    October 14 | Resistance Training

Today's reading from Isaiah 43–44 and 1 Thessalonians 2 invites us to consider how resistance, suffering, and difficult experiences affect our relationship with God. Both passages remind us that spiritual maturity grows over time as we learn to recognize God's presence and trust His faithfulness, even when life brings unexpected circumstances. In Isaiah 43–44, God reminds Israel that they belong to Him and that His faithfulness isn't dependent on their circumstances. He promises to remain with them through the waters and the fire, calling them to remember who they are as His people. Their identity is rooted in His redeeming love, and their obedience grows as they remember His promises and return to Him through life's changing seasons. In 1 Thessalonians 2, Paul reflects on the suffering and opposition he experienced while proclaiming the gospel. Despite being mistreated in Philippi and facing further resistance in Thessalonica, he continued his ministry with courage from God. His response reveals a growing dependence on God's strength and a commitment to remain faithful to his calling, without letting opposition shape his character or direction. Together, these passages invite us to reflect on the resistance we've encountered throughout our lives and how those experiences have shaped our faith. They remind us that difficulties don't automatically produce spiritual growth, but that learning to depend on God's presence through them can gradually form a deeper trust, greater awareness, and a more settled confidence in His faithfulness.
