    Ep. 40 The Judgement - Genesis 19 - 11/01/26

What happens when God's judgment meets human depravity? And what does the story of Lot reveal about the danger of compromising with the world? In Genesis 19, we encounter one of the most disturbing accounts in the Bible. The wickedness of Sodom is exposed, Lot's compromises become increasingly apparent, and God's judgment falls upon the city. Yet woven throughout this account is another important theme: the mercy of God toward undeserving people. This passage challenges us to look beyond the obvious sins of others and examine our own hearts. Lot's story reminds us how easily we can become influenced by the world around us rather than influencing it with the goodness and truth of God.*In this message, we explore three themes:* Sodom's depravity and the seriousness of human sin.Lot's compromise and the danger of being shaped by the world.God's mercy and the grace he extends to undeserving people. It's easy to point fingers at Sodom and feel righteous. But Lot shows us how quickly quiet compromise can turn into a broken life.Don't conform to the world around you. Live with distinct, courageous, God-fearing influence. And where you've drifted, remember that God's grace meets us in our need.*Scripture:* Genesis 19*Series:* The Promise: The Story of AbrahamLearn more about Rise Church: https://risechurchdyer.comService from Rise Church in Dyer, IndianaSermon preached by Pastor Josh Benner Link to full service video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7VorfWeAY

    Ep. 39 The Host - Genisis 18 - 10/25/29

Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord? | Hospitality, Faith & God’s Promises | Genesis 18What does biblical hospitality look like, and what does it reveal about the character of God?In Genesis 18, Abraham welcomes three unexpected visitors and offers them a feast. Through this encounter, God reaffirms His promise that Sarah will have a son, even when the promise seems impossible. The chapter then turns to a sobering conversation about the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah, as Abraham pleads with the Lord to show mercy. In this sermon from our series The Promise: The Story of Abraham, we explore three scenes from Genesis 18: a feast, a laugh, and a conversation. Along the way, we discover that hospitality is more than entertaining guests or opening our homes. It reflects the goodness of God, who provides for His people and calls them to extend that same care to others. We also consider the power of God’s promises, the question “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”, and Abraham’s humble appeal for mercy on behalf of others. Ultimately, this passage points us toward the greater hope of the gospel: Jesus Christ, who not only intercedes for sinners but gives Himself to bear the penalty of our sin.In this sermon, we’ll explore:Abraham’s example of biblical hospitality and generosity.Sarah’s laughter and God’s faithfulness to His promises. Why nothing is too hard for the Lord.Abraham’s intercession for Sodom and the relationship between justice and mercy. How the hospitality we receive from God should shape the way we treat others.A question to consider: What is one way you can practice hospitality that pushes you beyond your comfort zone?If this message encourages you, consider liking the video, subscribing to the channel, and sharing it with someone who would benefit from it.#Genesis18 #BiblicalHospitality #Abraham #BibleSermon #Christianity #ExpositoryPreachingService from Rise Church in Dyer, IndianaSermon preached by Pastor Josh Benner

    Ep. 37 The Affliction - Genesis 16 - 10/11/26

People are complicated. Even when we want something good, our pursuit of it can lead us to make unwise decisions, hurt others, and take matters into our own hands. In **Genesis 16**, Sarai and Abram try to secure God’s promise of a son through their own plans. Their decisions create conflict and suffering, and Hagar—the Egyptian servant caught in the middle—is mistreated and driven into the wilderness. But there, Hagar encounters the God who sees her. This passage challenges us to consider how we make decisions, whether our goals are taking priority over obedience to God, and how easily we can treat people as obstacles or means to an end. It also reminds us that no one is invisible to God. He sees the brokenhearted, cares for those the world overlooks, and remains at work even when he seems silent.**In this sermon on Genesis 16, we explore three people and three lessons:**- **Sarai:** The danger of taking God’s promises into our own hands.- **Abram:** The failure to lead faithfully when courage and responsibility are needed.- **Hagar:** The comfort of knowing that we are seen and cared for by God.How can we pursue good things without compromising what is right? How do we choose grace over self-righteousness, and reconciliation over simply winning? Genesis 16 reminds us to begin with what honors God and loves our neighbor—not merely with what we want to accomplish.Sermon from Rise Church in Dyer, Indiana. Message preached by Pastor Josh Benner.
