Why Do We Choose Things We KNOW Aren’t Good for Us?

Why do we keep choosing things we know aren’t good for us? I recently found myself frustrated watching someone I care about make decisions that didn’t seem to align with what they said they wanted for their life. And then I had to turn the mirror back on myself: I’ve done the exact same thing. I’ve chosen instant gratification while knowing it wasn’t taking me where I wanted to go. I’ve stayed connected to things that felt good in the moment even when they didn’t align with what I wanted long-term. And that realization challenged something in me: Bad decisions don’t automatically equal poor character. Sometimes they simply reveal our humanity. In this episode of Kerah Speaks, I’m talking about our different emotional operating systems—why something that feels draining and pointless to one person can feel exciting, comforting, or stimulating to another. I’m also exploring the difference between knowing better and actually having the capacity, desire, or readiness to choose differently. Maybe the better question isn’t: “You know better, so why are you doing this?” Maybe it’s: “What is this giving you right now that’s powerful enough to compete with what you say you want later?” This conversation is about self-awareness, instant gratification, alignment, judgment, accountability, and learning to extend the same humanity to other people that we give ourselves. 💬 Reflection question: What have you continued choosing even though you knew it wasn’t taking you where you ultimately wanted to go? Your Calling Will Cost the Old You | The Calling Series Ep. 13 ft. Mystori

Your Calling Will Cost the Old You | The Calling Series Ep. 13 ft. Mystori What happens when walking in your calling requires you to let go of the person you used to be? In this episode of Kerah Speaks: The Calling Series, I sit down with recording artist Mystori for a conversation about faith, music, surrender, refinement, and the story behind her new single, “FIRE.” Mystori opens up about creating music that reflects her relationship with God while developing a sound that doesn't necessarily fit into the traditional gospel box. We talk about what it means for music to become ministry, how her faith influences her artistry, and the inspiration behind some of the most powerful lyrics in FIRE. One lyric in particular became the heart of our conversation: “The old you has got to die.” We explore what it means to be refined, the things we can unknowingly turn into idols, and whether becoming who God has called us to be sometimes requires us to surrender versions of ourselves that can no longer go with us. Because sometimes the calling isn't only about what you're becoming. It's also about what you're willing to leave behind. In this episode, we discuss Mystori's journey as an artist, finding her sound and musical influences, the inspiration behind FIRE, creating faith-centered music outside of traditional gospel, being led by the Holy Spirit creatively, letting go of idols, refinement and surrender, music as ministry, and what it means to allow your gift to become your testimony. 🎙️ Guest: Mystori🎵 New Single: FIRE 🎥 Subscribe to Kerah Speaks for more conversations with creatives, entrepreneurs, artists, and visionaries about the purpose and calling behind what they do. 🌐 KerahSpeaks.com If this conversation speaks to you, LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE & SUBSCRIBE.
