Harry Bosch vs. The Poet: Revisiting The Narrows

With a new Harry Bosch novel on the horizon, I’m going back to 2004 to revisit what might be my favorite Michael Connelly novel: The Narrows. Picking up threads from The Poet, Blood Work, A Darkness More Than Night and Lost Light, The Narrows is Connelly’s connected universe firing on all cylinders. Harry Bosch is now a private investigator when the death of Terry McCaleb pulls him into the hunt for one of Connelly’s most memorable villains — Robert Backus, aka The Poet. I break down why this story works so well, from Bosch butting heads with the FBI and joining forces with Rachel Walling to the fantastic final confrontation in the Los Angeles storm drains. I also get into Harry’s relationships with Eleanor Wish and Rachel, the Amsterdam backstory, and why The Narrows remains such a great showcase for everything I love about Harry Bosch. Plus: Team Eleanor or Team Rachel? I may have changed sides. And with The Hollow coming, what might be next for an older Harry Bosch? ⚠️ Spoiler warning: This episode contains major spoilers for The Narrows and discusses events from several earlier Michael Connelly novels. Breaking down AI with Denis Boulanger, Founder New Age Consulting

How worried should we really be about AI — and should we be more concerned about the technology itself or the people using it? Kevin is joined by Denis Boulanger, founder of New Age Consulting, to talk about Netflix’s AI documentary, why some of the people closest to AI are sounding alarms, and what the real-world risks may look like long before we get anywhere near a Terminator-style scenario. Denis breaks down how large language models actually work, the difference between open- and closed-weight AI models, and why AI presents challenges that are fundamentally different from traditional software. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Kevin and Denis also dig into the enormous potential of AI — from everyday productivity to building software and completely rethinking the traditional consulting experience. Denis shares how New Age Consulting is using AI to create faster, more customized experiences for clients and offers some simple ways anyone can start experimenting with AI today. Is Netflix’s AI documentary a fair portrayal of where AI stands today? How large language models actually work Open-weight vs. closed-weight AI — and why it matters Why scams, deepfakes, hacking and human misuse may be the most immediate threats Why Denis remains optimistic about AI How AI could transform the consulting industry Moving beyond PowerPoints to customized client tools and portals How businesses should decide where AI actually belongs Easy ways to experiment with AI without getting overwhelmed Find Denis at: NAC Strategy Websitewhere AI appDenis on LinkedInFollow me on: Youtube: Kevin's Catch-up ChannelInstagram: Instagram FeedApple Podcasts: Kevin's Catch-up POD Email me at kevinscatchup@gmail.com
