Employee Burnout Isn’t Loyalty: Why Boundaries Create Better Leaders & Workplace Culture

What if your best employee isn’t the person willing to sacrifice everything for the job? We’ve spent decades rewarding overwork and calling it loyalty: unused sick time, endless overtime, longevity pay, answering after hours, and being the employee who never says no. But eventually, something gives — performance, engagement, retention, or the employee’s mental and physical health. In this episode of Hustle Rebels, Renae Mansfield breaks down three reasons why employees who put themselves first can actually be better for an organization. We’re talking about why healthy boundaries can prevent burnout, why great managers don’t automatically become great leaders or mentors, and why there’s a huge difference between an employee who feels trapped in a job and one who genuinely chooses to stay. Because creating a great workplace culture isn’t about figuring out how to squeeze more out of your people. It’s about creating an environment where good people actually want to show up, stay, lead, and give a shit. Why Conflict Feels So Draining: People-Pleasing, Triggers & Your Nervous System

Why can one difficult person put your nervous system on high alert before they’ve even said a word? This week, an ongoing feud at my Walgreens pharmacy — involving Adderall, a very humbling realization that I was actually wrong, and what I’m calling Operation Dunkin’ Peace Treaty — made me realize how much energy we waste anticipating conflict. We’re talking about emotional triggers, nervous system regulation, people-pleasing, apologizing without abandoning yourself, and the difference between protecting yourself and simply expecting the worst from someone. Because you don’t have to like someone. You don’t need them to like you. And you definitely don’t need to abandon your boundaries. But sometimes you do need to ask: Am I protecting myself… or am I contributing to a pattern I don’t even want anymore? If you’re burned out from carrying tension, managing other people’s reactions, or constantly feeling on guard, this episode of The Weekly Recharge is for you. How to Overcome Burnout Without Waiting for Motivation | Robyn Godfrey

Feeling burned out, overwhelmed, or stuck waiting for motivation to magically appear? Bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and running coach Robyn Godfrey shares how running for just 30 seconds at age 47 changed the direction of her life—and eventually led her to complete all six World Marathon Majors. We talk about the difference between pursuing a goal that matters to you and sacrificing yourself for a system that doesn’t value you, why motivation is unreliable, and how small, consistent actions rebuild momentum and self-trust. Robyn also opens up about leaving corporate sales, navigating her husband’s stage-four cancer diagnosis, caring for yourself as a caregiver, overcoming fear and imposter syndrome, and pursuing new goals in midlife. If you’re trying to recover from burnout, make a career or identity change, or finally start the thing you keep postponing, begin with the next 30 seconds. Why You Struggle to Ask for Help: The High-Achiever Trap of Doing Everything Alone

Why do some of us insist on doing everything the hard way — and then get pissed that everything is so damn hard? That realization hit me while cleaning my toilet bare-handed, with a bandaged finger, while an entire box of gloves sat two feet away. In this episode of The Weekly Recharge, I unpack how hyper-independence, high achievement, and burnout can make asking for help feel harder than just doing everything yourself — and how I’ve mistaken not letting people help me for not having support. Sometimes you don’t need to become stronger or more capable. Sometimes you just need to put the damn gloves on. When Hard Work Stops Working: Burnout and the Need to Prove Yourself

When does perseverance stop being a strength and start becoming self-abandonment? For high achievers, working harder often starts as a successful survival strategy. It earns recognition, proves people wrong, and creates opportunities. But inside hustle culture and dysfunctional workplaces, that same drive can trap you in chronic overworking—constantly giving more to systems that keep taking without giving anything meaningful back. In this solo episode of Hustle Rebels, Renae Mansfield explores how her need to prove herself began as the overweight girl fighting for a starting position on her varsity softball team—and followed her into becoming the first and only woman in her fire department. You’ll hear why competence gets rewarded with more work, how perseverance becomes tied to identity and self-worth, and the critical difference between effort that builds you and effort that slowly erases you. The goal isn’t to become less driven. It’s to stop spending your drive on people, workplaces, and systems that consume you without taking you anywhere. The “I’ll Slow Down Later” Trap: Why Burnout Keeps Following You

Why does September suddenly feel like someone flipped the switch from “enjoy your life” to “get your shit together”? Even if you don’t have kids going back to school, fall can bring a noticeable shift: busier schedules, more commitments, less downtime, and that familiar feeling that you need to brace for everything coming next. In this Weekly Recharge episode of Hustle Rebels, I’m breaking down why your nervous system responds when demand increases and recovery disappears, how we accidentally recreate the same burnout patterns we swear we want to escape, and why waiting for life to “settle down” usually keeps us stuck in the same cycle. Plus, this week’s practice is simple: instead of adding another habit, routine, or self-care assignment, choose one thing you gave yourself permission to enjoy this summer — and refuse to automatically give it back just because the calendar says September. If you’re an overachiever who’s tired of being constantly busy, overwhelmed, and waiting for some future version of life where you finally get to slow down, this episode is for you. Why Success Still Feels Empty: Women, Burnout and Self-Worth with Roberta Ravella

What happens when you finally build the successful life you worked for — but still don’t feel fulfilled? Roberta Ravella spent years believing that success had to be earned through hard work, sacrifice, and proving herself. But even after creating the career, income, independence, and relationship she thought would make everything feel better, something was still missing. In this Toolbox episode of Hustle Rebels, Roberta joins Renae to unpack why so many ambitious women tie their worth to achievement, manage everyone else’s emotions, and struggle to believe success can come without suffering. They discuss: Why women are conditioned to prove their worthThe invisible emotional labor contributing to burnoutWhy receiving support can feel unsafeThe difference between intuition and protective self-talkHow repeated emotional stories keep us stuckWhy success doesn’t have to require self-sacrificeRoberta also walks Renae through her Ease and Flow Framework, a practical process for identifying the habits, beliefs, and deeper programming making a goal feel harder than it needs to be. How to Trust Your Intuition Again and Stop Second-Guessing Yourself

Have you lost touch with your intuition — or have you simply been trained not to trust it? After a golf course detour, a runaway golf cart, and a delayed flight, Renae noticed the same pattern repeating: every time she trusted someone else’s “faster” route over her own instincts, she ended up farther from where she was trying to go. In this Weekly Recharge episode of Hustle Rebels, we explore why overachievers often second-guess themselves, look outside themselves for the right answer, and mistake someone else’s confidence, connections, or certainty for a better direction. You’ll hear about: Why we stop trusting our intuitionThe connection between self-doubt and second-guessingWhy shortcuts and outside approval can pull us away from ourselvesWhat Brainspotting reveals about our discomfort with self-trustHow to accept support without abandoning your own directionBecause the right people can support you and open doors — but they can’t replace your intuition, talent, or value.
