A guided meditation for setting intentions, letting go and co-creating with life

I have a lovely guided meditation for you this week, one inspired by a few different thoughts and musings I’ve been reflecting on. The first thread of inspiration is this weekend’s new moon in Taurus. New moons are a time of planting seeds and setting intentions. And Taurus is of course a sign associated with the physical… the physical body and the physical world. And this is important, and you’ll notice this thread woven into this meditation. Because I see this new moon is not just asking you to set an intention, but to bring it down from the ether and into the physical world. To take a grounded step towards what you desire. Taurus is earthy and tactile, and this new moon asks for this same energy over a purely mental approach. And then of course Taurus also brings themes of patience, of understanding timing, of being willing to work towards a dream with slow, steady and consistent dedication. Taurus reminds us that the most sustainable things are rarely built overnight. They are cultivated slowly, patiently, lovingly over time. Taurus shows us the wisdom and beauty of tending to our dreams with love and devotion. This new moon in Taurus is asking for something different than a set and forget intention which is thrown into the hands of the Universe with an attitude of “it’s up to you now.” This is essentially planting a seed and then dusting off your hands, walking away and saying it’s up to the Universe, or fate, to make sure it grows. And perhaps sometimes, the conditions are just right, and it so happens that your seed does take root and sprout into life. But what if you tended to your seed with love and care? What if you watered it, gave it fertiliser, made sure it got sunlight and good soil? This is co-creation. And this is what this new moon in Taurus is asking of us. And this is not about chasing or forcing your dreams into existence. It’s about becoming an active participant in what you desire, rather than waiting passively for it to arrive. There is a difference between planting a seed, walking away and handing it to the Universe to take care of…….and frantically forcing a seed to bloom, digging it up each day to check its progress and feeling frustrated that it’s not happening on your timeline. Co-creation exists somewhere in the middle…. neither passivity or force. It is tending to the conditions that allow something to flourish. You plant the seed. You set the intention. You tend to it with patience and care. You trust that something magical is unfolding beneath the darkness of the soil. You keep coming back even when there is no visible proof or evidence of growth. You, your dream, the Universe…. all dancing together under the light of the moon to create something beautiful. So with that being said, I invite you to carve out a little time today. Pop on this meditation, and once you have moved through this journey, come back and reflect, or perhaps journal on the following questions because there are intuitive clues within your meditation experience that offer incredible insight and wisdom. The experience you have in this meditation journey is not random. Not just another newsletter. A space to remember who you already are. Human Design. Self-discovery. Alignment. Meditations. In depth. In honesty. In your inbox. What did your body of water look like? For your consideration: Water represents the subconscious, the unknown, the unseen, intuition, emotion. The state of the water in your meditation experience could give you insight into your inner world. Was your water calm, still, gentle, crashing, turbulent, choppy, flowing, murky…. What does this mean to you and how does it relate to your dream or intention? What did the object you picked up look or feel like? What could this symbolise about your dream or desire? For your consideration: Was the object heavy or light? Smooth or jagged? Easy to hold or uncomfortable? Small and subtle or large and impossible to ignore? Ancient-looking? Fragile? Beautiful? Ordinary? Perhaps this symbolises the emotional weight of the dream you are casting, or your relationship to it, or the fears attached to it. What is your object telling you about your dream? What dream or intention are you currently being invited to nurture? For your consideration: This may not be new, it may be a returning or remembering. Almost as if something has been knocking on the door of your heart for awhile and now you are finally ready to welcome it in. What ripples might this dream create in your life, and in the lives of others? For your consideration: In this meditation you were invited to notice the ripples in the water after casting your object. This is symbolic of the ripples your dream or intention could have in your life because of course nothing exists in isolation. Every action sends ripples, for you and others. What are the ripples of your dream? What is one grounded action you could take to anchor this intention into the physical world and meet the universe halfway? For your consideration: It doesn’t have to be big, in fact I’d encourage it to be small. What’s important is the intention behind the action. What would it look like to tend this dream patiently, rather than forcing it to happen more quickly? For your consideration: Seeds do not sprout as soon as they are planted. You don’t dig them up every day to check if they are growing. You trust. You tend in what you can’t yet see. Can you bring the same approach to your dream? Can you trust its timing rather than rush its growth? As always, if you would like to share your experience, I’d love to hear from you. Until next time, Alice x P.S. The Dreaming Heart: Guided Meditation

Hi loves, I have another meditation for you this week. I was initially planning on writing about Human Design but then when it came to sit down and write, what came to me was the idea for this meditation, so here we are. This meditation is designed to help you tap into your heart’s true desires, wishes, wants and dreams. This is the space where you can ask, and answer, the question….. “What would I be doing if nothing were impossible? What would I be doing if I could do anything? What does my dreaming heart want to share with me?” And it’s funny because it wasn’t until after I had this idea that I realised what a beautiful time of year it is to be tapping into this energy. If this resonated with you and you’d like to support my work, you’re welcome to become a subscriber or buy me a coffee….both help me continue creating reflections and meditations like this. We are coming into the final week of Pisces season which brings energies of dreams, spiritual connection, mysticism, intuition, idealism, creativity. Pisces is also the last sign of the zodiac symbolising a time of endings and closing out cycles. Pisces is less about logic and more about feeling into what is possible. This is a time when the edges soften…when the boundaries between what is and what could be begin to blur. A time when the dreaming heart has a little more space to speak. And then of course we have mercury in Pisces at the moment. Which lends to the mercurial themes of communication, thinking, cognition and expression becoming symbolic, intuitive and emotional. And then when you add to the mix the fact that Mercury is retrograde in Pisces, this is asking us to revisit, review, reflect, remember (all the r words!). I’ve heard it said that this is a time when the veil is thin which feels fitting…a time when intuition is heightened, emotional clarity strong, creative inspiration flowing, dreams vivid…in other words, a beautiful time to dream the big dream. We also have the upcoming new moon in Pisces on the 19th of March here in Australia, perhaps the 18th for you depending on where you are in the world. New moons are a time for setting intentions, planting energetic seeds and dreaming of the next chapter. And then shortly after on the 20th/21st of March we have the equinox, the beginning of the astrological new year with the sun entering Aries and the end of Mercury retrograde. If you were feeling hopeful about the Year of the Fire Horse, and perhaps a little disillusioned in feeling as if you’re off to a slow start…this could be the moment when the energies really shift and the horse is let out of the stables. But this isn’t to say this time should be overlooked or wished away. This is the dreaming phase before the new beginning. A time to imagine, dissolve limitations, reconnect with your heart’s true desires and set the trajectory of your heart so that when the energies shift, you have know where you are going…. not where you think you should go, not where others are going….where YOU want to go. So with that being said, I invite you to make yourself comfy, settle in, listen to this meditation and carve out a little time to listen to your dreaming heart. With love, Alice x P.S. Recalibration with nature: a guided meditation

I have a lovely meditation practice to share with you today, one that offers an invitation to tune into your energetic state and then allow nature to support a gentle recalibration….either meeting you exactly where you are, or reminding you of what else is possible. This week’s meditation supports you to: * Notice and connect with your energetic state without judgement * Reconnect with the natural world as a source of wisdom and balance * Allow your energy to gently recalibrate through presence and awareness * Remember that nature can both mirror how we feel and show us new possibilities As always, if there is anything on your mind, or heart, you would like to share, I’m always more than happy to hear from you. You are welcome to leave a comment below or send me a message. And if there is someone who you think might also enjoy this meditation, you are welcome to share it with them. Letting go before the year turns

As we come towards the final week or so of the Year of the Snake, I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve shed, released, transformed and let go of in the last year. Labels, identities, patterns, layers of myself that no longer fit. And alongside these reflections on shedding, I’ve also been thinking about capacity. Long before I found out I was a Projector in Human Design, I had this feeling that there was something wrong with me for being unable to cope with life, particularly work, in the way others could. Working as a midwife I saw my colleagues doing overtime, double shifts, permanent night shift, and even going out after work (I feel my fellow Projectors will understand when I say this has always been unbelievable to me.) And something you hear often in the wellness and personal development space is the sentiment of needing to expand your capacity. But for me, this didn’t feel expansive or supportive. It quietly fed the sense that I was under-resourced, falling short and lacking the ability to cope. But as many Projectors do, I pushed myself to keep up. I tried to prove my worth through doing, I overworked and forced myself to keep going when every part of me wanted to stop. And of course this led me to fall into a period of physical, emotional and mental burnout, an unfortunately common life experience for Projectors. When I learned I was a Projector and what this means, suddenly everything made sense. It reframed my entire relationship with capacity as not something I lacked, but something I had been overfilling and viewing from the wrong perspective. I could see that I wasn’t incapable of coping with life but had been pushing myself to live and work in a way that I’m not designed for. I experimented with my design, understood my patterns of conditioning and made choices to live in alignment with my true nature. But in the last few weeks I’ve felt the pressure, conditioning and old patterns creep in. Working more. Saying yes when I want to say no. Taking on too much. Overfilling my days. Too much doing. Not enough space. And I won’t lie, there is part of me that feels guilt for this. A sense that I should know better by now. But what I’ve come to realise is that sometimes you need to go back to what you let go of, shed and said no to. Not because the no was wrong but because returning confirms why it was necessary. The first no protected you while you were still inside the experience. But time and distance change the lens. And when you revisit something from this changed place, you’re not undoing a decision or failing, you’re meeting it again as a different version of yourself. And my experience of falling back into old patterns, while humbling, has also been deeply validating. It’s confirmed my intuition wasn’t wrong. It’s confirmed my Projector nature. It’s confirmed the value of Human Design and why I love it so much. It showed me that returning to what we once said no to isn’t failure but part of the shedding process itself. It showed me that sometimes we don’t truly understand what we’ve shed until we try to carry it again. And it showed me that this isn’t actually a problem of me not having enough capacity. I don’t need more capacity. We are all already holding plenty. The last couple of weeks especially have shown me that I can hold a lot. But it has also shown me…. I don’t want to. And that feels scary, but important, to say. And it’s not that I don’t want a big, beautiful, full life, but it’s more that I don’t want my life to be full of what drains me. I want spacious days, free time, slow mornings and expansiveness. So what if the issue isn’t that we need to stretch ourselves further, widen our nervous systems, optimise our resilience and expand our capacity so that we can hold more? What if the issue is that we are all holding far too much? What if your capacity doesn’t need to change? But what’s inside it does. What if this is less about becoming someone who can hold more and more like becoming someone who holds only what is essential? What if instead of expanding your capacity, you let go of what is no longer serving you? But as I say this, I don’t want you to mistake this for an invitation to let go of what doesn’t matter so you can add more of what does. No. Let go of the noise. Let go of the clutter. Let go of what is weighing you down. And keep the spaciousness you’ve created free. And I think you’ll find that this is when your nervous system will finally soften and quietly thank you. With that being said, I have created this meditation to support you in these final days of shedding, releasing and letting go before we cross the threshold into the Year of the Horse. And if you feel called to, you might like to journal on these questions to deepen your reflections: * What does your capacity feel like at the moment? Spacious, overfilled, cluttered, noisy, free, balanced? * What have you shed and released this year? * What are you still holding onto but feel ready to let go of? * Where have you returned to something you once said no to? And what did that return teach you? * How can you create more spaciousness in your life? Loving Kindness Meditation (Metta)

This meditation practice is called Loving-Kindness meditation, also known as Metta. And this is a beautiful Buddhist mindfulness practice which I was introduced to at a yoga class last year and instantly resonated with. And so this week, I felt called to share it with you. And as you’ll see in this meditation, this practice involves extending love and compassion first towards ourselves, then to someone in particular, and then to all. And what I love about this practice is that it starts with you. There is recognition and understanding that before we can extend love, compassion, kindness and be of service to others, we first need to do the same for ourselves. We come first. And in many ways this is opposite to what so many of us are conditioned to believe. For women, and mothers especially, there is such strong conditioning and societal expectations to be self-sacrificing, to look after others at the expense of ourselves, to put others first, to do what will please and what will make others happy. But I can’t help but see this contradiction here because on one hand this is what society expects from us. But then on the other hand, we hear surface level sentiments and platitudes about putting on your own oxygen mask before others or the importance of filling your cup first. And these platitudes can almost be like water off a duck’s back and have very little impact when trying to go against the grain of deep societal and subconscious conditioning, across many generations, that says otherwise. And of course while there is a much bigger societal conversation to be had here, I also see that this is where it starts at a grass roots individual level…..with practices like this meditation where you embody and remind yourself that it is not only okay to be loving and kind to yourself, but it is necessary. And it comes first. And this is ultimately at the crux of the work I do when supporting women with hypnotherapy and Human Design….. it is a reclamation of self. An exploration of who you are beneath the conditioning, labels and layers and a reconnection to what you truly desire. A journey of cultivating the self-worth to put yourself first and build a life that is authentic to the core essence of who you are. So I hope you enjoy this practice and as always if you’d like to share your thoughts or experience, I’d love to hear from you. And if there is someone who you think would enjoy this meditation, you are welcome to share it with them. The tides are turning

Welcome to 2026! Before we dive in today, and if you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to first listen to last week’s meditation and read my Substack where I shared what I see to be the missing piece of the puzzle of this new year portal….reflection. I know there can be an eagerness to leave the past behind and focus on the future, particularly if you, like me, found 2025 challenging. But please do spend some time in reflection first as it’s only by understanding where you’ve been that you can make more intentional decisions about where you’re going. And then when you feel ready, this meditation practice is here to support you in creating an intention for 2026 and stepping into the new energy of this year. This is a slightly different meditation practice which is designed to be interactive, so make sure to have a journal and pen handy as there will be opportunities throughout to write from your heart in this beautiful meditative state. The energetics of 2026 While 2025 asked us to shed, transform, let go and close chapters, 2026 asks us to move. Of course the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac will continue until February which means that we will continue to feel this final push to shed over the next 6 or so weeks before we move into the Year of the Fire Horse. But to give you a little glimpse of what to expect, the Fire Horse brings an energy of forward movement, taking action, momentum and freedom. The Horse brings their incredible energy and unstoppable nature backed by their ability to endure and persevere. It’s associated with enthusiasm, drive, courage, authenticity and a desire for freedom and adventure. And then the fire element brings the energy of passion, dynamism, energy and leadership. There could be a potential with this energy to say yes to everything, to overextend or to chase momentum and so the invitation here is to let the wisdom gained in the Snake year guide the direction of your movement so that speed doesn’t come at the cost of alignment. At the same time, numerologically, 2026 is a 1 year, the beginning of a brand new cycle. A 1 year carries the energy of new beginnings, a fresh start, initiation, identity and creation. It’s the seed moment. The point of origin. The blank canvas full of possibility. And this isn’t about creating something perfect, but more about experimenting. It isn’t about looking around and seeing what other people are painting and blindly copying, but about creating something unique and true to you, no matter what it looks like. This isn’t about conforming but about self-expression, experimentation, innovation and the courage to try. There is also a strong theme here of self-discovery, identity, independence, moving out of your comfort zone and taking a risk on something new. And it’s funny as I’m writing this I can’t help but be reminded that in many ways the 1 year brings a similar energy to teenagehood. A time which can be laden with the pressure to conform or risky behaviour, but also a time which is deeply focused on self, finding your place in the world, craving independence, experimenting, individuality and self-expression. Together, the Horse and 1 year combination is a powerful new chapter. And what makes this pairing especially potent is that your experience of 2026 will be deeply informed by the energetics of 2025. The Horse doesn’t want to carry excess weight. The 1 year doesn’t want to repeat old cycles unconsciously. So anything that wasn’t released, integrated or acknowledged in 2025 may continue to make itself known this year. And of course not as a punishment, but ultimately for your highest good and evolution. So now that you know a little more about the energetics of 2026, I wanted to share a few thoughts on this new year portal. Firstly, there is no pressure to have “completed” 2025 and you haven’t failed if you are still in your process of reflection and working out exactly what your intentions are for the year ahead. Sometimes it can take time to settle into the new energy of the new year. And remember that the zodiac year doesn’t start until the March Equinox/Aries season and the Chinese New Year doesn’t start until February. And particularly if you are in Australia, and I know even more so for parents, it often feels like the new year doesn’t really start in full force until school starts back after the summer holidays. So while it can be lovely to lean into the celebration and symbolism of the new year, if you are feeling rushed or pressured in any way, here is your invitation to take the pressure off. Give yourself time. Allow yourself space to process, reflect, consider, contemplate and sink into the new year. You don’t have to launch in. You can ease in gently. Secondly, at a time of year when there is so much focus on the future and what’s coming next, on setting SMART goals and writing resolutions, on creating a vision board…..it can be all to easy to lose sight of the present moment. And I’ve come to realise that an antidote to losing yourself in ‘what’s coming next’ is ritual. Rituals are something that I’ve really leant on heavily this past year and in many ways they have been my anchor and source of stability in a year which has otherwise felt very uncertain. And to give you a little idea as to what I mean by ritual, these are some of the rituals I have leant on throughout this new year portal. * Meditation This probably comes as no surprise to you as I obviously create and share my weekly meditations here on Substack which I love. But after listening to a podcast with Buddhist monk and meditation teacher, Gelong Thubten, I’ve been inspired to incorporate a silent meditation practice rather than always opting for guided meditations. And this is already bringing me a huge amount of calm and clarity to start my day. * New Year Letter I started this ritual last year where I wrote a letter to myself to open on the 1st of January 2026. And this was actually a really lovely practice….and also very interesting to see how much I’ve changed over this last year and read the things I thought I wanted which I now see were actually not true or authentic. And of course after reading last years letter, I put pen to paper and wrote this years to open on the 1st of January 2027. * Cacao ceremony I sat a beautiful New Years cacao ceremony…..while cacao has been something I’ve dabbled in this year, I feel the definite pull to make this a deeper, more regular and intentional practice and so I have signed up to a membership with twice-monthly ceremonies and I am so looking forward to deepening this ritual over the coming year. * 13 wishes This is a new ritual which I started this year and have loved! Starting on the summer solstice here in Australia (winter solstice for my Northern hemisphere readers) I wrote 13 wishes and burnt one each night for 12 nights symbolising me releasing them to the universe to take care of….and the final wish remaining is my personal responsibility. * The Beach The beach has been, and I think always will be, my most consistent and most loved ritual. The ocean is my ultimate source of wisdom, love, connection and belonging and I don’t think words could ever describe the gravitational pull I feel towards it. While some of these rituals are more ceremonial and grand, there are so many other little rituals that I incorporate into my day-to-day life to bring pockets of presence and mindfulness. Whether this is lighting a candle and setting an intention before a client session, pulling a card or enjoying a cup of tea in silence. And in fact I often find that it’s the small simple seemingly unimportant moments which can be easily overlooked or rushed through which have the greatest potential to make a difference to your day when come to with presence and intention. So a gentle invitation for you today to bring a little more ritual into not only this new year portal, but also your daily life. And perhaps one of these rituals could be to create a cosy space, make a hot drink, listen to this meditation and pull out a journal. And here I’d encourage you firstly to just brain dump and free-write any words, visuals, feelings, thoughts, intentions which came to you during the meditation. And then if you feel called to go deeper you may like to consider the following questions…. * What wisdom are you carrying forward from 2025? * If you allowed yourself to start without needing certainty, what would you begin? * What feels like a true, aligned first step….not the whole plan, just the first step? * Where in your life do you feel a desire for more freedom, movement or expression? * What simple ritual could support you in staying connected to yourself this year? I hope this meditation brings you the opportunity to ease in gently to the shifting energetics of 2026, and as always, I’m here if there is anything you’d like to share. And if there is someone you think will enjoy this meditation, you are welcome to share it with them. If you enjoyed this free series of meditations and are keen to carry a meditation practice through 2026, I invite you to join me as a paid subscriber where I share weekly guided meditations to bring you a little more calm, connection and presence. The Year That Was: Guided Meditation

As we approach the end of the year it is all too easy to get swept up in ‘New Year’ energy. Whether this is setting resolutions, starting to plan for the year ahead or setting goals this is a very obvious time where so much of society is looking to the future. And while there is nothing inherently wrong with this, and I actually think it is a beautiful time of year to call in this new energy and set intentions, I see there to be a missing piece of the puzzle…reflection. And so this meditation practice is here to support you in pausing, slowing down and reflecting before jumping straight into the new year. Because the truth is we live in a heavily future-focused society. A superficial example of this would be the hot cross buns for sale on Boxing Day but it also goes so much deeper than this. Collectively we are conditioned to always look ahead to the next milestone. It’s not unusual to feel impatient, to want time to go more quickly, to want to fast-forward to the next chapter, particularly if our current chapter is difficult. And while this often is well-meaning and comes from a place of anticipation for what’s to come, if we are not careful it can start to feel like you’re just hopping from one task, milestone, or even year, to the next. Almost like your mind is always ten steps ahead of what is right in front of you believing that peace or happiness, or whatever you are searching for, lies just on the other side of the next hurdle. But as I’m sure you’ve come to realise, this is ultimately an illusion. The finish line keeps moving. It’s a never-ending cycle. When one milestone, or year, has been and gone, the next one will present itself. And to some extent, this is perhaps human nature. It is evolutionary. We are designed to look forward and reach for more. But I worry that perhaps it has been taken too far and we are so focused on what is coming next that when the thing comes that we had been wanting, we don’t fully appreciate it. We just ask, once again, “what’s next?” This constant sprint through life not only depletes your energy but also robs you of the joy of being in the present moment. The mindset of always waiting for the next thing and of always looking toward the future makes it hard to recognise and appreciate how far you’ve come and all that you have already achieved. When you’re perpetually focused on what’s next, you miss what’s right in front of you. And over time, this way of living can leave you feeling burned out, disconnected and yearning for something that seems forever out of reach. So today we are going to take some time to slow down and reflect on 2025. The energetics of 2025 In all honesty, I started and journeyed through most of this year having no idea that is was the Year of the Wood Snake in the Chinese Zodiac and a 9 year in numerology. And part of me wonders if I had, whether this would have made the hard times (of which there were many!), feel any less hard. Because when I finally realised and read about the energetics of 2025, I felt a huge sigh of relief knowing that it wasn’t just me. It wasn’t bad luck. It wasn’t anything I did wrong that created such a difficult year. It is simply part of the cyclical process. And while it shouldn’t be surprising, I love the synchronicities that these two systems, the Chinese Zodiac and Numerology, offer. In the Chinese Zodiac the Snake is a symbol of transformation, rebirth, intuition, intelligence and wisdom. This is a year that asked us to shed layers, labels, identities, and anything that we have outgrown and which is no longer serving us so that we can transform and step into our truest version of self. And this is not a quick process, this is a slow unfurling that happens when the pain of staying where we are is greater that the fear of what may lie ahead. Of course the Chinese Zodiac doesn’t run alongside the calendar year and will continue until February which means that we will continue to feel this final push to shed over the next 6 or so weeks before we move into the Year of the Horse. According to Numerology, 2025 is a 9 year, the final number in the cycle. Nine carries the energy of completion, integration and letting go. It asks us to reflect on the chapters that are closing, the lessons that have been learned and what is ready to be released so that a new cycle can begin in 2026 with a 1 year. Together these energies created a year that hasn’t been about pushing forward but about letting go, shedding, completion, closing chapters and endings. A year for clearing space, emotionally, energetically and practically, so that what comes next is rooted in truth rather than conditioning, momentum or obligation. A personal reflection I know I’ve shared a little about the challenges of this year on my Substack and podcast but in brief, the themes of this year - completion and shedding - couldn’t be more fitting if they tried. This year has shaken the foundations of everything I thought I knew and has had me questioning my identity, asking “Who am I?” and shedding labels I’ve held for as long as I can remember. This has been hugely influenced, and I think heightened, by my ever-deepening journey with Human Design as my personal experience of shedding could also be described in Human Design language as deconditioning. And just as a snake has to shed its skin to survive, the same is true for us. Yes we could continue moving through life as our conditioned self, wearing layers upon layers of labels, identities and stories that we adopt and force ourselves to wear but eventually it will become so constrictive that it becomes a chokehold. It’s only through this process of shedding, letting go and deconditioning that we are able to reveal our truth and move through the world as our authentic self. But this isn’t to say it is easy. I’ve found this process, and this year in particular, to be incredibly destabilising as I realised that of all the labels I’ve held, very very few are actually authentic to me. The truth being they were essentially protective measures I developed to survive in a world that didn’t support my natural way of being. As I said earlier, I can’t help but wonder if I had known about the energetics of this year earlier whether I would have approached this year differently. I spent so much of this year trying to do the opposite of what this year asked for….trying to push, force and move forward. And then of course wondering why I wasn’t moving, why everything felt so hard, why everything I thought I knew was falling away, why the ground beneath me felt so unsteady, why I was questioning everything I thought I knew. But this perhaps leads me to something else I wanted to share, the difference between dwelling and reflecting. Because if I’m not careful, and I know this is what past versions of me would have done, I’d get stuck dwelling on the hardness of this year. Stuck in the challenges. Stuck in the struggle. Stuck in the search for the answer to the question of “Why?” Dwelling vs Reflecting I used to be a Queen of dwelling. Like a song on repeat, my mind would run through an experience I’d had, something I did or didn’t do, or should or shouldn’t have said, over and over and over again. If you too are familiar with dwelling you’ll know how torturous it can feel stuck in this endless loop. Dwelling keeps you tethered to the past emotionally, mentally and sometimes somatically. Instead of observing the experience, you’re inside it and living it again and again and again. And of course, dwelling is often riddled with undercurrents of judgment, regret or self-blame. This is where reflection is different. Reflection is spacious, intentional and compassionate. It’s the act of looking back from the present moment, with awareness and curiosity. Reflection allows you to gather insight without losing your footing in the now. I find that reflection often brings a sense of clarity, relief or closure even if the experience itself was challenging. Reflection is a way to honour the past without living there whereas dwelling keeps you bound to it. And especially in this year of completion, I see the decision to let go of dwelling and instead opt for reflection to be the ultimate act of wisdom and self-compassion. Reflection is essentially a process of taking stock. A process of seeing the wood for the trees. A process of getting clear on exactly where you are and how you got there because it’s only then that you can you move forward with clarity and intention. A metaphor I love to use here is that when you enter your destination in maps or your GPS, in order to calculate your route, you also need your current location. The GPS is unable to work out how to get you where you want to go without knowing where you are right now. And I see this to be a little like that. I don’t see how you can set your destination, your intentions, your goals for 2026 without first knowing your current location. Align with Alice is a reader-supported publication. So while your instinct may just be to jump straight into where you want to go in the year ahead, I encourage you to pause and reflect. This is your opportunity to acknowledge the experiences and lessons that have shaped you, to consider both the highs and the lows, recognise the challenges you’ve overcome and celebrate the progress you’ve made, no matter how small it may seem. Reflection is where you gain valuable insights into what’s working in your life and what isn’t. It gives you the chance to assess your habits, choices and patterns and to identify what aligns with the person you want to be and the life you want to live and what may be holding you back. And remember that this isn’t about labelling the entire year as good or bad, but recognising that there would have been highs and lows

    CALM: Guided Meditation

As I write this we are in the lead up to Christmas, a notoriously busy time of year for so many. A time with a layer of pressure to finish projects or wrap up loose ends, more social commitments, more tasks on the to-do list, perhaps gifts to buy, meals to plan and prepare. But on a deeper level this time of year often brings up big emotions, perhaps a by-product of spending more time with family, feeling over-stretched and under-appreciated, perhaps a reminder that another year has passed, and for some, maybe a feeling of sadness or grief that you are not experiencing the festive spirit and family connections that you may be seeing around you. All of this to say, if you find this time of year hard, for whatever reason, you’re not alone. And this meditation is here to help you carve out a little time to come back to yourself, time to pause, turn inwards and return to a state of balance and calm. And as I was leaning into the idea of this meditation and what I wanted to create for you, I was reminded of a snow globe, something that we often see at Christmas time. And of course when you shake up a snow globe, this causes a flurry of snow to swirl throughout the globe. And then with a little time left in peace, quiet and stillness, the snow will eventually settle and fall to the ground as the globe clears. And I was reminded that this is how our energy can often feel, particularly in December, but to be honest at any time of overwhelm. It can feel like this flurry of heightened energy swirling throughout our body, clouding our vision and making it hard to move forward with clarity and calm. And so just like this snow globe, sometimes we too just need an opportunity to be still and allow the energy to settle so that we can come back to ourselves…. and so this is what this meditation is designed to support you with. After listening to this meditation, you may like to journal to deepen this practice and reflect on questions such as: * Where in your life do things currently feel “shaken up” or overstimulated? * What emotions tend to surface for you at this time of year? * What boundaries or practices would support you in feeling more grounded over the coming days? * How does your body feel after allowing yourself this moment of quiet and calm? * What is becoming clearer for you now that the “snow” has had time to fall? I hope this meditation brings you a pocket of calm that you can carry with you as you move through the holiday season, and as always, I’m here if there is anything you’d like to share.
