Episode 27: Vibe Dealers | Turning a Love for Music Into a Movement

What started as a lifelong love for music has turned into something much bigger. On Episode 27 of Forged for Greatness, Chris sits down with Matt, the creator of Vibe Dealers, to talk about the story behind the page, his love for ’90s and early 2000s dance music, and how simply sharing the songs he considers “bangers” has grown into a community and opened doors to work alongside names like Louie DeVito. But Matt’s story goes much deeper than music. He opens up about his parents’ divorce, why music became an escape for him at a young age, and the impact his mom had on his life as a hardworking single mother who always kept the family grounded. Matt also shares a lesson from his father that stuck with him for life. During a basketball league, his dad had the opportunity to draft him onto his team — and didn’t. The message was simple: you’re not the best player yet. Instead of letting it break him, Matt went to work. He shot hoops every day, put in the reps, and learned that when talent isn’t enough, work ethic can close the gap. Years later, that same mentality helped him build Vibe Dealers from an idea sparked during a conversation on the golf course into a growing name in the dance music community. They also talk about family, marriage, staying grounded as the following grows, and why Matt refuses to make big decisions without putting his wife and family first. From basketball courts to dance-floor bangers, this one is about work ethic, family, music, and betting on something you genuinely love.

Episode 25: He Never Took Himself Seriously - Until He Built MRC Customs

Episode 25 of Forged for Greatness features Devin, founder of MRC Customs — a custom knife-making business named after the three most important people in his life: his wife Melissa and his daughters Reagan and Cameron. Growing up, Devin was always creative. He was into arts and crafts, had an artistic side, and was the kid who could sometimes be looked at as “nerdy.” But as he got older, fitting in became more important. The nerdy kid disappeared, the a*****e teenager showed up, and with that came drinking, experimenting, getting into trouble and not really taking himself — or what he was capable of — seriously. Years later, something as simple as picking up an angle grinder to fix something around the house opened an entirely new door. Devin taught himself how to make knives. No formal training. No blueprint. YouTube videos, research, trial and error, and a willingness to figure it out. Today, MRC Customs produces handcrafted knives built to look incredible and perform — from culinary knives to custom blades, Viking swords and even samurai swords. Every piece is still made by Devin himself, and he intends to keep it that way. But this conversation goes much deeper than knife making. We talk about finally believing you're worthy of being taken seriously, staying true to yourself as a business grows, losing both of your parents, and why success means very little if you're not there for the people who matter most. When Devin was asked what one word he hopes his daughters use to describe him someday, his answer was simple: Dad. Three letters that mean everything. This is Episode 25 of Forged for Greatness.

Episode 24: Forged Through the Breakdown | Alexis Abate

Sometimes the moments that feel like they’re breaking you are actually forcing you to become someone new. In Episode 24 of Forged for Greatness, Chris sits down with therapist Alexis Abate for a raw conversation about relationships, health, loss, healing, and the seasons of life that shape who we become. Alexis opens up about going through a devastating breakup that became an unexpected awakening. It forced her to question what she wanted out of life, what she needed from a future partner, and why certain people may enter our lives for a season—not necessarily forever, but long enough to teach us something. But the emotional battle was only part of her story. Alexis’s health began to deteriorate. Her body felt like it was shutting down. She experienced severe inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, brain fog, skin issues, and other symptoms while struggling to understand what was happening. Eventually, testing revealed exposure to multiple types of mold, including black mold. She packed her car, left the environment behind, and went to live with her Nonna. What followed was more than physical healing. Alexis began recognizing a powerful parallel between the toxicity in her physical environment and the relationships and situations in her life that were no longer serving her. The conversation also explores the seasons we all experience—the winters where relationships end and pieces of our old lives die, and the springs and summers where something new begins to grow. This episode is about learning to listen to yourself, letting go of what you’ve outgrown, finding meaning in painful seasons, and realizing that sometimes the breakdown is exactly what leads to the breakthrough. This is Alexis Abate’s story of being Forged for Greatness.

Episode 23: Sal Vicari | Building Businesses, Creating Freedom & Leaving a Legacy

In Episode 23 of Forged For Greatness, Christopher La Forgia sits down with entrepreneur and restaurateur Sal Vicari, owner of Cafe Michelina in Hoboken, real estate investor, and co-owner of Haus of Heat, a Pilates studio he started alongside his wife. Born into an Italian family with deep roots in Molfetta, Italy, Sal shares the invaluable lessons he learned from his parents, particularly his father, Pietro, who was not only his dad but also his longtime business partner. From watching his father build a life for his family to losing his mother and appreciating the unconditional love she gave him, Sal reflects on the experiences that shaped the man and entrepreneur he is today. Throughout this conversation, Sal opens up about the entrepreneurial mindset—the inability to shut off, constantly chasing ideas, taking risks, and always thinking about what’s next. He jokingly describes himself as having a severe case of ADD, constantly bouncing between businesses and opportunities, but it’s this relentless drive that has allowed him to build multiple streams of income and create opportunities for his family. Chris and Sal also bond over their shared Italian heritage and discuss the pressures, sacrifices, and ambitions that come with wanting to build something meaningful for future generations. Although many people would consider Sal highly successful, he humbly admits that he’s still only at “Level 5” of where he ultimately wants to be. His vision is far bigger: creating true financial freedom, building businesses that operate without his constant presence, and leaving his children with options, knowledge, and opportunities to forge their own paths in life. In this episode, we discuss: ▪️ Taking over Cafe Michelina and working alongside family▪️ Building wealth through multifamily real estate investing▪️ Launching Haus of Heat with his wife▪️ The lessons learned from his parents and Italian upbringing▪️ Unconditional love, family, and fatherhood▪️ Entrepreneurial ambition and never being able to “turn it off”▪️ The challenges of early business ownership and buying his first property▪️ How COVID became a period of reflection and future planning▪️ Why success is about creating freedom and leaving a lasting legacy This episode is for anyone who dreams of building something bigger than themselves while never losing sight of what truly matters: family. 🎙️ Hosted by Christopher La Forgia #ForgedForGreatness #SalVicari #Entrepreneurship #FamilyBusiness #RealEstate #ItalianAmerican #Legacy #CafeMichelina #HausOfHeat #Podcast
