5 Warnings From Hebrews (And What They Actually Mean)

The book of Hebrews doesn't whisper its warnings, it shouts them. Five times, the writer stops mid-argument and looks his readers in the eye with an urgent message: pay attention, or you may not finish the race. In this episode, I walk through all five warning passages in Hebrews, verse by verse, and unpack what the writer is actually saying to people who assumed they were safe. We cover: - The Drifter (Hebrews 2:1-4): why neglect is more dangerous than outright rejection - The Staller (Hebrews 5:11-6:12): what it means to be stuck in spiritual infancy - The Hardener (Hebrews 3:7-19): how a hardened heart forms one "not today" at a time - The Deliberate Sinner (Hebrews 10:26-31): what "deliberate sin" does and doesn't mean - The Despiser (Hebrews 12:14-29): why Esau's tears were regret, not repentance I close with the GRACE framework, a simple way to respond to these warnings without fear. This episode is part of a series connected to my new book, Jesus: Mediator and Chief, a study of the book of Hebrews and why Jesus is better than angels, better than Moses, better than the old covenant, able to save completely those who come to God through Him. Why God Exposes What You're Hiding (And Why That's Good News) | Ep. 15

Why God Exposes What You're Hiding (And Why That's Good News) Most of us — especially leaders — spend our lives running from exposure. We curate. We manage. We present the version of ourselves we want people to see. And the moment something threatens to reveal what's underneath, we panic. But here's the truth nobody told you: when God exposes something in your life, He's not trying to humiliate you. He's trying to heal you. A surgeon doesn't open you up to punish you — he opens you up because something inside you, left alone, will hurt you. In this episode, Steve unpacks three biblical truths about exposure: David and Nathan (2 Samuel 12) — how God exposes to heal, not humiliate Adam and Eve, and the woman at the well (John 4) — why what you hide has power over you Saul and David — why leaders who refuse exposure become dangerous Steve closes with LIGHT, a simple five-step framework for walking this out: Let God search your heart. Invite trusted voices to speak into your life. Give yourself grace. Hold onto the truth that exposure is love. Turn and walk differently. If you've ever felt like God was putting you on blast for something you'd rather keep hidden, this conversation will change how you see it. Dear Leader, this generation doesn't need louder voices. It needs wiser ones. New episodes of Dear Leader release weekly, exploring leadership, faith, integrity, and influence in a distracted, digital world.

Your Race Is Already Won (The World Cup Can't Teach You This)

80,000 people are screaming in a stadium. Nations are praying. Grown men are weeping. All over a ball. Here is what nobody in that stadium is saying: the race that matters most is already won. The World Cup has captains. They wear the armband, absorb the pressure, lift the trophy. But there is a Captain who did something no World Cup captain has ever done. He ran the race you could not run, finished it perfectly, and sat down. And from that seat, Hebrews 7:25 says he always lives to make intercession for you. In this bonus episode of Dear Leader, Pastor Steve Messam walks through three truths from Hebrews 12 that the World Cup illustrates but cannot deliver. Truth 1: You are already in the race. The only question is whether you are running well or drifting sideways. Truth 2: You do not run alone. The cloud of witnesses is not filled with fans. It is filled with finishers. Truth 3: Your Captain already won. You run from victory, not for it. Practical framework: R.U.N. R — Release the weight U — Unite with the witnesses N — Narrow your eyes on Jesus Dear Leader is a space for leaders who want to grow in wisdom, integrity, and influence, especially when the world around us is loud and faith is being tested. Pastor Steve Messam is the author of Jesus: Mediator and Chief: Discovering the Superior Christ in the Book of Hebrews, releasing August 25, 2026.
