MoJo Motivation™ Season 2 Episode 3: Bonus Episode From the Floor of the 2026 PRINTING United Expo in Las Vegas with Expo Organizers Carly O’Neil and Josh Caruth

Send us Fan Mail If you’ve ever been to a trade show and wondered what goes on behind the scenes before and during it, you’re definitely not alone. Fahim, Seema, and Marty have done their fair share of event preparation and production, but their events pale in comparison to the PRINTING United Expo–the world’s largest print trade show, class space, demonstration hub, and all-around wonder.  With over one million square feet of the Las Vegas Convention Center taken over by the event and 27,000 registered attendees, there was plenty happening both on and off the show floor to keep PRINTING United Alliance’s Carly O’Neill, Josh Carruth, and the outstanding Expo team busy. Yet, outstanding humans that they are, they not only made time for us to sit down with them to do a season two bonus follow-up episode to their popular season one episode (MoJo Motivation™ Season 1 Episode 5), but they did so on the Expo floor, in a special podcasting booth set aside just for the occasion.  Carly and Josh truly rolled out the red carpet to welcome us as premier print consultants and proud members of the PRINTING United Alliance, and we are so very grateful. Notes: Carly O’Neill is the Communications and Content Coordinator for the PRINTING United Alliance and Joshua “Josh” Carruth is the Executive Vice President, Expositions, for the PRINTING United Alliance. Episode copyright 2026 Social Media & Design Coaches LLC, dba AYM High Consultants, all rights reserved. Steve Dick’s Bio: Let me introduce myself. My name is Steven K Dick II (my parents weren’t real creative), and I own Box King - Pack, Ship, Print in Springfield, Ohio. I stumbled into the mail and business center world in 2006 almost by accident. I had rented a Penske moving truck from the previous owner of Box King - Pack, Ship, Print and when I went to return the truck, the Penske computers were down. Waiting on the computers to come back up, the owner shared with me that he was thinking about selling Box King (just Box King, the “Pack, Ship, Print” would come later). Having done shipping previously for another company, this opportunity to become a business owner hit with perfect timing. My mom and I purchased Box King in March of 2006. Located in a small space in a strip mall shopping center, we had our work cut out for us! The basic services offered were shipping with FedEx, UPS, and DHL, packaging and packing supplies, and Penske truck rental. Although I had a lot of management experience, I didn’t have any ownership experience. It was definitely growth through trial and error. The previous owner had a lot of loyal customers that were very disappointed he was leaving, and very skeptical of us taking over. So we made changes slowly, not wanting to rock the boat. We started winning over current customers and gaining new ones. Marketing was minimal and we relied largely on word of mouth.  Over the next year, I came to realize I wanted to offer copying as a service to my customers. I went to talk to the local printer I was getting my business forms done with. When I asked about advice on what type of copier to buy, they said that they have extra machines here, so why not let them one color and one black and white printer in our shop, and then profit share? I didn’t realize it then, but I was just given the keys to a Ferrari and told all I had to do was buy the gas! Not that the machines were great (they weren’t) but the opportunity was great. My printers were located in a run down warehouse location and they shuffled all the walk-in type clients to me, allowing us to focus on the higher-volume business customers. Over the next couple of years, I was able to learn the basics of the print for pay industry on their dime.  Most areas of our business were growing. In early 2009, we had a decision to make. Our lease was coming up and we had to decide if we wanted to stay where we were or try to relocate. We looked at multiple locations, going back and forth between the idea of trying to find one with less rent (but less desirable area), or one in a higher traffic area (but much more rent). No real solutions. We talked about it with our print partners and an idea came out. A much larger space was available in our current shopping center and the property owners were dealing to keep us from leaving.  Our printers liked our retail presence so much that they proposed dissolving their business and joining forces with us in this new larger location. So in May of 2009, we opened in our new, larger location as Box King - Pack, Ship, Print. We have been blessed to have growth year over year. I owe a lot of that success to the advice given me by other store owners, and the resources that AMBC has afforded me.
