    Midlife Elevated with Stephanie Traver

There is no bear. But your nervous system doesn't know that. It only knows the five a.m. workout and the back-to-back calls and the school pickup and the soccer practice and the dinner that still has to get on the table, and it responds the way it was built to respond, which is to flood you and brace you and shut down everything that isn't survival. Desire is one of the things it shuts down. Not because it left. Because there is no room for it to be here. Stephanie Traver is a women's health nurse practitioner and a Menopause Society certified practitioner, and she has spent more than twenty years listening to women describe exactly this and be told it was nothing. She built her practice, Vital, for the ones who arrived exhausted and disconnected and half-convinced they were losing their minds. She says the diagnostic tool nobody uses is the simplest one there is: listen to women, and then believe them. She is also one of my dearest friends, which is why this conversation goes where it goes. We talk about the estrogen veil, and what surfaces when it finally lifts. About perimenopausal rage as a nervous system reading danger rather than a character flaw. About why the desire you had while you were dating was never spontaneous, and what actually opens that channel now. About progesterone being the first hormone to leave the party, and the three a.m. blood sugar crash, and what to ask for on a lab panel years before you think you need it. And about the part nobody warned either of us about, which is that the woman you were can die while you are still living in her house. We are not fading. We are ripening. And also it IS a wrecking ball. Come sit with us.
