The Trinity Isn’t Hard to Understand. It’s Impossible. | Episode 35

Most Christians can say the word "Trinity." Very few can explain it without accidentally teaching a heresy the church condemned seventeen hundred years ago. Research found that 73% of American evangelicals think that "Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God." In other words, 73% of American evangelicals believe in a heresy. So in this episode, Pastors Jason Parish, Joshua Bingle, and Howie Smith join host John Rowa to do two things. First, we define the doctrine and show why every easy analogy breaks. There is nothing in creation that is one being in three persons, which means every created analogy falls into a ditch. Second, we deal with the claim that the councils hijacked the faith. The creeds did not invent the Trinity and the bishops did not vote it into existence. They asserted what the church already believed and already confessed. And if you argue otherwise, you are claiming something bigger than you may realize: that the Holy Spirit was not strong enough to keep the truth of his word and the future of his church intact. This is a DOGMA conversation. Because what you believe about God bleeds into your marriage, your workplace, and how you treat the people around you. Getting God right matters more than you realize. The Trinity is not hard to understand. It is impossible. So we confess it. Spiritual Gifts Aren't Weird... Disorder Is. | Episode 34

The Bible says the Holy Spirit gives gifts to ordinary Christians. Some are easy to accept. Teaching. Serving. Giving. Showing mercy. Others sound strange to modern ears. Healing the sick. Speaking in tongues. Prophecy. Miracles. A lot of Christians quietly file that second group under things that either do not happen anymore or only happen to people who are a little unhinged. But all of these gifts are in the Bible. They are described plainly, given to normal believers, and accompanied by instructions for how to use them. Pastors Jason Parrish, Howie Smith, and Josh Bingle join host John Rowa to work through what the spiritual gifts actually are, whether they have ceased, who receives them and why, and how to pursue them without either dismissing the Spirit or chasing spectacle. We also gets practical. Six questions to ask before you share a word with anyone. What to do the first time someone tells you “God told me to tell you.” Why order is not the enemy of the Spirit. And how an ordinary Christian actually discovers the gift they have been given. Why Christians Fall for Conspiracy Theories | Episode 30

Flat earth. The moon landing. Who really did it. There's an entire industry built to monetize your curiosity, and it's working. But Paul had a phrase for this two thousand years ago, and it wasn't a compliment: myths and endless genealogies.   But the Bible never claims all conspiracies are fake. Scripture records dozens of them. The warning isn't about whether plots exist. It's about what happens to you when you chase them. You get afraid. You start bearing false witness. And you become useless to the people who actually need you.   The enemy wants you distracted!   Pastor Jason Parrish, Pastor Josh Bingle, Pastor Howie Smith, and host, John Rowa sit down for what turns into one the most pastoral conversations we've had on the podcast.   Trust breaking down. Relationships turning transactional. Suspicion becoming normal. Truth becoming negotiable. And then God feeling very far away.   This one isn't a debunking. It's a plea to stay focused on advancing God's work.   Text ANALOG to 55498 for more info and the Weekly Growth Guide that includes the latest sermon, podcast episode, daily Bible reading, and more.   -- The Analog Gospel is a podcast about Christian living, theology, and culture. The Biggest Perpetrator of Church Hurt is YOU | Episode 29

Lots of people talk about church hurt online. But there's almost nobody talking about who’s actually doing it. The conversation runs one direction: institutions wound individuals. Pastors abuse, systems fail, people get crushed. All of that happens, and it’s serious, and we’re not minimizing it. But here’s what doesn’t get said. Most church hurt isn’t coming from a platform. It’s coming from a pew. We gossip, offend, and hurt each other because we are all still… people. And ask any pastor (and their children) how much the people they lead have hurt them and you’d be shocked… but you’ll never see that on a documentary. This episode is not a defense of bad leaders. It’s a challenge to the people who make up the body of Christ. Pastor Jason Parrish is joined by Pastor Erica Parrish, Pastor Joshua Bingle, and John Rowa to talk about church hurt like you've never heard it before. We get into: what separates formation from offense, why correction always stings and why that isn’t evidence of anything nefarious, what to actually do when you’ve been hurt, and how to stop being the person who does the hurting. -- Text ANALOG to 55498 for more info and the Weekly Growth Guide that includes the latest sermon, podcast episode, daily Bible reading, and more. -- The Analog Gospel is a podcast about Christian living, theology, and culture.
