Tonight, we begin the extraordinary life of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him — from the quiet streets of Mecca, where an orphaned child grew into the man known as Al-Ameen, the Trustworthy, to the stillness of the Cave of Hira, where the first words of revelation changed the course of history. This is the story of beginnings. Before the migrations, the battles, the treaties, and the great victories, there was a young boy who knew loss early. His father passed away before he was born. His mother died while he was still a child. His grandfather became his protector, and then he too was taken from him. Yet through every change, Muhammad grew in patience, dignity, compassion, and honesty. As a young shepherd beneath the wide Arabian sky, he learned gentleness and responsibility. As a merchant, he became known throughout Mecca for his truthfulness. As a peacemaker, he prevented bloodshed between rival tribes. And as a husband, he found love, loyalty, and refuge in Khadijah, the woman who would become his greatest source of comfort when the weight of revelation first descended upon him. But Muhammad’s heart was never fully at ease with the world around him. Mecca was filled with idols, tribal pride, injustice, and neglect of the weak. So he began withdrawing from the noise. High above the city, inside the lonely Cave of Hira, he searched for truth in silence. And then, one night, the silence was broken. “Read.” The angel Jibril appeared. A trembling Muhammad descended the mountain and hurried home. “Cover me.” Khadijah wrapped him in a cloak and reminded him of the goodness of his character. Soon, Waraqa ibn Nawfal confirmed what had begun. The man known to Mecca as Al-Ameen had been chosen to carry a message that would reach far beyond the mountains surrounding his city. What began with one frightened heart in a dark cave would eventually awaken nations.
