Amy Siple, NP Took on the Board — and All 11 Members Were Removed

Amy Siple is back with a major victory update. After being penalized by the Kansas State Board of Nursing for a missed license renewal while caring for her sick husband, Amy refused to sign a consent agreement admitting to something she did not believe was true. She was told the odds were impossible. She was warned the fight could bankrupt her. But through prayer, obedience, legal help, media exposure, and legislative action, Amy stood firm. Now her case has been vacated—meaning it is treated as if it never happened. But the victory did not stop with her case. Amy’s fight helped expose a much larger problem: Kansas nurses being labeled “unprofessional” for clerical or de minimis errors, while that same label was also used for serious misconduct. According to Amy, two-thirds of Kansas nursing discipline cases involved license-renewal missteps. Her courage helped bring other nurses forward, led to legislative hearings, sparked an audit, and contributed to sweeping reform of the Kansas State Board of Nursing—including the removal or replacement of all 11 board members. In this short interview, Jodi O’Malley, MSN, RN, speaks with Amy about what it felt like to receive the news, how faith carried her through the battle, why nurses must refuse isolation and shame, and what this victory means for nurses across the country. This is more than a legal win.It is a testimony. Topics covered:• Amy’s case being vacated• The meaning of “unprofessional conduct”• How clerical errors became career-ending labels• Why all 11 Kansas board members were removed/replaced• The role of faith, prayer, and obedience• How one nurse’s courage encouraged others to stand• What nurses should do if they are contacted by a board• Why this reform may become model legislation for other states Ethics anchors:Provision 1 — Human dignityProvision 3 — Advocacy and trustProvision 4 — Accountability and integrityProvision 7 — Advancing the profession This is what happens when one nurse refuses to bow to fear. What happens when nurses are forced to choose between following orders and following their conscience? Jodi O'Malley, MSN RN sits down with nurse practitioner Amy Siple to talk about what really happened inside long-term care facilities during COVID — the isolation, the denied treatments, the patients who died alone — and the faith that kept them standing when the system tried to silence them. The Moment We've Been Waiting For: Sen. Johnson Opens the Congressional Record | Leslie Batts

For five years, we have been told to be quiet. Quiet about the loved ones we dropped off at hospital doors and never saw again. Quiet about the husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers who walked in alive and never walked back out. Quiet about the nurses and doctors who tried to speak up and lost their careers for it. In this episode, Jodi O'Malley, MSN, RN sits down with Leslie Batts — the widow of Paul "Tink" Batts, a healthy 45-year-old husband, father, and cowboy who entered an Oklahoma hospital on October 9, 2021, and never came home. Through 3,000 pages of medical records, Leslie pieced together what really happened behind the locked doors of the COVID ICU. This is one family's story. It is also tens of thousands of stories. 🚨 THE MOMENT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR Senator Ron Johnson, Chair of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, has agreed to open the Congressional record on COVID-19 hospital protocols. Every statement submitted will be entered into the official record of the United States Senate — whether or not you are selected to testify in person. But there is a threshold. He needs 200+ statements to proceed.Senator Johnson does not have the staff or resources to process hundreds of personal statements. Leslie Batts has agreed to collect them on behalf of all of us. Supreme Court Protects Therapist Free Speech | The Truthful Therapist EXPOSES Why “Affirm Only” Is Not Therapy

This healthcare policy and ethics conversation explores how free speech, mental health practice, and state-level legislation are colliding in the fight over exploratory therapy. In this episode of NursesOutLoud, Jodi O’Malley is joined by Pamela Garfield-Jaeger, The Truthful Therapist, for a bold conversation on the Supreme Court decision protecting therapists’ free speech, the misuse of the term conversion therapy, and the growing collision between mental health policy, ethical therapy, and ideological affirmation. Pamela shares why she believes therapy is being redefined, how fear-driven suicide narratives are used to pressure families and professionals, and why blue states are still advancing policies that could punish therapists for honest clinical exploration. Jodi and Pamela also react to the powerful testimony of detransitioner Johnny Skinner, who told California lawmakers about the irreversible harm he says followed blockers and hormones, and they discuss the viral moment involving California Senator Scott Wiener. The episode closes with Pamela’s message to parents and therapists: do not be intimidated, get to the root of the issue, and speak up while there are cracks in the system. Pamela also shares her children’s book, Froggy Girl, and A Practical Response to Gender Distress: Tips and Tools for Families Earn CNE for this episode through NursesOutLoud. New to nursing ethics? Health Policy: When Public Health Becomes Chain of Command

In this episode of NursesOutLoud, Jodi O’Malley, MSN, RN, explores a major health policy issue most people still are not talking about: the culture inside government health agencies and how hierarchy, career protection, protocol, and institutional loyalty can shape public health decisions. Drawing from her firsthand experience as a civilian nurse inside Indian Health Service, Jodi explains why silence inside the system does not always mean agreement — and why nurses must be grounded in the Code of Ethics, not just policy and protocol. She also reflects on Dr. Robert Malone’s comments to frame a larger conversation about public health, institutional pressure, and the cost of dissent. For the Nurse Who Feels Alone: Nursing Ethics, Wholeness of Character, Advocacy, and Conscience in Practice

In this Nursing Ethics episode, Jodi O’Malley and Nurse Tori Jensen speak directly to the healthcare worker who feels alone — unpacking moral courage, religious liberty, wholeness of character, and the cost of advocacy in today’s healthcare system. This episode is available for CNE What begins as an unplanned, candid exchange becomes a deeply personal conversation about the emotional toll of speaking out, the grief that often follows advocacy, and the challenge of staying faithful when the fruit is not always visible. Jodi and Tori reflect on the burden of whistleblowing, the loneliness many nurses feel in ethically tense environments, and the importance of remaining grounded in truth, faith, and integrity. This episode especially reflects themes connected to Provision 5 through wholeness of character and integrity, and Provision 9 through advocacy, activism, and public witness. It also highlights Tori’s reflections on the Religious Liberty Commission hearing and why healthcare workers need to understand their rights when facing conscience conflicts or pressure to violate sincerely held beliefs. This conversation is for the nurse who feels isolated, discouraged, or weary from carrying the weight of what they know is right. Your integrity matters. Your voice matters. And you are not alone. More importantly, this conversation exposes one of the biggest gaps in nursing education: most nurses were never truly taught the Code of Ethics. Nursing Ethics: The Pediatrician Who Writes One Antibiotic Script a Year — And Says Your Child’s Fever Is Not the Enemy

What if everything nursing school taught you about your child's fever — and everything you've been telling patients at triage — was missing the full picture? In this Nursing Ethics episode of NursesOutLoud™, ER nurse, nursing ethics educator, and federal whistleblower Jodi O'Malley, MSN, RN sits down with Dr. Lawrence Palevsky — New York board-certified pediatrician, past president of the American Holistic Medical Association, and one of the most thought-provoking voices in pediatric medicine today. This conversation goes straight at the reflexes medicine has conditioned into all of us: treat the fever, order the swab, write the script. Dr. Palevsky has practiced across ER, ICU, NICU, and pediatric settings and has spent over 20 years providing integrative and holistic solutions for children and families. He writes maybe one antibiotic prescription a year. He doesn't treat fevers by the number on a thermometer. And he has a lot to say about acetaminophen, glutathione, informed consent, and what nurses and parents are never told. Whether you're a nursing student, a new grad RN, an ER/Peds nurse, or a parent — this one will make you think differently. In this episode:✅ Why fever is the body's design — not your enemy✅ What acetaminophen actually does to glutathione (and why that matters during pregnancy)✅ The real cost of reflex antibiotic prescribing✅ Vaccines, informed consent, and what a pediatrician is actually obligated to tell you✅ What nurses owe patients — and what the ANA Code of Ethics demands This is Nursing Ethics content for nurses who want to think, not just comply.
