Popcorn, Candy & Things That Go Bump 🎃

Episode 33 — Popcorn, Candy & Things That Go Bump 🎃 It’s officially spooky season! In this episode of Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, we’re getting into all things Halloween. I’m sharing six spooky movies worth watching this Halloween—and no, we’re not ranking them. From Halloween and The Thing to Beetlejuice, The Blair Witch Project, Get Out, and Night of the Living Dead, we’ll talk about what makes each one special and why they deserve a spot on your Halloween watchlist. Then we’re checking out some of the new Halloween candy hitting shelves in 2026. There are some seriously interesting—and questionable—candy choices this year! And finally, we’re talking about some of the worst things you can hand out to trick-or-treaters. Because let's be honest… nobody wants to walk up to a house dressed as Spider-Man and get a toothbrush. So grab some popcorn, grab your favorite Halloween candy, turn the lights down, and settle in for a fun and spooky episode. Happy Halloween—and whatever you do, if you hear something outside… don't go investigate. That's how horror movies start. 🎃👻🍫 Stay Mostly You, Occasionally Wise. Brains, Bites & Bad Decisions: My 5 Favorite Zombie Movies

What would you do if the zombie apocalypse started tomorrow? Would you have a plan? Would you know where to go? Would you have enough food? Or would you spend the first five minutes trying to figure out why the Wi-Fi isn't working? 😂 In Episode 32 of Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, we're talking about one of my favorite movie genres: ZOMBIES! 🧟‍♂️ Brian breaks down five of his favorite zombie movies, including: 🧟 Shaun of the Dead — because sometimes the best survival strategy is pretending everything is completely normal. 🚆 Train to Busan — proof that being trapped on a moving train with zombies is pretty much the exact opposite of a relaxing vacation. 🪦 Night of the Living Dead — the classic that helped define the modern zombie movie. ❤️ Warm Bodies — because apparently even zombies need a little romance. 🏚️ Dawn of the Dead — zombies, survival, and the realization that a shopping mall might actually be one of the better places to ride out the apocalypse. But we're not stopping with movies. We're also taking a look at some of the wildest zombie-survival ideas people have come up with. Some are surprisingly clever. Others make you wonder if the person who came up with them would actually survive the first 20 minutes. 😂 From hiding out in unexpected places to finding creative ways to avoid becoming zombie chow, we're asking the important question: Could Brian actually survive the zombie apocalypse? The answer may depend heavily on how much coffee is available. So grab your snacks, lock the doors, keep an eye on the windows, and whatever you do... DON'T LET ANYBODY BITE YOU. Back When TV Raised Us

Remember when you actually had to be home to watch your favorite TV show? No streaming.  No DVR.  No “watch next.”  No going back and watching an episode whenever you wanted. If you missed it... You missed it. In Episode 31 of Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, we're taking a trip back to the TV shows that became part of my childhood—and honestly, probably helped raise me a little. We're talking about: 📺 Home Improvement 📺 Full House 📺 Family Matters 📺 Saved by the Bell 📺 The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 📺 The Wonder Years We'll talk about what made these shows memorable, the characters we couldn't forget, the life lessons hidden underneath the laughs, and why watching them now can take you right back to being a kid. Because sometimes you don't actually miss the show... You miss who you were when you watched it. Plus, we'll kick things off with another Dad Life Debrief, and I'll have a little fun remembering the days when whoever had the TV remote basically had complete control of the household. 😂 🎬 SUPPORT THE SHOW This episode is sponsored by OpusClip! Motivational Speeches, Bad Decisions & Touchdowns

I love football movies. The impossible comebacks. The ridiculous underdog stories. The motivational speeches that somehow make you believe you could walk onto an NFL field tomorrow. For Episode 30 of Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, I’m talking about five of my favorite football movies — and there’s no ranking because apparently I’m not brave enough to start that fight. 🏈 The Replacements 🏈 Necessary Roughness 🏈 Remember the Titans 🏈 Little Giants 🏈 Brian’s Song Some are hilarious. Some are inspirational. Some bring back serious childhood nostalgia… and one is guaranteed to make you reach for the tissues. I’ll talk about what makes each movie special, the characters and actors who brought them to life, and why these movies have stuck with me over the years. And of course, we'll have our Dad Life Debrief, because what's a football episode without a little dad-level commentary? 🎬 Support the show with OpusClip! Apparently, We Were Idiots: Lies Our Parents Told Us

Remember when we believed swallowing a watermelon seed meant you'd grow a watermelon in your stomach? Or that swimming after eating would send you straight to the emergency room? How about turning on the dome light in the car? Apparently, that was basically a federal offense! In this episode of Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, we're looking back at the ridiculous things we were told as kids that we believed without question—including the classic warning that making a funny face could leave you stuck that way forever. And then there's the big one: being told it was illegal to tell people who you voted for. The best part? Now we're adults... which means we're probably telling our own kids some of the same nonsense. It's funny, it's nostalgic, and it may make you question everything your parents ever told you. What did you believe as a kid that turned out to be completely untrue? Back to School: What I Miss, What Changed, and What I'd Tell My Younger Self

It's back-to-school season, and this week on Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise, we're heading back to the classroom—at least in our memories! Brian takes a nostalgic look at what he misses about school, from recess and lunch with friends to field trips, book fairs, school pictures, and those unforgettable first-day-of-school nerves. We'll also compare school then vs. school now, looking at how technology, smartphones, digital assignments, AI, and the way parents stay connected with schools have completely changed the experience. Then Brian gets a little more personal: What would I tell my younger self if I could go back to my school days? It's a trip down memory lane filled with laughs, nostalgia, and a few lessons that still matter long after graduation. Whether you're a parent getting your kids ready for another school year, a student heading back to class, or someone who remembers when school meant chalkboards and overhead projectors, this episode will have you remembering your own school days. 🎒 What do YOU miss most about school? 🎬 This Episode Is Brought to You by Opus Clip If you're a podcaster, content creator, or small business owner looking to turn long-form videos into engaging social media clips in minutes, check out the AI editing tool I use every week. 👉 Try Opus Clip Using my affiliate link helps support Mostly Me, Occasionally Wise at no additional cost to you.
