EPISODE 30: ARCHIE

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to MORGAN TALKS COMICS! This week, we're looking at a brand new (old) comic - ARCHIE, from ONI PRESS. ARCHIE is an all American boy, who has been around in comics since the 1940s, and has spun off into TV shows and feature films... I'm sure you've heard of SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH? This is a fun, light hearted comic, looking at stereotypical teenage life, and all that that entails. The art is bright and colourful, and it's a great read. We also go off on a tangent to discuss the reality of what's going on in America, and the world around us... what do you think of the current state of affairs?

EPISODE 29: GIANT ROBOT HELLBOY RETURNS

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to MORGAN TALKS COMICS... After a short break, we're back, and looking at the 2 issue miniseries GIANT ROBOT HELLBOY RETURNS, from MIKE MIGNOLA, DUNCAN FEGREDO and DAVE STEWART, published by DARK HORSE COMICS. This is clearly a love letter to the big kaiju films of the 1960s, especially GODZILLA and MEACH GODZILLA, of which I'm a huge fan. It's a big inter dimensional adventure with GIANT ROBOT HELLBOY facing off against some creepy insects. Enjoy!

EPISODE 28: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ISSUE 1

Send us Fan Mail WELCOME BACK! This week, we've kinda gone full circle, as we look at issue 1 of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, the parody of which, ADOLESCENT RADIOACTIVE BLACK BELT HAMSTERS, we looked at in our very first episode. TURTLES are probably a title a lot of people know about, as the characters were licensed for cartoons, video games, toys and films, and were pretty much everywhere in the 1990s. TURTLES are still popular now, but probably not to the level they were back then. So we dive into the history of the TURTLES, talk about their creators KEVIN EASTMAN and PETER LAIRD, and about the history of comics at that time. Enjoy the warts and all approach, and let us know what you thought!

EPISODE 27: USAGI YOJIMBO - KAITO '84

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to MORGAN TALKS COMICS... This week, we're looking at USAGI YOJIMBO - KAITO '84 by ZACK ROSENBERG and JARED CULLUM, published by DARK HORSE COMICS. This is a five part series looking at one of the descendants of STAN SAKAI'S USGAI YOJIMBO (SAMURAI RABBIT), who is a street criminal in 1984 Osaka in Japan. This is great fun spin-off from USAGI, with references to familiar characters and Japanese history, as seen in the original USAGI series. It's beautifully painted by JARED CULLUM, which makes a nice change on the artwork front.

EPISODE 26: CONCRETE - STARS OVER SAND

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to MORGAN TALKS COMICS... This week, we're looking at a new title, CONCRETE - STARS OVER SAND, by PAUL CHADWICK, published by DARK HORSE COMICS. CONCRETE was one of DARK HORSE'S first titles, and featured in their anthology title, DARK HORSE PRESENTS, which was originally published in ball and white, showing off CHADWICK'S beautiful line work. We also talk about the early history of independent comics, and how DARK HORSE was a home for creator owned titles like CONCRETE. Enjoy!

EPISODE 25: LEONIDE THE VAMPYR - THE HOUSE OF YONDA

Send us Fan Mail WELCOME BACK! After a few weeks away with nasty colds and life getting in the way, we are back with a new episode. This week, we're looking at LEONIDE THE VAMPYR - THE HOUSE OF YONDA by MIKE MIGNOLA , RACHEL ARAGNO and DAVE STEWART from DARK HORSE COMICS. It's a simple little tale of vampires, haunted plants and a lovesick doctor, who falls for the wrong girl. Short but sweet this week, as we're getting back into the swing of things, but enjoy this spooky little tale!

EPISODE 24: MAGICAL CHARACTER RABBIT

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back to MORGAN TALKS COMICS... This week, we're looking at a small press comic MAGICAL CHARACTER RABBIT by KINOKO EVANS. a lovely little two tone comic about (no surprise) a rabbit who is a magician. This comic was gifted to me by a good friend along with other small press comics, as they know how much I love indie and small press comics. It's a charming tale of MAGI looking for a spell for the Winter Solstice, drawn in a beautiful brush and ink style, and printer in tones of purple and orange. We also have a lively discussion about how comics are put together, their history, and how they can be used to teach others. It's interesting to hear how two opposing views of storytelling see comics and cartoons. Enjoy the show, and let us know what you think!
