Ep 25: Hypermasculinity, Ego, and Men's Health

This week, Dr. Eboni Haynes and Dr. Tynisha Camae Drennon are joined by special guest Akil Bektemba, founder and CEO of Vanguard Consulting Group, LLC. In this heavy-hitting episode, we tackle the tragic hazing death of 18-year-old Savannah Jones at Wilberforce University and discuss the urgent need for campus accountability. We also celebrate National Crown Day (July 3rd) and discuss the ongoing fight against hair discrimination via the CROWN Act. For our main topic, Akil gives us an honest, firsthand look into the intersection of hypermasculinity, ego, and men's health. We break down the real reasons Black men avoid the doctor - from medical mistrust to the pressure of playing "Superman" - and Akil shares the wake-up call that led to his emergency gallbladder removal. Plus, he gives the ladies some invaluable advice on how to encourage the men in our lives to prioritize their well-being. Finally, we sip on some "Herbal Tea": Was Oprah Winfrey out of line for sharing a sensitive story about the late Whitney Houston? And how is Tia Mowry using neuroplasticity and manifestation to find safe, healthy love post-divorce? Ep 23: From Courtroom Injustices to Bedroom Truths: The Carmelo Anthony trial, Tracee Ellis Ross's marriage proposal, and the oral sex conversation we all need to have

Hey fam! Welcome back to Life More Abundantly, where we talk Black health like we talk everything else - real, out loud, and with love. This week, Dr. Eboni and Dr. T unpack a heavy news cycle before lightening things up with some necessary bedroom talk. We start by examining the tragic and controversial Carmelo Anthony trial out of Frisco, Texas, and the Cyrus Carmack Belton case in South Carolina, diving deep into the realities of self-defense laws, adultification of Black youth, and the weight of "premeditated fear" in our communities. In Black History, we celebrate the trailblazing legacy of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court Justice, and his lasting impact on public health and civil rights. For the Community Calendar, we are pulling inspiration from Ebony to discuss the myths, realities, and health facts of oral sex. From hygiene and STI prevention to the danger of treating porn like real life, we’re having the awkward (but necessary) conversations. Finally, we sip on some Herbal Tea as we debate Tracee Ellis Ross’s idea that marriage licenses should expire every five years and A$AP Rocky’s unexpected stage attire. Ep 22: From Unsettling Noises to Unsettling Symptoms: Courtroom tea, Angela Davis' legacy, and the Fibroids Conversaiton We All Should Have Had Sooner

Whew, fam — Episode 22 is a whole ride. Drs. Eboni Haynes and Tynisha Camae Drennon kick things off with some courtroom tea out of Georgia: a federal judge under investigation for serious ethical misconduct, and what it means when the people responsible for enforcing the rules are the ones breaking them. We talk power, workplace harm, and why “private reprimand” doesn’t feel very private when the whole internet knows. Then we shift into This Week in Black History with the story of Dr. Angela Davis and her 1972 acquittal — and why it still matters right now. We connect the dots between justice, trust, and health, and get real about why showing up (yes, including jury duty and local elections) is part of protecting our communities. And because we love you for real, we spend time on a topic that hits home for so many: uterine fibroids. We break down what fibroids are, common symptoms people ignore for way too long (heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, anemia, back pain, “mystery” belly weight), and the questions you should be asking at your next visit. We also talk treatment options beyond “just get a hysterectomy,” the importance of second opinions, and why you deserve a doctor who listens — period. Finally, in our Herbal Tea segment, we recap Ray J’s post-fight hospital visit and use it as a reminder: if your body is waving red flags, it’s not the time to prove a point. Sit down, hydrate, and take your health seriously. If this episode helped you, share it with somebody you love — and don’t forget to subscribe so you never miss a week. Enjoy life… and life more abundantly. Cheers.

Ep 19: Grounded: Airlines, Access & the Black Tax

Episode 19 is LOADED! We're kicking things off with the shocking overnight shutdown of Spirit Airlines. No warning. No notice. Just… grounded. Drs. Eboni & Tynisha break down what the failed Trump administration bailout really means, the 17,000+ jobs lost, and why losing the country's most affordable airline isn't just an inconvenience — it's a calculated blow to Black and Brown mobility. We're talking economic impact, class warfare, and what it means when an entire community loses access to affordable travel. Then we pivot to the Met Gala, where $100K tickets and Jeff Bezos' controversial co-chair role sparked celebrity boycotts and a counter-protest called "Labor is Art." We unpack who showed up, who stayed home, and why protesting billionaire opulence while still shopping on Amazon is… complicated. This Week in Black History brings us two icons: the legendary Stevie Wonder, born May 13, 1950 — 25 Grammys, a federal holiday champion, and the man behind every birthday song you've ever sung. Plus, we spotlight Camilla Williams, the first Black woman to sign a contract with a major U.S. opera company, who also sang the Star-Spangled Banner at the March on Washington before Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. For our Community Calendar, we're raising awareness about the lupus health crisis in the Black community. Black Americans are 3x more likely to develop lupus, and it's a top 10 cause of death for Black women aged 15–44. The hosts share practical tips: document your symptoms, advocate for yourself, ask for a rheumatologist referral, and never let anyone dismiss your pain. And in The Herbal Tea — oh, we're pouring today: Nick Cannon admits to having a double standard with his 15-year-old twins — his son Moroccan can date, but his daughter Monroe can't. We dig into why policing girls while giving boys free reign perpetuates harmful cycles, the importance of open conversations about sex and relationships, and why fear tactics from parents do more harm than good. Also, Reginae Carter, Lil Wayne's daughter, was rejected by multiple elite Atlanta private schools because of her father's explicit lyrics. We break down the "Black tax," the "celebrity tax," and why white-dominated institutions still gatekeep access — even when the money is there. Plus, what it means for us to build and invest in our own institutions. This one hits different. Tune in, share it with someone you love, and don't forget to subscribe so you never miss an episode. 📩 Got thoughts?
