Courage To Fully Obey God 29-09-26.m4a

Courage – To Fully Obey God In this study in our Courage series, we look at what it means to have the courage to fully obey God — even when obedience is difficult, inconvenient, costly, or we cannot yet see how God will work things out. Looking at Genesis 22 and Abraham’s obedience, we see that Abraham responded to God without delay, negotiation or a backup plan. He trusted God even when he could not understand what God was doing. We explore how: • Full obedience is rarely convenient • Delayed obedience can become a form of resistance • Obedience requires trust when we cannot see the outcome • God’s provision is often discovered as we take the next step of faith • Our obedience is an expression of our love for Jesus • We must move from simply hearing God’s Word to actually doing it • Courage helps bridge the gap between hearing and doing • Following Jesus means denying ourselves and trusting His will above our own With Scripture from Genesis 22, Proverbs 3:5, John 14:15, Luke 22:42, Matthew 16:24 and James 1:22–25, this study challenges us to ask whether we are simply hearing God’s Word or allowing it to transform the way we live. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22 Courage to obey means trusting God before we see the provision, choosing His will over our own, and stepping forward in faith. God’s way is better than our way. #Courage #FullyObeyGod #Faith #Obedience #ChristianBibleStudy #James1 #Genesis22 #Abraham #TrustGod #HorizonChurch

    James Part two 27-09-26.m4a

Facing Both Ways | James 1:2–8 In this message, we continue our journey through James, focusing particularly on James 1:8: “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” What does it mean to be double-minded, and what does it look like in the Christian life? Using Hebrews 11:13 and 1 Peter 2:11, we are reminded that we are pilgrims and sojourners — our identity is found not in our position, achievements, possessions or reputation, but in belonging to Christ. We then turn to John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress and the story of Christian, By-Ends and his companions. Through characters such as Mr Facing-both-ways, Mr Any-thing and Mr Two-tongues, Bunyan gives us a powerful picture of the danger of trying to follow Christ while still facing the world. But the message also looks at another part of Christian’s journey — the Slough of Despond, the swamp of discouragement. Sometimes life is hard. Sometimes we feel tired, discouraged and as though we are sinking and struggling to move forward. But there is a crucial difference between struggling on the road and turning away from the road. Christian was in the swamp, but he hadn’t abandoned the journey. He was struggling, but he was still facing towards the Celestial City. The question isn’t whether we will face difficulties. The question is: Which way are we facing? When the wind changes, when following Jesus becomes difficult, costly or unpopular, will we keep going? Our hope and confidence are not in ourselves or in the circumstances around us, but in Jesus Christ. “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23 Keep pushing forward in Christ. Keep your eyes on Jesus. We are pilgrims on a journey.

    Courage to face Giants 22-09-26.m4a

Courage — Session 2: Courage to Face Giants In this second session of our Courage series, George takes us into 1 Samuel 17 and the familiar story of David and Goliath. But this study looks beyond the Sunday-school version of the story. What happens when one giant becomes so big in our eyes that we lose sight of the God who stands behind us? For 40 days Goliath taunted the armies of Israel, and fear paralysed an entire army. Yet David saw something they had lost sight of: the battle belonged to the Lord. David wasn’t the obvious choice. He wasn’t a trained soldier, and he didn’t even use Saul’s armour. He went with what God had already given him — a shepherd’s staff, a sling and five stones — and, more importantly, a confidence in the God he served. This study explores: • Seeing our giants from God’s perspective • The danger of allowing fear to become bigger than our faith • Learning to use the weapons God has given us • Why we can’t fight someone else’s battle in someone else’s armour • Remembering what God has already done • Strengthening ourselves in the Lord when everything seems lost • Seeking God’s strategy rather than relying on our own • Having courage because the battle belongs to the Lord • Looking beyond today’s battle to God’s ultimate purposes David saw the Armies of the Lord more then the giant before him. From David facing Goliath to David strengthening himself in the Lord in 1 Samuel 30, and finally to God’s command in Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and of good courage”, this is a study about where genuine courage comes from. Our strength is not in us. Our confidence is in Him. “For the battle is the Lord’s.” — 1 Samuel 17:47 Courage — Session 2: Courage to Face Giants Horizon Church — Steakout Bible Study
