    019. The Gate of Clouds: Writers Are Always Becoming

The Gate of Clouds writers gather for another wide-ranging creative conversation about what it means to grow as a writer—and how the stories themselves change as their creators do. The group reflects on looking back at old writing, the role education and experience play in developing a voice, and why a writer’s evolution may never really end. From there, the conversation moves inside the developing Gate of Clouds novels: creating believable characters, writing grief, moving from rural Wisconsin to Milwaukee, navigating unfamiliar environments, and finding the small moments that make fictional lives feel real. The writers also wrestle with one of the universe’s most unusual challenges: how do you integrate music into a novel without simply mentioning songs? They explore ways the artists of the Gate of Clouds universe can become part of the atmosphere of the stories—playing in coffee shops, spinning on records in Paris apartments, accompanying private rituals, triggering memories, and becoming intertwined with love, loss, and identity. Along the way, there are conversations about AI companions, loneliness, cockroaches, fireflies, writing rituals, haunted Milwaukee bars, and the strange places creative research can lead. A candid look inside a universe being built in real time—and the writers who are evolving alongside it. 018. Growth, Vulnerability, and The Messiest Kind with Saylor Knight and Liz Rosales

Editor Liz Rosales sits down with returning poet Saylor Knight to pull back the curtain on the deeply vulnerable process of shaping her debut collection, "The Messiest Kind." Centered around the theme of rebirth and a structural journey from darkness to light, Saylor shares what poetry means to her as a medium for artistic self-expression and processing hardship compared to traditional journaling. The two discuss the lasting, atmospheric imagery of Edgar Allan Poe, how Saylor works to eliminate vagueness to build a stronger connection with her audience, and the collaborative author-editor dynamic that transformed her work through honest feedback, structural edits, and stanza reconstructions. Listeners will also get to hear exclusive live readings of two of her poems: the heavily revised "Four-Leaf Clover" and her brand-new, whimsical love poem, "My Everything" Guests: Saylor Knight Host: Liz Rosales Producer: Assi Hann Website: https://bluebyronbooks.com/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bluebyronbooks_ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bluebyronbooks/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61586497322063
