    Modern people harbor a restless inner world. This impetuous air not only disrupts our peace, but also affects our outward temperament and appearance.現代人內心躁動。這種浮躁之氣不僅影響到內心,當它表現出來時,還會影響到我們的外在氣質乃至相貌。 Even a person with flawless features cannot project true beauty if they are constantly anxious and restless.一個人即使有無可挑剔的容貌,如果浮躁不安,也無法讓人產生美感。 Conversely, someone with an ordinary appearance can radiate a transcendent aura if their mind is serene, detached, and composed. As the saying goes, "People are beautiful because they are lovely, not lovely because they are beautiful."而一個容貌普通的人,如果內心寧靜,淡泊沉穩,也會散發出超然的氣質。有句話說,人是因為可愛而美麗,不是因為美麗而可愛,說的正是這個道理。 To make our lives beautiful and dignified, we must establish a healthy lifestyle for both body and mind. First, view things more lightly.我們要使生命變得美好,變得莊嚴,就要從身心兩方面建立健康的生活方式。其一,對事情看淡一點。 All afflictions are tied to our attachments; only the things we care about can cause us harm. The severity of the harm is directly proportional to the degree of our concern.所有煩惱都和我們的執著有關,我們在乎的事,才會對我們造成傷害。這種傷害程度又取決於我們的在乎程度。 One degree of care brings one degree of affliction and harm. Ten degrees of care generate ten degrees of affliction and harm.有一分在乎,就會有一分煩惱,會受到一分傷害。有十分在乎,就會產生十分煩惱,受到十分傷害。 Once we remove the false projections we place onto external things, we will no longer suffer from the unnecessary anxiety and wounds brought by attachment.把我們附加在事物上的錯誤設定撤掉,就不會因執著帶來不必要的煩惱和傷害了。 Second, lead a calm and orderly life, and learn to enjoy leisure.其二,生活平靜而有規律,學會享受閒暇。 We are so accustomed to constant busyness that the moment we have free time, we instantly look for distractions—chatting, surfing the web, or watching television.我們總是習慣不停地忙著,一閒下來,立即就要聊天、上網、看電視。 People today would rather engage in activities they know are mindless than quietly enjoy a moment of stillness. In truth, they lack the capacity to enjoy leisure because an agitated mind lacks inner support and must endlessly hunt for external crutches.現在的人,寧願做些自己明知無聊的事,也不願靜靜地享受閒暇。事實上,他們也沒有能力享受閒暇。因為這顆動盪的心缺乏支撐,隨時都要尋找依靠。 In reality, our mind is inherently complete with all things; the key is to realize it. Meditation helps us discover the mind's inner potential, rather than blindly seeking outside ourselves.其實,我們的心是具足一切的,關鍵需要去體認。禪修就是幫助我們認識心的潛能,而不是一味向外尋求。 For life, what matters most is possessing correct concepts and a healthy mindset. Only then can we gracefully face the world's countless shifts, remaining unmoved by both fortune and adversity.對人生來說,最重要的,是具備正確觀念和良好心態。這樣才能在從容面對世間種種變化,不為順逆境界所動。

    Our concepts depend on our understanding of the world, which is built entirely upon our senses.我們的觀念,取決於我們對世界的認識,而我們的認識又以感覺為基礎。 Usually, we habitually identify with our feelings, treating whatever we perceive as the sole reality. But are our senses truly that trustworthy? In fact, human perception is deeply flawed.通常,我們總是習慣性地認同自己的感覺,將我們所能覺知的事物和現象當做是唯一的真實。那麼,我們的感覺是不是真的那麼值得信賴呢?事實上,人的感覺是有問題的。 First, our senses are incredibly dull. In a noisy environment, faint sounds are drowned out. In the dark, even the most beautiful scenery becomes invisible to our eyes.首先,我們的感覺非常遲鈍。在嘈雜環境裡,微小的聲音會被淹沒。在黑暗中,即便是最亮麗的色彩、最優美的風景也形同虛設。 Without scientific instruments, our scope of perception is extremely limited: we need microscopes for the tiny, and telescopes for the distant. In a sense, we are not much different from the blind men feeling the elephant.如果不藉助於科學的儀器,人類所能覺知的範圍極其有限:太小的東西我們看不到,需要顯微鏡;太遠的東西我們看不到,需要望遠鏡……在某種意義上,我們和盲人摸象故事中的盲人並沒有太大區別。 Relying solely on our naked eyes and senses, we only perceive a tiny, fragmented portion of the universe, completely ignoring the immense whole and the ultimate truth behind it.僅憑我們的肉眼,僅憑我們的感官,我們能看到、能感覺的不過是大千世界所呈現的非常微小的局部,卻忽略了它們背後更為巨大的整體和真相。 Second, our senses are inherently deceptive. Since ancient times, humans believed that the moon naturally waxes and wanes. But has the moon ever changed its shape?其次,我們的感覺帶有錯亂性。自古以來,人們一直以為月有陰晴圓缺。可是,月亮何嘗有過陰晴圓缺呢? The Earth we live on rotates at a breakneck speed every single moment—"sitting still, we travel eighty thousand miles a day"—yet none of us can feel it.我們所生活的地球,每時每刻都在飛快地自轉,所謂「坐地日行八萬里」,可是我們誰也感覺不到。 Stars in the sky look small enough to grasp, yet astronomers tell us many are vastly larger than Earth. Some of the stars we "see" tonight have already ceased to exist; their light simply took hundreds of light-years to reach us.天上的星辰在我們看來,小得似乎可以抓在手中,但天文學家卻告訴我們,它們中的許多,比我們的地球要大得多。而其中的一部分,在我們看到的時候,早已不再存在,因為它們所散發的光芒,需要幾十甚至幾百光年才能抵達我們的視線範圍。 When we sit in a boat, the riverbanks seem to move; when a pen is placed in water, it appears bent due to the refraction of light.當我們坐在輪船中,感覺兩岸青山在緩緩地移動,實際上是船的前進造成了我們的錯覺;當一支筆插在水中的時候,看起來像是彎的,那是水的折射欺騙了我們的眼睛…… If we simply follow such perceptions and trust them without reservation, where will our lives ultimately lead?如果跟著這樣的感覺,並且毫無保留地信任它,我們的人生會走向哪裡?

    Once we lose touch with our primordial awareness, we generate a series of false assumptions about ourselves.當我們迷失覺悟本體之後,就會對自己產生一系列的錯誤設定。 What exactly am I? What is the foundation of my existence? In truth, there is no fixed, unchanging basis for the "Self."究竟什麼是我?其存在基礎是什麼?作為我的存在,其實並沒有固定不變的基礎。 Because it lacks a foundation, this ego acts like a vine, creeping outward to find something to cling to.因為沒有基礎,這個我就會像藤蔓一樣向外攀附,尋找依托對象。 Our most common misunderstanding is mistake the body for the self. Furthermore, we treat our appearance, roles, status, and wealth as "Me."我們最容易產生的誤解,是把身體當做是我,這是我們在世間最為熟悉也最為密切的部分。此外,我們還會把相貌當做是我,把角色當做是我,把地位當做是我,把財富當做是我。 The problem is that all of these are impermanent and in constant flux. No matter how much we grasp, we can never feel truly safe or at peace, because what we hold is still impermanence.問題是,這一切都是無常的,是處於變化中的。所以,無論我們抓住多少,還是無法感到安全,感到釋然,因為抓住的依然是無常。 To maintain this precarious sense of security, we manufacture some seemingly reliable supports. Chief among them are a sense of self-importance, superiority, and the desire for control.為了維護這份岌岌可危的安全感,我們就會製造一些看似可靠的支撐。其中最主要的,就是自我的重要感、優越感和主宰欲。 First is the sense of self-importance. Its characteristic is that anything related to "Me" becomes extraordinarily vital.首先是自我的重要感。其特點在於,凡與我有關的都特別重要,這是自我存在的關鍵。 Because this ego is fabricated and built out of nothing, it constantly requires bracing and reinforcement. We instinctively amplify its importance, believing this will protect the self from being crushed by impermanence.因為這個自我是由我們設定的,是無中生有地搭建起來的,它需要支撐,需要鞏固。所以,我們就會本能地強化它的重要性,以為這樣就會使自我得到保護,不被無常所擊垮。 Second is the sense of superiority. The ego relies on comparison to find its coordinates.其次是自我的優越感。自我的存在,還需要通過對比來找到坐標。 Once we possess ego-attachment, we separate ourselves from others and the world. To stand firm in this confrontation, we constantly belittle others to highlight our own superiority and confirm our existence.有了我執之後,我們就和眾生、和世界分離了。為了在這樣的對壘中站穩腳跟,使自我不至因為孤立而倒塌,我們會通過不斷貶低別人來突顯自身的優越,來確認自我的存在。 Third is the desire for control. This involves expanding our domain by possessing and dominating others.第三是自我的主宰欲。這是通過對他人的占有和主宰來擴張我的領域。 Just as an army needs allies in war, the ego needs reinforcements and followers in its self-declared battles to boost its confidence.就像打仗需要盟軍支持一樣,在自我發動的這場戰爭中,它也需要援助,需要有更多追隨身後的附屬,以此增強自信。 All of these are merely the habitual tricks of ego-attachment—the psychological food on which it relies to survive.所有這些,都是我執慣用的把戲,是它賴以生存的精神食糧。

    Many people fail to realize just how critical the human identity truly is.很多人不曾意識到,人的身份究竟有多重要。 Because we came into this world as humans this time, it seems like the most ordinary thing. Little do we know, within the endless cycle of birth and death, how many eons we drifted before gaining this chance to be born human.因為我們此生是以這一身份來到世間,似乎做人是再平常不過的事。殊不知,在無盡的生死輪迴中,我們歷經多少劫的沉淪漂浮才有機會生而為人。 Though the global population reaches billions, through the lens of Samsara, it is infinitesimally small compared to the total mass of life across infinite space.雖然世界上有幾十億人口,但從六道輪迴的角度來看,和無窮無盡的空間中難以計數的生命總量相比,又是多麼微不足道。 How many among the myriad of sentient beings are fortunate enough to be human? As the Buddha warned: "Those who gain a human body are like the soil on a fingernail; those who lose it are like the soil of the entire earth."大千世界,芸芸眾生,有幸得以生而為人者有多少?正如佛陀告誡我們的那樣:「得人身者,如爪上土;失人身者,如大地土。」 Gaining a human form in this vast universe is the greatest blessing we can possess in this lifetime. Beyond this, even the status of a king cannot compare to its worth.茫茫宇宙間,我們有幸得到人身,是今生所能擁有的最大福報。除此而外,即使貴為帝王,其價值也無法與之比擬。 When we speak of value, we usually think only of the price of our houses or cars, or how vital our children and careers are. It seems all of life’s meaning is tangled up in these.當我們談到價值時,往往只想到家中的房子、汽車值多少,想到自己的孩子、事業有多重要。我們關注的無非就是這些,似乎人生的所有價值就蘊含其中。 Some find value in making a fortune, some in holding a high position, and some in a lavish lifestyle. These aren't entirely worthless, but their meaning to life is fleeting, not permanent. Tragically, these short-term gains become the lifelong pursuits of many.或以日進斗金為人生價值,或以身居高位為人生價值,或以生活奢華為人生價值。當然,也不能說這一切就毫無價值,只是對人生而言,其意義是短暫而非永久的。可悲的是,這些眼前利益反而成了很多人終生不悔的追求。 Compared to wealth and status, owning a human identity is clearly more valuable. If a transaction demanded a strict one-to-one swap—money on one side, your life on the other—who would agree to that deal?和財富、地位相比,擁有人的身份顯然更有價值。若必須一對一地交換,一邊是錢,一邊是命,又有誰願意達成這筆交易呢? When life and money cannot both be kept, even the creediest person realizes the preciousness of life. If you cease to exist, what meaning does all that money hold?當生命和金錢不可兼得時,再貪婪的人也會意識到生命之可貴;若是一命嗚呼,再多的錢又有什麼意義呢? Wealth, status, career, or relationships—all look pale and powerless before death. At that final moment, wealth is but a hollow number, a career just a fading dream, and a family a painful attachment to leave behind.無論財富、地位,還是事業、感情,在死亡前都顯得蒼白無力。在那個時刻,財富不過是空洞的數字,事業不過是逝去的舊夢,家庭不過是難以割捨的牽掛。 Often, the more you possess in life, the more regrets you carry when leaving. Therefore, we must see clearly what is truly most precious, so that we cherish and utilize it well, rather than ignoring or squandering it.往往是,生前擁有得越多,離開時的遺憾也就越多。所以我們要看清,什麼才是最可寶貴的。在擁有它的時候,珍惜它,善用它,而不是漠視它、揮霍它。

    【菩提好聲音 #34】妄想變現的施工現場 The Construction Site of Delusion

    Nature has its own established operating programs: four distinct seasons, a time to sow, and a time to reap.自然有它既定的運轉程序,一年四季,播種有時,收穫有時。 Compared to the grand cycle of all creation, human history is extremely brief. Yet, the prevalence of egocentrism makes humanity falsely believe it can become the master manipulator of nature.與之相比,人類歷史是極其短暫的。但自我中心主義的盛行,卻使人類妄想成為自然的操縱者。 We attempt to transform the Earth into a massive construction site. But aside from manufacturing an artificial, mechanical world, can we ever create majestic mountains, or forge vast rivers and oceans?試圖將地球改造為一個巨大的施工現場,除了製造一個人工的機械世界,我們能製造出崇山峻嶺,製造出江河湖海嗎? We can plant lawns, but can we grow a wild savanna? We can generate electricity, but can it ever compare to the boundless energy provided by the sun?我們可以種植草坪,但能夠種植出草原嗎?我們可以發電,但能夠與太陽提供的能量相比嗎? We decide the fate of animals and plants based solely on our own selfish needs. Driven by modern factory farming, animals are confined to cage-like cells from birth to death, pumped with hormones just to reach the dinner table faster.我們還根據自我需求來決定動植物的命運。在現代化的飼養場,家禽從生到死都被固定在牢籠似的方寸之地,吞吃含有激素的飼料,只是為了讓牠們儘快走上人類的餐桌。 As a result, humans end up indirectly consuming those very synthetic chemicals.結果是讓人類間接吞吃那些合成飼料。 To maximize crop yields, we manufacture and dump massive amounts of pesticides. In the end, what have we truly gained?為了糧食豐收,我們大量製造並使用殺蟲劑,且不說由此造下的殺業,我們最後又得到了什麼? The harvest seems abundant, but it has become a slow-acting poison tainted by chemicals. We are forced to consume these toxins daily just to survive.糧食似乎多了,但都是被農藥污染過的慢性毒藥,結果是我們為了生存不得不每天服毒。 As medical research deepens, we develop more and more antibiotics. Yet, humanity has not moved further away from disease.隨著醫學研究的深入,我們研製出越來越多的抗生素,但人類並沒有在和細菌的對抗中遠離疾病。 In fact, new drug-resistant bacteria constantly emerge, engaging in a relentless, never-ending race against us.事實上,新的耐藥菌不斷出現,無休止地與人類展開競賽。 We believe that, armed with technology, we can remake nature at will and establish a brand-new set of laws for development.我們以為,有了科技的武裝,就可以隨意地改造自然,就可以創造出一整套嶄新的發展規律。 While we intoxicate ourselves within a comfortable living environment, do we ever consider that this comfort is only temporary, and that greater catastrophes lie ahead?當我們陶醉於舒適的生活環境時,可曾想到,安樂只是暫時的,更大的災難還在後面。 If we cannot respect the laws of nature and harmonize with its principles, we will ultimately push both humanity and the planet into a vicious cycle of mutual destruction.如果我們不能尊重自然的規律,不能順應自然的法則,最終只能將人類和自然共同推向不斷毀滅的惡性循環之中。

    【菩提好聲音 #33】欲望就是我們的永動機 Desire: Our Perpetual Motion Machine

    The reason desire possesses such immense "energy" is that it is always in a state of continuous expansion. Unless we uproot it from the core, it will endlessly drive us to serve it.欲望之所以會有如此的「能量」,就在於它永遠都處在發展的進程中,如果不從根本上對治它,剷除它,它就會無休止地驅使我們為之效力。 Modern people deeply value personal freedom, often complaining about the constraints of environment or family. In reality, even without external pressure, our minds may still lack true freedom.現代人非常重視個人的自由,我們總是在抱怨環境的束縛,抱怨家庭的束縛,事實上,即使外在環境沒有給我們製造任何壓力,我們的心靈也未必能夠獲得真正的自由。 Because desire is omnipresent, we are often controlled by it unconsciously, surrendering our own sovereignty. It is also endless—the moment one desire is temporarily satisfied, a new one follows with higher demands.因為欲望是無所不在的,我們往往在不知不覺中就會被它控制,將自己的主權拱手相讓。欲望又是永無止境的,一個欲望得到了暫時的滿足,新的欲望又會接踵而至,向我們提出更多的要求。 When we have a thousand dollars, we want ten thousand, and we must toil for the remaining nine thousand. When we have ten thousand, we want a hundred thousand, and we slave away for the ninety thousand.當我們有一千塊的時候,就希望得到一萬塊,然後我們就必須為完成這九千塊的目標努力;當我們有一萬塊的時候,就會希望得到十萬塊,然後我們又必須為完成這九萬塊的目標努力。 Strangely, the more we possess, the more we feel we lack. A person with a thousand dollars feels they only lack nine thousand; but a person with ten thousand feels they lack ninety thousand.常常是我們擁有得越多,反而感覺自己缺少得越多。一個只有一千塊的人,認為自己只缺九千塊;可一個有一萬塊的人,就會認為自己還缺九萬塊。 Humanity once dreamed of inventing a perpetual motion machine. In truth, desire is our perpetual motion machine.人類曾經夢想製造出永動機,其實,欲望就是我們的永動機。 For an individual, this lifelong desire ends with the death of the physical body. But for human society as a whole, individual desires are skyrocketing with economic growth, fueled further by a massive, increasing population.具體到每個人,這一生的欲望會隨著色身的消亡而結束。但對於整個人類社會來說,一方面,個人欲望正隨著經濟發展而飛速增長;一方面,人口遞增又製造出了龐大的基數。 Therefore, this machine driven by desire will never stop; instead, it runs at an even more powerful wattage.所以,這台以欲望作為動力的機器,非但永遠不會停止,還會以更強勁的功率運轉。 In modern society, we quantify everything with numbers: per capita income, GDP, and so on. If desire could be measured by similar indicators, I believe our world's total desire today would far exceed any other era in history.在現代社會中,習慣以數字來總結一切:人均收入、國民生產總值等等。如果欲望也能以相應的量化指標進行衡量,我相信,不論是人均欲望還是世界欲望總值,都遠遠超過了以往各個時代。 And what corresponds to this rapidly growing desire? It is the depletion of Earth’s resources and an ecosystem that has already lost its balance.而和這急劇增長的欲望所對應的又是什麼呢?是地球上日益貧乏的資源儲備,是業已失去平衡的生態環境。 Even the most numb individual cannot fail to see the polluted rivers or feel the toxic air. If this continues, our wealth will become water without a source, and our daily lives will be fatally impacted. What will be left for us to drink? What will be left for us to breathe?但即使再麻木的人,附近河流的污染、空氣的污染也是感同身受的。長此以往,不僅我們所嚮往的財富會成為無本之木,即使我們的日常生活,也會受到致命的影響。我們還能喝什麼?我們還能呼吸什麼? The Earth is our only home. If we cannot effectively moderate our desires and blindly extract from nature, we are only digging our own graves.地球是我們賴以生存的唯一家園,皮之不存,毛將焉附?如果我們不能對欲望進行有效的節制,一味地向自然索取,只能落得自掘墳墓的下場。

    【菩提好聲音 #32】善有善報是永不兌現的許諾嗎?Is "Good Deeds Bring Good Rewards" an Empty Promise?

    The Buddhist view of causality spans three lifetimes: past, present, and future. Our current life is a continuation of the past, and death is merely the decay of this physical form, not the end of life.佛教的因果觀為三世論,即生命有過去、現在、未來。我們現有的人生是過去生命的延續,而死亡也只是這一期色身的衰敗,並不意味著生命的終結。 Conversely, materialism posits a single lifetime with neither past nor future. This "extinctionist" view easily leaves people with nothing to fear, driving utilitarianism, hedonism, and rampant selfishness.唯物論者則是一世論,生命既沒有過去也沒有未來。這種「人死如燈滅」的觀點,很容易使人無所畏懼,並導致享樂主義和自私自利的氾濫。 In today’s globalized world, we desperately need a viable global ethic. Buddhism offers a practical and inclusive framework by affirming that self-interest and altruism are fundamentally unified.在當今這個全球一體化的社會,我們更需要尋找一種可行的全球道德規範。而佛教則是立足於現實人生並具有包容性的宗教,更使人容易接受的是,佛教認為自利與利他是統一的。 Ordinary people possess ego and naturally calculate interest. If we pit profit against righteousness, it becomes difficult to uphold moral beliefs.凡夫難免有我執,因而做每件事都會有利益的考量。如果將利與義對立起來,很難使人堅守這一道德信條。 Buddhism defines moral behavior through the lens of long-term benefit. A truly moral act must be genuinely beneficial to both oneself and others, yielding not only immediate returns but long-term rewards across lifetimes.佛教道德的可行性更強,因為它是結合利益對道德行為進行界定。衡量一種行為是否符合道德規範,就要看它是否對自他雙方都真正有益。同時,它不僅能使我們獲得眼前利益,更能使我們獲得長遠利益。 Many feel that helping others requires sacrificing personal gain. But Buddhism holds that any act benefiting others inevitably benefits oneself. Though it requires temporary giving, this virtue brings hundreds of folds of returns to your future life.在很多人的感覺中,利益他人似乎必須以損失個人利益為前提。而佛教卻認為,凡是有利於別人的行為,必然有利於自己。當然,可能需要暫時付出一些,但這一善行會給未來生命帶來百千倍的回報。 Like a seed planted, it will bear abundant fruit. The result may mature in this life, the next, or even later. When conditions ripen, the reward is certain; no effort is ever in vain.就像播下的一粒種子,會結出累累碩果。結果可能在今生,也可能在來生或更久,因緣成熟時一定會得到回報,正所謂功不唐捐。 Yet, some might wonder: What if "good rewards for good deeds" is just an empty comfort—a promise that never gets cashed? Ordinary minds always demand instant results to believe.或許有人會對此產生懷疑:萬一善有善報只是空洞的安慰,是永不兌現的許諾呢?對於凡夫來說,總是希望馬上見到結果才肯確信。 In truth, the results do not require such a long wait. A virtuous deed immediately nourishes the wholesome seeds within us. Therefore, in the very moment of giving, our soul benefits. This is the most crucial interpretation of karmic retribution.其實,結果並非都需要等那麼久。善行能使我們內心善的種子得到滋養,所以在付出的當下,就會使我們的心靈得益。這正是佛教對於因果報應的更重要的詮釋。 Thus, when practicing kindness, we need not obsess over external rewards—those are merely secondary by-products. The true benefit lies in the perfection of our character and the elevation of our quality of life, an outcome that is perfectly synchronized with the act itself.所以,我們在行善時不必關注外在的報應,那只是行善的副產品。真正的利益,在於我們自身人格的完善和生命素質的提升,而這結果與行善是同步的,是當下就能感受到的。 Whatever we do changes the mind accordingly; however much we do, that is exactly how much we transform.我們做什麼,心靈就會有什麼改變;做多少,就改變多少。

    【菩提好聲音 #31】你我的寶藏 The Treasure Within You and Me

    Contemplating the leisure, opportunity, significance, and rarity of human life is an evaluation of our current existence.思維暇滿、義大、難得,是對我們現有的身份進行評估。 What is the true value of this human body? Most people use it merely to make a living or chase pleasure, even becoming slaves to this body and mind, busy with food and clothing all their lives—living simply to survive, and surviving simply to live.這一人身究竟蘊含多少價值?一般人只是以此謀生,以此享樂,甚至成為這個身心的奴隸,一輩子都在為它的衣食忙碌,活著是為了生存,生存是為了活著。 Or, at best, they use it to accumulate wealth and win fame. But these do not last. When death arrives, no fame or fortune can be taken with us, nor can it be used to bargain with death.再或者,也不過是用來積聚財富,博得功名,但這些也是不長久的。一旦死亡到來,任何名利都無法帶走,無法用來和死神交換條件。 From the perspective of the Dharma, however, this human identity is a vast treasure. This is because all sentient beings possess the same primordial nature as Buddhas and Bodhisattvas; it is just that this latent quality has not yet been awakened.從佛法的觀點來看,這個身份卻是巨大的寶藏。因為一切眾生都具有和佛菩薩相同的生命層面,只是這種潛在品質尚未產生作用而已。 As the Nirvana Sutra states: "The Buddha-nature of all sentient beings is covered by various afflictions, just as a poor person has a treasure of pure gold but cannot see it."正如《涅槃經》所說:「一切眾生所有佛性,為諸煩惱之所覆蔽,如彼貧人有真金藏不能得見。」 We harbor a treasure without knowing it. Instead, we beg for scraps in the world, wandering endlessly through the Six Realms of Rebirth.我們懷有寶藏而不自知,反而四處乞討,流轉六道。 How do we unlock these latent qualities and ultimately awaken? The basic premise is having a human body, specifically a human life endowed with leisure and opportunity.怎樣才能開發這些潛在品質並最終成佛?基本的前提,就是具備人身,而且是有暇圓滿的人身。 From this perspective, the value of human life is as immense as the value of enlightenment itself.從這個角度來說,成佛的價值有多大,人身的價值就有多大。 This identity is not only of immense value, but also hard to obtain and easy to lose. While people may feel that life is easily lost due to unexpected tragedies, they might not agree that a human birth is truly rare.這個身份不僅價值巨大,而且難得易失。或許人們對人身易失還多少有些感覺,因為現實中確有太多致命的意外,太多飛來的橫禍。但對人身難得卻未必認同。 With billions of people on Earth, giving birth seems easy, and being human doesn't feel like a rare privilege.現在世界有這麼多人口,生個孩子也很容易,這一身份似乎並不難得,不值得視同拱璧。 Yet from a cosmic perspective, compared to the infinite number of beings in the Six Realms, the chance of being born as a human is infinitesimally small.但從宏觀來看,相對於無量無邊的六道眾生,生而為人的機會實在是微乎其微的。 Having been fortunate enough to obtain this human form, we must cherish and make good use of it, so as not to live this life in vain.我們有幸感得人身,唯有珍惜它,善用它,才不辜負此生。
