The Year of Fixing Things: Survival Mode, Blatant Boundaries, & The Functional Freeze Trap

I’m back. After a much-needed three-week hiatus to tend to my own breaking point, I wanted to sit down at the mic and give you a raw, completely unfiltered look at what’s been happening behind the scenes. 2026 has officially become my "Year of Fixing Things"—and let’s be honest, ripping off the band-aids hurts like hell. In this episode, I’m opening up about the physical toll of chronic trauma, navigating a season of completely relearning my marriage with Sean after 18 years together, and the fierce, protective rage of watching toxic family members blatantly disregard boundaries and target my daughter on her 15th birthday. We are also diving deep into the clinical and somatic reality of Functional Freeze. If you’ve been cooking the meals, driving the carpool, and checking off the boxes, but inside you feel entirely numb, hollow, and locked away—this is for you. We discuss why your brain doesn't have the password to think your way out of it, and how to actually begin thawing out. Finally, we talk about the brutal reality of summer break sensory overload, morning rage, and the profound grief of keeping our deepest creative passions on the backburner. Grab your coffee, light a candle, and welcome back to the rebellion. In This Episode, We Cover:  ** The Reality of the Breakdown:** Panic attacks, autoimmune testing, upcoming surgeries, and why 2026 is the year I stop putting myself last.  ** Relearning Love:** How trauma changes us down to our bones, and how a healthy marriage survives the friction of evolution.  ** Protecting the Lineage:** The anger and grief of a boundary breach, navigating a teenager’s hurt, and putting a stop to generational sweeping-under-the-rug.  ** Rebel Radio Updates:** Opening up the mic to professionals, and the hyper-fixation (and exhaustion) of stepping into the local HOA newsletter.  ** The Anatomy of Functional Freeze:** The Polyvagal science behind physiological lockdown, what actually helps your body thaw out, and what traps to avoid.  ** The Grief of Forgotten Passions:** A sneak peek into my upcoming conversation with "Mourning House" regarding the heavy grief of putting our creative dreams on the backburner.  ** Summer Survival & Morning Rage:** Why we wake up irritated, saying the quiet part out loud about 24/7 mothering, and how to micro-regulate through the chaos. I Can’t Fix the World… But I Can Come Back to Myself

There’s so much happening in the world right now… And somehow, we’re still expected to function. To parent. To regulate. To hold it all together…while everything feels like it’s spinning just a little too fast. In this episode, I’m talking about what it actually feels like to live in that space, the hyper-awareness, the spiraling thoughts, the dissociation, and the constant pull to stay “ready” for something that hasn’t even happened. If you’ve ever felt like your brain runs too far into the “what if”…or like you can’t fully relax because something always feels off… this episode is for you. This isn’t about fixing the world. This is about learning how to come back to yourself inside of it. Hypervigilance in a constantly overstimulating worldDissociation vs. maladaptive daydreamingWhy your nervous system doesn’t separate past trauma from present stressWhat it actually looks like to “come back” when you start spiralingSimple, real-life ways to ground yourself when you can’t just “take a break”“Some thoughts aren’t meant to be explored… they’re meant to be exited.”“I don’t have to carry the whole world to be a good person.”“The world might not slow down… but I’m allowed to.”If you’re in that in-between space, not who you were, but not fully who you’re becoming yet… This is where we do the work together. Grief in Breaking Generational Cycles

Breaking generational cycles is often talked about as empowerment. But what people don’t talk about enough is the grief that comes with it. In this episode, we explore the emotional layers that appear when truth finally comes into the light — the anger, the silence, the unanswered questions, and the grief that follows when family systems fracture. We talk about: • why survivors often stay silent for years• the impact of family silence and bystander behavior• the grief of seeing healthy family relationships you didn’t experience• sibling grief and different childhood experiences within the same family• navigating motherhood while processing your own trauma• the nervous system effects of long-term survival mode• learning to feel grief instead of burying it This conversation is deeply personal and also incredibly common for many cycle breakers navigating healing. This episode contains discussion of childhood trauma, family abuse, and sexual abuse.Listener discretion is advised. The goal of this conversation is not to retraumatize, but to shed light on the grief many survivors carry while healing. This episode is supported by Hemlock & Hearth.
