    Author NJ Rodman/Amara Rose - Fantasy & Dark Romance Author

    Summary: Author NJ Rodman writes fantasy romance as well as dark contemporary romance under the name Amara Rose. Listen as she gets cozy with the Book Babes to get into a great conversation about writing in multiple subgenres, the difference between fantasy romance and romantasy, and the joys of selling at in person events. She starts out sharing about her the two different genres she writes in and her current series’s under these pen names. NJ has the Oculus fantasy duet out, and Amara has the Love & Madness trilogy which is a dark contemporary trilogy based on the DC universe. She initially decided to keep the two subgenres separate as the Love & Madness books are much darker and more explicit than the Oculus series. But is considering where to take it from her with her next fantasy series which she is currently working on. NJ tells us about her next work in progress, the Muses of Medora series. She wanted to challenge herself with this epic high fantasy romance by building her own unique world from scratch and taking the romance at a slower pace. It centers around Sonnet who is a muse, so she is imbued with power from one of the nine wielders, the gods of this world. She can read the world's history through music and her power is like a mix between absorbing sound and using it and seeing auras. Nikki and Alby love this unique magical take and can’t wait for the series to come out.  Nikki and NJ originally met at Romance, Eh? 2025 and reconnected in 2026, so they chat about the importance of making connections in person. NJ tells us about how much she loves getting out and meeting readers in person, so she has done over 30 markets over the last year. For authors new to signing events she recommends just getting out there and applying. And if you’re not comfortable with a bigger event, start with a smaller one first. NJ’s trope for life is morally grey characters because she loves a good redemption arc.     Author Brittany Arreguin - Sports Romance

    Summary: Sports Romance author Brittany Arreguin chats with the Book Babes about writing about sports she’s interested in, adding a hint of nerdiness, and the importance of diversity in sports romance books. She starts off telling us a little bit about the sports she has currently written including hockey, baseball, golf and esports. And she shares her research methods before delving into a story. Brittany says she doesn’t really think you can get to know a sport well without diving into the popular culture and current events of it. So, she researches by watching sports, listening to podcasts, following the social media updates and learning about statistics. This gives her an immersive view of the sport before she dives in. Brittany gets into her background with gaming and how it led to her writing esports into her hockey romance book. She says she doesn’t consider herself a gamer, but that’s only because her brother was a former competitive gamer so her bar is a little different than most. She does enjoy cozy games, roguelike games, and simulation games. She also shares a little about the Mahjong community and how she’s recently gotten involved in that. She’s even written about it in a short story that you may be able to read soon if you follow her. But Brittany didn’t start off in sports romance. Her first book was a romantic suspense that takes place in Vegas and features a female main character who is an underground poker player. But her love of sports did lead her into writing sports romance and she plans on staying in the subgenre for a while. Although she does have some ideas fermenting and you may see a paranormal x sports crossover eventually. Brittany’s trope for life is Forbidden Romance. Because who doesn’t love a good coach’s daughter or workplace romance? Her question for listeners is: What underrepresented sport would you like to see in a sports romance book? It could be one you love to watch or have participated in, but it has to be something that hasn’t been represented a lot already.     Author CW Rose - Romantasy

    Summary: Fantasy Romance author CW Rose chats with the Book Babes about writing merfolk romance, her early love of fantasy romance before it was a thing, and some future projects she’s working on that include Chinese mythology. First we learn about her Oceansong duet Ocean Song and Midnight Song. She describes it as an Asian Romeo meets Juliet meets The Little Mermaid set in the grittiness of the real world. She shares how it was inspired by her love of the water and fascination with the ocean and the possibility of mermaids. Christine tells us about her love of folklore and mythology and how that leads into the next book she’s currently querying. It features shapeshifting demons, shamans, Fu dogs, and the Chinese versions of dragons and vampires. It’s got a shaman FMC who was trained to hunt demons, but when she has to team up with one to find her brother, they find themselves falling for each other which puts a target on them. It sounds fantastic and the Book Babes can’t wait to see where it goes. We also learn about a plotting and drafting method called quilting where scenes pop into Christine’s head and she writes them all in her phone notes. Then she has to piece the story together out of all these snippets. Christine’s trope for life is Forbidden Romance. As long as it has a happy ending. Her question for listeners is:my question for readers is how do you decide what you want to read next? Do you go through your TBR in order? Do you go based on how many ARCs you have, or are you just a mood reader? And also what do you do if you are a mood reader and you're reading a book and you realize it doesn't hit the way you want it to for any reason, do you DNF or do you push through?     Author Jessica Ferguson - Sci Fi Romance

    Summary: Sci Fi romance author Jessica Ferguson goes Backstage with the Book Babes for a fantastic conversation about balancing sci fi and romance elements, cultural influences in a futuristic world, and what she learned from attending her first in person book signing events.. Jessica starts out telling us about her sci fi romance series Cosmic Cupid. It follows a group of siblings discovering love in a futuristic world. She tells us about the evolution of the first book in the series from a contemporary romance to a sci fi romance. And how after multiple drafts it was an author friend who helped her figure out she needed to put the sci fi twist on it. She tells us about how she moved from writing YA Fantasy to steamy romance and how her spice level has evolved since her first romance book. We also get into the ways characters, plot, and tropes can influence the spice levels in books. Jessica also shares how her culture has influenced her writing even in a futuristic setting. She strives to make her characters relatable and one of the ways she does this is tapping into her own lived experience and cultural expectations. As well as dealing with heavier issues like grief. We talk about Jessica’s first book event Word on the Street in Toronto. And she shares some advice she took away as an author attending her first events. Nikki is looking forward to meeting her in person at a live event since they’re both in Ontario.     Author Allie Lasky - Sports Romance

    Summary: Sports Romance Author Allie Lasky goes Backstage with the Book Babes for a fantastic conversation about neurodivergent and disability rep in sports romance, her journey to sports fandom, and making live events a major part of her author business. Allie starts off telling us about her sports romance books and how she incorporates neurodivergent characters and disability rep into all her books. And while she loves to write hockey romance, she also includes other sports including women’s rugby, men’s gymnastics, softball, track and field, soccer, swimming, and baseball. She also gives us an exclusive announcement about her next series. The Atlanta Tigers hockey journey will begin spring of 2027. Of course we had to get into all the current and upcoming sport romance TV adaptations like Heated Rivalry and Off Campus. So we asked Allie which of her books would be the first she’d love to see adapted. She’d really love to see a two part series featuring both Game Misconduct and Tripped Up. Allie makes live events a large part of her author business and had originally scheduled 53 events for 2026. Alby and Nikki are jealous and a little tired thinking about doing this many events, but it was great hearing about her strategies and how this works for her.     Author Hailey Klier Decker - Rockstar Romance

    Summary: Rockstar Romance author Hailey Klier Decker gets cozy with the Book Babes to chat about rockstars meeting regular people, finding the perfect writing spot, and balancing her day job at a winery with her author life. First we learn about her inspiration for the first book in her When the Lights Go Down series, Pretty When it Burns. She tells us about attending her first concert at 13. This was an intimate bar setting rather than a large stadium and it really got her thinking about what it would be like if a rockstar fell for a regular person. This was the original seed for her story that evolved quite a bit over the years. Hailey talks about her winery job in Texas and how living in a small town affects where she can get writing done. Writing at home doesn’t work so well for her, so she likes to get out, but things get complicated living in a small town where people stop to chat wherever you go. So she found another winery a little farther out with a great atmosphere and a supportive owner and this has become her unofficial office. Because otherwise she’s just getting drunk and getting no work done. Since she works weekends at her winery job it can be hard to get to book signing events but she did recently get to experience a very unique book signing experience. A visiting customer found out about her books and read one with her book club. Which led to an invite to travel to California for an intimate book club chat and Q&A. Which sounds like an absolutely amazing time. Hailey’s trope for life is Brother’s Best Friend. She loves the secrets and forbidden aspects of it. Her question for listeners is: What would you like to see from her down the line? Would you want to see more rock star romances or perhaps her whitewater rafting romance?     Author Ally Bloom - Romantic Suspense

    Summary: Romantic Suspense author Ally Bloom goes Backstage with the Book Babes to talk about publishing her debut romance book, her experience with traditional publishing, and learning the ropes of indie publishing for her next release. Ally tells us all about her debut romantic suspense novel Love Struck. She shares how it’s loosely based on the TV show Dead to Me and how she put a lot of her own personal experiences as well as lots of research into the medical and legal aspects. She also spills the two on her next release, Lost in London, which is the first book in the Love & Wanderlust series. It’s a departure from her romantic suspense but she’s really excited to share it with everyone. She tells us that she’s a major plotter and needs a solid outline when she’s writing or she can’t finish the story. As for naming her characters? She might have the names pop into her head, but usually she likes to figure out some of the characteristics of them and then do some research to find the perfect names. Ally considers herself to be a hybrid author and shares with us her journey to find a publisher for her first book. She’s currently working on a second book for her publisher while also working on her first indie release. We talk about the pros and cons of indie versus trad publishing and she lets us know her reasons for going indie with her next series. Ally’s trope for life is Rivals to Lovers.     Summary: Sports Romance author CL Rose goes Backstage with the Book Babes to chat about her love of football and baseball, experiences in sports communication, and her unique journey to a trad publishing deal. CL starts out sharing some information about her three current series: the Boston Blizzard, Daytona Fury, and Rock City Renegades. Her books feature football and baseball and all take place in the same shared world, which we love. She also has some volleyball and dance featured. She shares about her nontraditional route to a traditional publishing deal. When she initially reached out to agents, she was looking only for sub rights deals including translations and audiobooks. This led to a deal with Beck Literary agency and an eventual deal for a new book in a new series. We love hearing about different authors routes to publishing deals. But she still loves indie publishing and intends to continue as a hybrid author. She also tells us about how her table setup for signing events has evolved over time. Like the book babes she’s always learning new things from other authors and making tweaks to her setup. Alby met her at Pages of Glass and loved her backdrop which is getting updated to include her new series teams for 2027. CL’s trope for life is Fake Dating.
