    Hard Wood, Hard Lessons – The Gidgee Episode What happens when you put timber through university, throw a chunk of Gidgee at a lathe, spend half your life sanding it, and then realise you probably should have gone to the gym? Welcome back to The Timber Bros Podcast with Plummo & Hazy — where woodworking, timber, tools, projects and the occasional workshop disaster all get thrown into the same bloody shed. This episode is a ripper. We kick things off with Engineered Timber and ask the question every traditional woodworker eventually faces: is it still timber if you’ve glued half a forest together? We get stuck into plywood, LVL, Glulam, CLT and why engineered timber isn't necessarily the poor cousin of solid timber. Then it's time for Timber of the Week — Gidgee. This stuff is seriously hard, seriously heavy and seriously good-looking. We talk about its incredible density, colour, grain, workability and what we'd actually make if someone dropped a beautiful chunk of Gidgee on the workshop bench. Then we hit the sanding bench with our mates at SPX Abrasives and talk about one of woodworking's great truths: You can never underestimate how much bloody sanding there is. From there it's Jig of the Week, where we're building a routing jig for putting a proper juice groove around a chopping board. Simple idea. Great result. Absolutely capable of turning an expensive piece of timber into an expensive serving platter if you get it wrong. We also get stuck into the projects currently occupying our workshops, including the inevitable question: How much did that bloody project actually cost?     Episode #05 – Jarrah, Wood Lathes, Dust, 3D Printing & Shed Legends

    The Timber Bros are back in the shed for another yarn about all things timber, tools, projects, mistakes and the stuff we probably should have read the instructions for! In this episode Plummo and Hazy dive into the world of Australian hardwoods with Jarrah – the deep red, tough and iconic Western Australian timber. From flooring and furniture to turning projects, they talk about why Jarrah has earned its reputation, the challenges of working with such a dense timber, and what they’d build if someone dropped a beautiful Jarrah slab on the shed floor. The boys also get stuck into wood lathes as the Tool of the Week, chatting about everything from entry-level machines through to bigger setups, turning bowls, pens and the occasional projectile timber incident when things don’t quite go to plan! Safety gets a serious look too, with a shed safety segment focused on dust masks and respiratory protection — because making sawdust is fun, but breathing it in isn’t. They discuss dust extraction, P2/N95 masks, workshop habits and why protecting your health is just as important as protecting your tools.
