    6. Why Are Boys And Girls So Different?

This week’s big question: why are boys and girls so different? Are girls secretly half cat? Do we send boys to Mud University? We start with the ridiculous theories (obviously) before edging our way toward chromosomes, bodies, and what actually shapes who we are. It’s lively, slightly chaotic, and surprisingly thoughtful once the giggling settles. Perfect for car journeys where someone’s about to argue in the back seat. Designed for curious kids aged 5–11, but built as a family podcast that grown-ups genuinely enjoy too. If you’re after science for kids that doesn’t feel like homework, this one’s for you. New episodes land every Monday. Follow the show so you never miss a big question, send us the weird and wonderful things your children ask, and share it with another family who could use smarter road trip listening. 5. Why Do We Draw Hearts to Show Love?

This week on Smartie Pants and the Big Why, we’re asking a very important question: why do we draw hearts to show love? With help from Aelish (age 7), we dive into the mystery of the world’s most famous squiggle. Why does the love heart look nothing like the actual heart inside your chest? Did someone guess? Did they sneeze halfway through a circle? Or are hearts secretly just two bum cheeks squeezed together? Join us as we wobble our way through heartbeats, big feelings and the moment humans decided that two bumpy curves and a point meant “I like you quite a lot”. Perfect for curious primary-aged kids and their grown-ups who have ever drawn a heart on a card without really knowing why. Got a big “Why?” from your own Smartie Pants? Email us at smartiepantsbigwhy@gmail.com and we might answer it in a future episode. Subscribe now so you never miss a big question… and maybe practise your heart-drawing skills before the next one.

    4. Why Do Animals Make Weird Noises?

This week on Smartie Pants and the Big Why, we turn the volume up on one of the animal kingdom’s noisiest puzzles: why do animals make weird noises? With help from Aelish (age 7), we dive headfirst into a world of barking dogs, mooing cows and pigeons on the attack. Join us as we stomp, squawk and howl our way through the chaos to figure out what’s really going on when animals make all those strange and wonderful sounds… and whether they’re actually saying more than we think. Perfect for curious kids aged 5–9 and their grown-ups who have ever been barked at by a dog, yelled at by a seagull, or suspiciously stared at by a cow. Got a big “Why?” from your own Smartie Pants? 3. Why Do Babies Cry?

This week on Smartie Pants and the Big Why, we investigate one of life’s loudest mysteries: why do babies cry? With help from Aelish (age 7), we dive into the chaos of tiny humans with very big feelings. Is it because sock-stealing gremlins are at work? Are tummy monsters pressing the panic button? Or are babies secretly setting off their own dramatic baby alarms for fun? Join us as we tumble into a lively discussion about babies, crying and what’s really going on when they’re trying to tell us something... even before they can talk. Perfect for curious kids aged 5–9 and their grown-ups who have definitely been woken up at 3am by a very loud little person. Got a big “Why?” from your own Smartie Pants? 2. Why Do Teeth Fall Out?

This week on Smartie Pants and the Big Why, we've got ourselves some microphones and a few musical jingles, and Aelish has lost two teeth in one week - so obviously we had to investigate what on earth is going on inside her face. Is the tooth fairy building large towers with your teeth? Are your teeth desperately trying to escape your dad's awful singing in the shower? Are K-pop Demon Hunters secretly involved? Join us as we tumble into a bonkers story and a lively discussion about your adult teeth and the mysterious Tooth Fairy. Perfect for curious kids aged 5-9 and the grown-ups who secretly enjoy the chaos too. Got a big “Why?” from your own Smartie Pants? 1. Why Do Farts Stink?

(In episode 1 we didn't have mics yet so the sound quality isn't the best, but we have to start somewhere! Hope you enjoy!) Why do we fart? Why do farts smell so bad? Why are some of them so loud? In the very first episode of Smartie Pants and the Big Why, Aelish (7) brings a question every child has wondered about - but most grown-ups would rather avoid in public. Together with her dad, she dives head-first into the mystery of smelly farts through silly guesses, outrageous wrong answers, and a silly discussion about tiny fart minions having a party inside your tummy. Along the way, they explore where the smell actually comes from, why some farts sound louder than others (yes… it involves bum cheeks), and the two surprising ways gas can escape from your body. There are fart ninjas, smelly unicorns, smelly bum volcanoes and much more. Every episode is designed for car journeys, kitchen tables and bedtime listening - where children hear someone their own age thinking out loud and not taking things too seriously while parents get to laugh along instead of switching off. At the end of the show, Aelish sets a Smartie Pants Challenge for families to continue the conversation at home: Who does the stinkiest farts in your house? If your home is full of “Why? Why? Why?” then you’re already a Smartie Pants. Welcome aboard! Questions, ideas or feedback? Email us at smartiepantsbigwhy@gmail.com
