Ep 10- Not on the Same Page at First: A Couple’s First Homebirth Story

What happens when one partner is excited about homebirth… and the other isn’t quite there yet? In this episode of My Black Homebirth Podcast, I’m joined by Jasmine and her husband Manny as they share the story of preparing for their very first homebirth together. Like many families, they didn’t start their pregnancy journey on the same page about birth—but through research, conversation, and support, their confidence grew as they moved toward welcoming their daughter at home. Jasmine shares what led her to begin exploring birth options outside the hospital system, while Manny opens up about what it was like navigating his expectations of birth as a first-time father and learning to trust a different path than the one he originally imagined. Together, they walk us through what helped them feel prepared, supported, and empowered as first-time homebirth parents—and what it meant to welcome their baby girl into a peaceful environment surrounded by intentional care. In this episode, we talk about: ✨ Choosing homebirth as first-time parents ✨ Navigating different comfort levels between partners ✨ How research and education shaped their decisions ✨ A father’s perspective on preparing for homebirth ✨ Letting go of hospital expectations around birth ✨ Welcoming their daughter in a calm, supportive home environment If you’re considering homebirth, supporting a partner who is exploring their options, or simply curious what preparation looks like outside the hospital system, this conversation will leave you feeling encouraged and informed. Why Black Maternal Health Week Matters (and Why I Started This Podcast)

This week is Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17), and instead of sharing a birth story like usual, I wanted to dedicate this episode to something deeply personal — why I started My Black Homebirth Podcast and why this work matters. In this solo episode, I talk about: ✨ What Black Maternal Health Week is ✨ Why birth storytelling matters for Black families ✨ The maternal health crisis affecting Black mothers in the U.S. ✨ Infant mortality disparities ✨ The reality of birth access in Georgia ✨ Why supporting midwives and community birth workers is so important Black women in the United States are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, and many of these deaths are preventable. This episode is about awareness, advocacy, and reminding Black families that our birth stories deserve space, support, and visibility. My hope is that this conversation encourages you to: ✔ learn your birth options ✔ support midwives ✔ share your birth story ✔ advocate locally ✔ and listen intentionally during Black Maternal Health Week Your voice matters. Your experience matters. Your birth story matters too. 🎙 Want to share your birth story on the podcast? When Home Birth Plans Changed: Kai’s Preeclampsia Pivot and Empowered Induction Story

Kai planned a peaceful home birth surrounded by her trusted birth team, affirmations, and intention. But when late-stage preeclampsia entered the picture, everything changed. In this episode of My Black Home Birth, Kai shares her powerful story of preparing for a home birth as a first-time mom, navigating unexpected medical concerns, and ultimately pivoting to a hospital induction—all while staying grounded in support, advocacy, and trust in her body. Together, we talk about what it means to hold onto your voice when birth takes a different path than expected, the importance of having the right people around you during vulnerable moments, and how a supported pivot can still be a positive birth experience. Kai’s story is a reminder that birth isn’t defined by location—it’s shaped by care, connection, and the way you are seen through the process. Baby Soleil’s arrival is proof that even when plans change, empowerment is still possible. 💛 If you’re preparing for birth, considering home birth, or navigating decisions around induction and preeclampsia, this conversation is one you don’t want to miss.
