    Pit Happens

This is what theologians call providence, the hidden but active work of God moving through ordinary people, unexpected detours, and even the worst betrayals to accomplish purposes far greater than any of us can see in the moment. We explore how unchecked bitterness and sin compound quietly over time, how family patterns can explain our struggles without being allowed to define our futures, and why the destination God has set for us, conforming us to the image of Christ as described in Romans 8:28-29, is worth trusting even when the details of the journey make no sense.     Don't be like Joseph, believe like Joseph.

    What happens when the story of our lives seems to have no trace of God in it?     Making A Big Church Feel Small

That's a sobering reality when we think about people walking through our church doors for the first time, carrying their doubts, their pain, and their questions about God. The biblical theme of welcoming strangers runs throughout Scripture, from God's commands in Numbers about treating sojourners with kindness to the New Testament qualification that church leaders must be hospitable. When we were enslaved in sin, Christ welcomed us—not because we had it all together, but precisely because we didn't. This same spirit of radical welcome should characterize how we treat everyone who enters our community. The phrase 'the gospel is offensive, nothing else should be' captures this beautifully: people can leave challenged by the truth of their need for a Savior, but they should never leave feeling unwanted, unseen, or judged by how we treated them. Discipleship truly does start at hello, because if we won't look someone in the eye and learn their name, why would they trust us with their deepest struggles? Every act of hospitality—from serving coffee to greeting at the door—is a declaration that God sees people and wants them in His family.
