Why Are There Prison Beds but Not Homes? Babies, Crime & Milwaukee Real Talk

Why can we keep prison beds available, but struggle to make sure everyone has a place to live? That question sparks one of the biggest conversations in this episode of Cold World. DVJ and Michelle talk about housing, homelessness, affordable apartments, neighborhood investment, and the idea that lack of stable housing can contribute to bigger community problems. They debate why empty housing can't be treated with the same long-term mindset as maintaining prison capacity—and what happens when communities continue to be viewed only through the lens of crime. Then the conversation takes an emotional turn as they discuss Wisconsin's Safe Haven law and newborn surrender, including how parents can legally and anonymously surrender an unharmed newborn at designated locations. The discussion looks at why these laws exist, the babies who are safely surrendered, and the tragic consequences when infants are abandoned in unsafe circumstances. From there, DVJ and Michelle get into Milwaukee, crime, neighborhood investment, politics, the upcoming Wisconsin governor's race, voting, Donald Trump, Snoop Dogg, media personalities, YouTube crime creators, and the kind of long-form conversations they actually enjoy listening to. There's also plenty of everyday Cold World: running errands, grabbing food, talking about Milwaukee businesses, coffee, pets, music, and whatever else comes up along the way. 😂 It's not just about crime. It's about asking what happens BEFORE the crime—and whether we're doing enough to address the conditions people are living in. 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle — real conversations, uncomfortable questions, no filter. #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #Milwaukee #MilwaukeePodcast #MilwaukeeWisconsin #Wisconsin #WisconsinPodcast #Housing #AffordableHousing #Homelessness #HousingCrisis #CriminalJustice #PrisonReform #Crime #MilwaukeeCrime #Community #NeighborhoodInvestment #SafeHaven #SafeHavenLaw #NewbornSafety #WisconsinSafeHaven #Parenting #SocialIssues #RealTalk #Unfiltered #NoFilter #Politics #WisconsinPolitics #SnoopDogg #DonaldTrump #Podcast #MilwaukeePodcasters #BlackPodcasters #PodcastLife

AI Could Go Rogue, Snoop Changed Sides & AOC Speaks

What happens when AI gets too good at doing exactly what we tell it to do? DVJ and Michelle dive into the growing conversation around AI safety, including some wild “AI doomsday” scenarios involving machines following instructions literally—with consequences humans never intended. They also talk about why people should question AI-generated information, double-check what they're told, and remember that humans are still responsible for how these systems are built and used. Then the conversation gets political. They watch and discuss a recent Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appearance at a “Students vs. Billionaires” town hall, including her comments about universities, student organizing, weapons manufacturers, corporate media, and unchecked power. And then comes the Snoop Dogg conversation. DVJ and Michelle revisit Snoop's past comments about artists supporting Donald Trump, his later participation in Trump-related events, and whether celebrities should be held accountable for positions they publicly took in the past. The bigger question becomes: Do people have standards, or do we forgive celebrities because they're celebrities? The episode also gets into truth-in-sentencing, Wisconsin prisons, ICE and immigration, the death penalty, AI surveillance technology, Milwaukee, Wisconsin's economy, SpaceX, sports, music, coffee, and plenty of the completely random conversations that make Cold World what it is. Some serious topics. Some uncomfortable questions. A lot of opinions. No script. No filter. Just DVJ & Michelle talking about what's happening in the world—and questioning what we're being told. 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #MilwaukeePodcast #Milwaukee #WisconsinPodcast #AOC #AlexandriaOcasioCortez #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AISafety #AIDoomsday #Technology #SnoopDogg #DonaldTrump #Politics #PoliticalTalk #CelebrityPolitics #RaceAndPolitics #CriminalJustice #TruthInSentencing #DeathPenalty #ICE #Immigration #PrisonReform #Surveillance #FacialRecognition #MilwaukeeWisconsin #Wisconsin #RealTalk #Unfiltered #NoFilter #Podcast #PodcastLife

Can America Elect a Latina Woman President? AOC, Race & Power

AOC said something that sparked a BIG conversation: Can a Latina woman actually win the presidency of the United States? In this episode, DVJ and Michelle break down the comments and the bigger question behind them. The conversation looks at the history of presidential elections, the lack of women presidents, Barack Obama’s place in American political history, and the experiences of candidates like Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. They also get into the role race may play in presidential elections, who makes up the voting population, and why having qualified women run for the highest office in the country hasn't yet resulted in a woman becoming president. But the conversation doesn't stop there. The episode also covers immigration and ICE, government spending and detention, media coverage, politics, race, and how Americans interpret what they're seeing and hearing from politicians and the news. As always, DVJ and Michelle aren't reading from a script or trying to make the conversation comfortable. They're asking the questions, challenging each other's perspectives, and saying what they really think. Could America elect a Latina woman president? And what does history tell us about that possibility? 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle — real conversations, no filter. #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #AOC #AlexandriaOcasioCortez #LatinaPresident #LatinaWomen #LatinaVoices #WomenInPolitics #WomenPresident #RaceAndPolitics #RaceInAmerica #AmericanPolitics #PresidentialPolitics #Voting #VotingRights #BlackVoices #LatinoVoices #KamalaHarris #HillaryClinton #BarackObama #ICE #Immigration #PoliticalTalk #PoliticsAndCulture #MilwaukeePodcast #Milwaukee #WisconsinPodcast #RealTalk #Unfiltered #NoFilter #Podcast

They Said It Out Loud: Race, Trump, Punishment & America

DVJ and Michelle start with a conversation about a DUI case, including the charges, license suspension, court costs, and the debate over how many consequences can come from one offense. That leads into a bigger conversation about punishment, parole, restitution, voting rights, and how the criminal justice system can continue affecting someone long after a sentence is over. From there, the conversation takes a sharp turn into race, politics, media, and America. They talk about Trump, CNN and political coverage, what politicians campaign on versus what people believe actually happens afterward, and why voters respond to political messaging the way they do. The conversation also touches on racism, representation, voting patterns, the presidency, and the question of who has historically had the power to shape American politics. And because this is Cold World, it doesn't stay serious the whole time. 😂 There's also plenty of sports talk, old-school sitcoms, Wisconsin Badgers, the Packers, Milwaukee, childhood memories, and random conversations that only DVJ and Michelle could turn into a podcast. No script. No polished talking points. Just two people saying what they think and letting the conversation go wherever it goes. 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #Milwaukee #MilwaukeePodcast #WisconsinPodcast #RaceInAmerica #RaceAndPolitics #AmericanPolitics #Trump #Politics #PoliticalTalk #Racism #Voting #CriminalJustice #CriminalJusticeReform #DUI #Parole #VotingRights #Media #MediaBias #CNN #Representation #BlackVoices #BlackPodcast #MilwaukeeLife #Wisconsin #RealTalk #Unfiltered #NoFilter #Podcast #PodcastLife #Packers #Badgers #OldSchoolTV

Who Gets to Tell Our Stories? Race, Media & Milwaukee Real Talk

This episode gets into a conversation about who gets to tell the story—and what stories keep getting told. DVJ and Michelle talk about race and representation in media, including a discussion of a major list ranking the best TV shows of the 21st century and the question of how Black and Latino voices are represented when other people are deciding what deserves recognition. From there, the conversation turns toward Milwaukee: neighborhood investment, schools, housing, economic opportunities, crime, and the way local media talks about violence and the people involved. Why does crime seem to dominate certain conversations? Is there room for more variety when talking about a community? And what happens when people hear the same negative stories over and over again? Of course, this is Cold World, so we don't stay serious the entire time. 😂 We get into the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Saturday morning coffee, podcasts, radio, music, everyday Milwaukee life, and plenty of completely random side conversations along the way. No script. No perfect answers. Just DVJ & Michelle having the conversation the way they actually have it. 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle — real life, real opinions, real conversations, no filter. #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #Milwaukee #MilwaukeePodcast #MilwaukeeWisconsin #BlackVoices #BlackCulture #LatinoVoices #RaceAndMedia #MediaRepresentation #RepresentationMatters #MilwaukeeCrime #CrimeAndMedia #LocalMedia #Community #UrbanAmerica #Neighborhoods #MilwaukeeLife #SocialIssues #RealTalk #Unfiltered #SocietyAndCulture #Podcast #PodcastLife #BlackPodcasters #MilwaukeePodcasters #WisconsinPodcast #Packers #Brewers #Bucks

Milwaukee Jobs, Workplace Discrimination & Real Talk

What does it look like when you really stop and look at where people are working in Milwaukee—and what opportunities are actually available? In this episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle, DVJ takes a deeper look at employment, business ownership, wages, and opportunities for Black workers in Milwaukee, leading into a conversation about reported workplace discrimination and harassment cases involving Black, Brown, Hispanic, and Native American employees in Wisconsin. The conversation gets real about racism in the workplace, retaliation, language and cultural identity, and why these issues matter beyond the people directly involved. And because this is Cold World, the conversation doesn't stay on one subject for long. We get into police accountability, Milwaukee street life, the Packers, apartment living, coffee, everyday frustrations, and a food-safety discussion sparked by concerns about recalled meat and expired products. No polished talking points. No pretending to have all the answers. Just DVJ & Michelle talking about what they're seeing, thinking, questioning, and experiencing. 🎙️ Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle — real conversations about real life, with no filter. #ColdWorld #DVJAndMichelle #Milwaukee #MilwaukeeWisconsin #MilwaukeePodcast #BlackMilwaukee #Wisconsin #WorkplaceDiscrimination #Racism #WorkplaceRacism #EqualOpportunity #SocialIssues #RealTalk #Unfiltered #BlackVoices #CommunityVoices #WisconsinPodcast #MilwaukeeLife #Packers #GreenBayPackers #FoodSafety #FoodRecall #EverydayLife #SocietyAndCulture #Podcast

The Bloody Third, Race, Culture & Milwaukee Real Talk

On this episode of Cold World w/ DVJ & Michelle, DVJ and Michelle take a deep dive into a part of Milwaukee history that many people may not know about—the infamous “Bloody Third.” They explore the history of Milwaukee's historic Third Ward, including the Irish immigrant community, the rise of the Third Ward Cowboys, political corruption, ballot-box stuffing, protection rackets, violence, and the events that eventually changed the neighborhood forever. The conversation also looks at how the history of gangs and criminal activity is remembered—and how racial stereotypes can influence the way people think about the word “gang” and who they associate with that label. From Milwaukee history, the conversation moves all over the place. DVJ talks about a dangerous adventure into the Congo Basin, the incredible wildlife found there, the predators and dangers of the rainforest, and why attempting to survive in one of the world's most challenging environments is definitely not for everybody. The episode also gets into race, missing children, media attention, racial disparities, immigration, culture, and current events, with DVJ and Michelle having the kind of honest conversations that don't always fit neatly into a category. They also talk about Spotify and why they believe there should be a stronger Society & Culture category for podcasts, especially for conversations covering Black and Brown communities, culture, identity, and everyday life. And of course, there's plenty of the usual Cold World sprinkled throughout—Packers football, Milwaukee, music, favorite artists, YouTubers, crime podcasts, coffee, everyday life, and plenty of unfiltered opinions. It's history. It's culture. It's race. It's Milwaukee. It's current events. It's music and sports. And it's two people having a conversation without trying to make everything sound polished. Real conversations. Real opinions. Real life.
