Rejection, Writing and the Unseen World: A Conversation with Shattering Place Host and Author Michelle Dixon

[Spoiler alert for the novel IKONA from 1:14:00 & 1:40:00 on!] On this week’s episode of The Shattering Place Podcast, host Michelle Dixon turns the mic over to her 21-year-old daughter, Hannah, for an intimate, wide-ranging conversation that goes far beyond a traditional author interview. Unpacking the story behind her novel IKONA, Michelle traces her journey through a lifetime of creative struggle and spiritual inquiry—from a five-year-old who knew she was born to write, through early encounters with past-life memories and the devastating loss of dance, to the long stretch of rejections that almost broke her creative spirit. Guided by Hannah’s perspective as an enthusiastic and deep reader of the book, mother and daughter explore how three abandoned manuscripts, a brutal early editorial critique, and thirty years of persistence ultimately transformed rejection into one of Michelle’s greatest teachers and shaped her path toward true self-belief. Together, they dive into the rich spiritual and psychological engine running beneath IKONA, unpacking its recursive timelines, hidden geometry, and its outsider quartet of mystic, monk, thief, and prostitute. Michelle shares how art can transmit deep multidimensional truth before the mind fully grasps it, touching on themes of oneness, destiny versus free will, and the meaning of suffering. She also reflects on motherhood, therapy, and podcasting as different expressions of the same core impulse: helping others move through trauma toward awakening. Whether you are navigating your own creative perseverance, drawn to literary fiction, or seeking the story behind the book itself, this conversation offers an honest, staying look at what it takes to bring an ambitious vision to life when the world tells you to shrink. Returning the Sacred to Mental Health Care: A Conversation with Sonia Luckey

In this week’s episode of The Shattering Place Podcast, I sit down with board-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner Sonia Luckey for an intimate conversation about the intersection of psychiatric care, spiritual psychology, and holistic healing. Sonia shares the pivotal moment nearly two decades ago when she realized she was living a dual existence: a high-performing clinician and professor by day, and her authentic, spiritually aligned self only on weekends. When she finally asked the universe to open the doors she needed to walk through, the response was a complete shattering! Through the sudden loss of her marriage, her career, and her social circle, Sonia navigated a profound dark night of the soul. Rather than sinking into victimhood, she cultivated deep humility and curiosity, ultimately earning degrees in both spiritual psychology and psychiatric nursing to bridge two worlds that should never have been separated. In this episode, we explore: The Reality of Awakening: How asking for deep life transformation often requires the chaotic dismantling of old structures before new growth can begin. Humility Over Victimhood: Using curiosity during moments of crisis to ask what a situation is teaching us, rather than falling into blame. Bridging Psychiatry and Soul Care: Why spirituality belongs at the center of healthcare and how honoring a person’s sacred beliefs creates true, lasting healing. The Sacredness of the Body: Finding profound dignity, presence, and reverence in unexpected places—from end-of-life care to outpatient psychiatric treatment. Women in Leadership: Reclaiming intuition, soft skills, and holistic wisdom to lead and heal outside the bounds of outdated professional norms. Whether you are navigating your own season of transition, working in the healing professions, or seeking to integrate your spiritual life with your psychological well-being, Sonia’s story offers a grounded, compassionate framework for turning personal crisis into sacred transformation. In this episode of The Shattering Place Podcast, I am joined by Safra Turner for an eye-opening conversation tracing her journey from the world of policy frameworks and activism into a profound spiritual awakening and holistic healing practice. Safra offers a deep dive into the architecture of reality, decoding how universal laws, sacred geometry, and subconscious archetypes shape our daily lives. She breaks down the disorienting “spiral of awakening” (the chaotic phase where old beliefs fall apart) and illuminates how moving through these shifts allows us to step out of victimhood and step directly into our own power. If you are navigating your own process of questioning the world around you, seeking to understand the energetic principles of reality, or learning how to embody oneness without giving away your agency, this conversation is a terrific starting point! My Quantum Hypnosis Session

In this unusually personal episode of The Shattering Place Podcast, I am sharing nearly the complete recording of a Quantum Hypnosis Session (derived from QHHT which means Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique — only when it is online it’s just called Quantum Hypnosis). In this podcast episode, I am under hypnosis and being guided to recall past (parallel? other?) lives as well as to ‘channel’ my higher self. This was facilitated by practitioner Ali Christos. Together, we traverse linear boundaries, moving from the smoke and rubble of World War II, to the aristocratic estates of 1700s France, before opening a direct dialogue with what seems to be my Higher Self. Beyond the hypnotic experience, Ali and I unpack the experience in a post-session debrief. We discuss what seems to be a pattern following me in what I recalled from other life experiences, what it felt like to ‘channel’ my higher self, and much, much more. Throughout, I pause to offer my audience reflections and clarify some historical data I found afterwards. This is real, vulnerable, and …. quite fascinating to say the least! Was I imagining it? What was real? What does it all mean? Keep an open mind and tell me your thoughts! The Shattering Place - Where this podcast began! Want to go deeper into the architecture of the New Human? When the World Hurts. A Conversation with Liz Moyer Benferhat

Are we in pain because we’re finally waking up to our collective system, and our place within it? In this episode of The Shattering Place, I’m joined by Liz Moyer Benferhat. She is an author, somatic educator, and founder of We Heal For All. Drawing from nearly two decades in international development, Liz shares her transition from high-level policy spaces to healing-centered approaches, exploring how emotional awareness, authenticity, and community circles drive genuine societal change. Together, we unpack a powerful truth: our inner reactions to global crisis, whether anger, grief, or total numbness, are vital clues to our core values. When we allow ourselves to feel these states deeply rather than bypassing them, we gain the clarity needed to fuel authentic, sustainable action. Join us as we explore why the most critical work of our time might just begin within, how that connects to consciousness and awakening, and how processing the world’s pain together may even be the answer to planetary evolution. What she found wasn’t a problem unique to activists or policymakers. It was a human problem. In 2018, she launched We Heal For All to address what she saw as the missing piece in social change work: the emotional lives of the people doing it. Through her teaching, she demystifies emotions, what they are, how they move through the mind and body, and why understanding them changes everything. In her signature Circle model, participants process those emotions experientially, together, unearthing wisdom within what they feel. The work has helped hundreds of people, parents, professionals, healers, and everyday humans trying to make sense of it all, move through the world’s pain rather than be flattened by it, and find their place in changing it. Her sustainable development work spans from grassroots programs in Africa and South America to SDG policy through the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and her research has been published in Columbia University’s Consilience Journal. Her clinical and creative work grows from the same root: a belief that the unconscious speaks in images, and that learning to listen changes everything. Clinically trained in depth psychology and somatic approaches, Valerie brings a practitioner’s precision and a poet’s ear to the work of dreaming. Her approach to dream work resists the tidy symbol-dictionary model. Instead, she works associatively, somatically, and imaginatively — treating dreams as living encounters rather than puzzles to solve. It’s a method rooted in Jungian tradition but animated by decades of sitting with real people in real darkness. Her new poetry collection, Night Flights (BookBaby, July 2026), is the lyric distillation of that practice — poems that move through grief, horses, fire, the body, and the strange grace of the interior life. It’s a journey into soul retrieval, a walk toward wholeness. https://linktr.ee/valeriejohns Get full access to Trauma, Growing Up, Waking Up at michelledixonwriter.substack.com/subscribe
