    19. Getting Into And Escaping a South Korean Apocalyptic Christian Cult with James of JD Astrology

Have you ever gotten accidentally recruited into a cult - and lived to tell the tale? Well, James of JD Astrology and the Charted Astrology Podcast has, and he's come on to The Heal and Harm Show to tell us all about it! James explains the slow burn, very sneaky recruitment process that this South Korean based Christian Cult would go through to assess potential marks, and then slowly groom and brainwash them into full cult indoctrination. James discusses his own Christian background, which was more in depth than most, and how cult members would sneakily use many tactics to bring new unsuspecting members into the group. Tactics used by this group included love bombing, meticulous grooming, withholding information and releasing it in a very slow drip manner, and having strict rules about which marks they pursued. As a part of my research for this episode, James sent me a leaked compendium of recruitment how-to documents and PowerPoint presentations, including sample text conversations where cult members would pretend to be friends with new recruits in organisations which acted as fronts, hiding who was really putting on various Christian events. This cult has been described as a messianic, high-control group with an apocalyptic and "end times" doomsday-centric approach to Christianity. James discusses how he felt while in the cult, how the cult caused him to feel about others in his life who weren't in the cult, and what the final straw was that enabled him to finally get out. I also share some of my own research into cult psychology, and compare some cult psychology to the psychology that occurs in abusive relationships.  Episode 19 of The Heal and Harm Show with Sabrina Scott  ⁨@JDastrology⁩  On The Heal and Harm Show on YouTube, I dive into deep discussions with spiritual, witchy, occult, wellness, and self-help oriented guests to talk about what happens when we try to heal ourselves and improve our lives. 18. Rejecting Fear, Shining Brightly, and Disrupting the Norm in Astrology with Helena Woods

In this episode of The Heal and Harm Show, I chat with internet sensation and locational astrologer Helena Woods! We begin by talking about Helena's quantum leap and quick rise into being a person on the internet by tapping into her energy of belief, and aligning with her own personal astrology and locking into her mission to spread astrology education to more people in order to help them improve their lives.  Some people are very easily triggered by people who are comfortable being authentic, being seen, and living out loud as their authentic self. We talk about about being a public person on the internet, dealing with haters and criticism, and saying no to the impulse to convince people to understand us. We talk about ethical business, having the audacity to BUILD something completely new when we see a need in the community or a gap in our industry's offerings. Helena also discusses her business model, and how to support students without doing ourselves a disservice when running a business. We also discuss the importance of relating to astrology in a way that isn't fear based - and instead of using astrology to limit us and our choices, working with it in a hopeful way that is aware of any challenges. Astrology (and locational astrology in particular) doesn't have to be drama, doom, gloom, and fear mongering - it can be expansive for us, rather than contracting. Helena also shares how her experience learning astrology completely shifted her perspective on fate and predestination, in contrast to free will and full personal autonomy. Her relationship to manifestation and the law of attraction changed big time once she got into astrology - and you'll have to listen to the full episode to find out how! We also discuss a lil bit of tarot (my favourite!), as well as the recent drama about the word "astrocartography" being trademarked in France. Helena shares her front-row experience to how all of that transpired, and how one of her own students sent a cease and desist - and what she thinks will happen next in the whole kerfuffle within the community. 17. Ancestral Healing, Reclaiming Identity, and Stepping Into Our Own Unique Magic with Marcella Kroll

In this episode I chat with author, deck creator, and spiritual teacher Marcella Kroll. We talk about demons, which Marcella refers to as "divine infernals," and some mischaracterizations or misunderstandings many may have about these beings, and why they are important. We also discuss beings who are on the 'darker' side of things, such as Lucifer and Santisima Muerte. We also discuss what it's been like to age and mature as creators who have been 'people on the internet' for more than a decade, and how what we share, create, and put our attention toward has changed. We also discuss addiction, recovery, sobriety, and how magic can sometimes impede recovery/healing and be used as escapism. Identity, reclaiming our ancestral background(s), and working with spiritual entities outside of our background (and within it!) is also something we get into, as well as the weirdness of identity policing and the rise of entitlement and parasocial relationships in the spiritual community on the internet. An important and interesting multifaceted episode you won't want to miss! 16. The Importance of Beautiful Artwork and Allowing Ourselves to Be Bewitched with Elisa Vita

In this episode of The Heal and Harm Show, I chatted with Montreal based oil painter Elisa Vita. Elisa sees her painting process as a form of shamanistic expression and channelling of the ephemeral into the material, rather than a form of individual self expression. We discuss journeys through grad school and finding a voice as a witchy artist, and 'coming out of the broom closet' in both the academic world, and the art world (which has been overtaken by certain political ideologies). We talk about the importance of love and beauty, and coming into a sense of ownership of spirituality and artistic creation, as well as stepping into a worthiness of receiving money for our artwork (as well as becoming comfortable spending money on pleasure, luxury, beauty, and art created by others)!  We also talk about artists as witches, and artmaking as a form of magic, and how "the task of an artist is to bewitch." Elisa also shares her experiences connecting with animal spirits, faeries, the natural environment, and healthy fear around magic and the spiritual realm. Elisa Vita is also the creator of the Creative Bewitchment podcast and essay series. 15. Shadow Work, Personal Growth, and How to Solve Your Birth Chart with James of JD Astrology

In this episode, I chat with James from JD Astrology, creator of the Charted Astrology Podcast. We begin by discussing James' unusual entrypoint into astrology as well as his unconventional background, which influences his unique perspectives. We talk about astrology as a tool for personal development, facing the 'bad' or challenging parts of ourselves, and how, no matter how terrible your birth chart might seem, it can absolutely be 'solved' or worked through in order to be brought back into balance. We also discuss philosophical questions such as whether or not there are 'bad' or 'good' charts, whether everything is fated or if we have full free will, and more! We also discuss the balances of masculine and feminine energies in astrology, and how the planets relate to masculine and feminine qualities, as well as the importance of rising signs. 14. Personal Sovereignty, Heretical Witchcraft, and Facing the Fire with Peter Grey and Alkistis Dimech of Scarlet Imprint

In this episode of The Heal and Harm Show, I chat with Scarlet Imprint - Peter Grey and Alkistis Dimech! Scarlet Imprint is one of the most innovative, iconoclastic, and important occult/spiritual interventions in publishing. I ask them about their unique blend of offerings (books from a variety of spiritual traditions), how they select the books they spend time on and usher into the world, the unique potential that books have to dissiminate spiritual and magical knowledge, and more. We also discuss the unique possibilities and potentialities embedded and embodied within magic itself, as well as the interesting debates within the advanced/in-depth witchcraft space itself, that much of witchy social media seems to not be aware of - as well as the politics of witchcraft past and present, including the negative impacts of things such as the woke mind virus, ignorant polarization, balkanization, purity politics, grievance politics, victimhood culture, and mass cancellations both within magical communities and outside of them. "Most people aren't actually witches - most people are just cosplayers." A crucial and nuanced conversation not to be missed!
