    EP 32: Is Your Rifle More Accurate Than You Are?

    Is your rifle more accurate than you are? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy try to separate rifle accuracy from shooter accuracy. It starts with Rob's 6 PRS Moses, Slimer. Rob regularly shoots extremely small groups with the rifle—but Jeromy and Chaz have both managed to shoot even smaller groups with Rob's own gun. That raises an uncomfortable question: when a rifle isn't performing the way we expect, why are we so quick to blame the rifle? We discuss what MOA and sub-MOA performance really mean, three-shot versus five-shot groups, how many groups you should shoot before judging a rifle, factory rifle accuracy, ammunition selection, custom rifles, and whether a true quarter-inch rifle might be more capable than the person behind it.     EP 31: Accuracy vs BC: Which Actually Matters More at Long Range?

    Would you give up accuracy for a higher ballistic coefficient? That's the debate in this episode of Beyond the Target. Rob and Jeromy start with a simple hypothetical: the same rifle has one load with a lower-BC bullet that consistently shoots 0.5 MOA and another with a higher-BC bullet that shoots 1 MOA. Rob chooses accuracy. Jeromy chooses BC—or BROWN: Ballistic Retention Over Whatever's Needed. From there, things get complicated. We discuss what higher BC actually gives you, including reduced wind drift, better velocity retention, longer supersonic range, and shorter flight time. But a high ballistic coefficient doesn't automatically mean a particular rifle will shoot that bullet well. So how much accuracy should you be willing to sacrifice? We work through 0.1 MOA differences, 0.5 vs 1.1 MOA, hunting inside 500 yards, precision shooting at 1,000+, wind-reading errors, velocity differences, SD, factory ammunition, handloading, and the point where a higher-BC projectile starts providing a meaningful advantage.     EP 30: Are Shooters Too Obsessed With Velocity? Speed vs Accuracy

    Are shooters too obsessed with velocity? "How fast is it?" is one of the first questions we hear when shooters start talking about rifles and handloads. But should it be? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy break down velocity vs accuracy and ask whether chasing another 50–100 FPS is actually worth the tradeoffs. More velocity can mean flatter trajectory, less wind drift, shorter flight time, and more retained velocity downrange. But depending on how you get there, it can also mean more powder, recoil, heat, barrel wear, pressure, and potentially shorter brass life. So what happens if your rifle shoots better slower? We compare hypothetical 7 PRC loads at 2,850 and 2,950 FPS, look at actual ballistic-calculator differences at 1,000 yards, compare BC against raw velocity, and discuss how all of it changes depending on whether you're shooting competition, hunting, or simply trying to shoot the smallest groups possible.     EP 29: Zombie Apocalypse: You Can Only Take 2 Guns… What Are You Choosing?

    The zombie apocalypse has started. You have two days before it reaches you. You can only take two guns. What are you grabbing? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy tackle the classic gun-owner hypothetical: What firearms would you actually want during a zombie apocalypse? But instead of immediately choosing anything we want, we start with a much harder scenario. You can only use the guns and ammunition you actually own right now. That means ammo stockpiles, magazine capacity, suppressors, reliability, portability, optics, and even how easy a cartridge might be to find suddenly matter a lot more than simply choosing the most powerful rifle.     EP 28: The $3,000 Rifle Challenge | What Would YOU Build?

    You have exactly $3,000 to build an entire rifle setup from scratch. What do you buy? In this episode of Beyond the Target, Rob and Jeromy take on the $3,000 Rifle Challenge. Each of us secretly put together a complete rifle setup—including the rifle, optic, mount, rings, bipod/support, and accessories—then revealed our choices to each other. The twist is that we weren't building for exactly the same purpose. Jeromy wanted a rifle that was 60% long range and 40% hunting, while Rob built primarily for shooting beyond 1,000 yards with enough versatility to still hunt if needed.
