    Fertility Journey - Ilina Gorgievski: EP 42

    For 10 years, Ilina Gorgievski has been navigating a fertility journey that has asked more of her than most people will ever see. Known to many Australians through two seasons of Big Miracles, Ilina opened one of the most vulnerable parts of her life to millions of viewers. But unlike many of the stories we’re used to seeing on television, hers didn’t end with the outcome everyone was hoping for. At just 28, Ilina discovered she had severe endometriosis and needed both fallopian tubes removed, making IVF her only path to pregnancy. What followed was years of fertility treatment, back-to-back surgeries, enormous physical and emotional challenges, and a medical emergency during her final surgery that saw her heart stop. Somewhere inside a journey that could have consumed her, Ilina found something else: purpose. Today, through Surviving Fertility and her work within the fertility and IVF industry, she mentors and supports others walking a path she understands intimately. In this episode, we talk about the complexity of celebrating someone else’s positive pregnancy test while still carrying the unanswered questions of your own story, the impact infertility can have on identity and relationships, and what happens when the future you planned doesn’t arrive on your timeline.
