Bonus: Comedy Gone Wrong (How I Left Judy Carter Out Of My Podcast)

Comedy Gone Wrong… and Somehow It Got Even Funnier. 😂🎙️ You know those moments when you realize the joke is on you? Well… welcome to my week. Back in 1992, I took legendary comedy coach Judy Carter’s stand-up comedy class. That experience stretched me in ways I never expected. As a professional dancer, I was comfortable performing with my body—but comedy challenged me to trust my voice. It taught me to tell stories, laugh at my own life, and connect with an audience in a completely different way. Fast forward more than 30 years. I recently recorded my podcast episode, “Don’t Open Your Mouth: How I Found My Voice Anyway,” which was inspired by my Toastmasters speech. In that speech, I share how Judy’s class became part of my journey from hiding behind choreography to speaking into a microphone with confidence. Or at least… I thought I did. I sent Judy the link to the podcast episode and proudly told her I’d mentioned her. Then I listened to it again. Somewhere between recording, editing, and publishing, I had accidentally left out the entire section about Judy. The very person who helped me discover my voice… …was missing from the episode about finding my voice. You honestly can’t make this stuff up. So I did what I always try to do when life hands me an awkward moment—I laughed, admitted my mistake, and recorded a new introduction to the episode. Because authenticity matters more than pretending I get everything right. One thing I’ve learned from podcasting, speaking, and life is this: Mistakes aren’t proof that you shouldn’t create. They’re proof that you’re creating. If you’ve ever hit “send” too soon, forgotten something important, or confidently told someone something that wasn’t actually true… welcome to the club. You’re in good company. Thank you, Judy Carter, for teaching me all those years ago that humor isn’t about being perfect. Sometimes the funniest stories are the ones we accidentally create ourselves. And yes… this one is definitely going into my blooper reel. What’s the funniest mistake you’ve ever made that turned into a better story than the original? I’d love to hear it. 👇

S2:Episode 4 - Don't Open Your Mouth: How I Found My Voice Anyway

What happens when one painful sentence stays with you for years? In this solo episode of Still Finding My Voice, Lynne Street shares a deeply personal story from 1993, when she was President of the Ladies Comedy Club of Hollywood and someone told her, “You’re a great dancer. Just don’t open your mouth.” That sentence landed hard. As a professional dancer, Lynne was used to being seen, applauded, and understood through movement. But speaking? Sharing her thoughts? Using her voice? That felt much more vulnerable. Years later, the woman who was told not to open her mouth started a podcast. In this episode, Lynne reflects on how painful words can shape us, but they do not have to define us. She shares how shame, self-doubt, perfectionism, fear, and hiding can keep women quiet — especially in seasons of transition, reinvention, or starting over. Lynne also introduces her VOICE Method™ as a framework for healing, courage, and becoming: V — View & Validate what happened O — Open to a new possibility I — Integrate all parts of who you are C — Choose Courage, even when your voice shakes E — Embrace the woman you are today This episode is for the woman who has ever been told she was too much, not enough, too late, too awkward, too emotional, or not qualified. It is for the woman who has been clapping for everyone else and quietly wondering if she still has something inside of her too. Your voice does not have to be perfect to matter. Your story does not have to be polished to be powerful. And someone else’s sentence is not your life’s assignment. If you have been waiting for permission to speak, share, begin, or show up — this is your reminder. Open your mouth. Tell your story. Take up space. Use your voice. Because it was never meant to stay hidden. 🎧 Listen / follow / share the podcast: https://pod.link/1879328406?view=apps&sort=popularity 💌 Contact Lynne / share your story / be a guest: SFMVpodcast@gmail.com 🔗 All links: https://linktr.ee/LynneStreetOfficial If this episode encourages you, share it with a friend who’s in a “becoming” season—because sometimes the bravest thing we can do is keep creating and keep showing up while we’re still finding our voice. Episode 9 - The "C" in VOICE - Courage Looks Like Going Live Anyway

The “C” in VOICE stands for Courage — and sometimes courage looks like going live anyway. In this episode of Still Finding My Voice, Lynne shares what it was like to go live for the first time, what fear and overthinking tried to tell her before she hit the button, and what happened when she did it anyway. This is not a conversation about polished courage, fearless confidence, or having everything figured out before you begin. It’s about real-life courage — the kind that shows up when your heart is racing, your thoughts are all over the place, and your nervous system would very much prefer that you back out. It’s about doing the thing scared, surviving the awkwardness, and realizing that courage often comes before confidence. In this honest and encouraging solo episode, Lynne talks about how easy it is to disqualify ourselves when we are new, how often we think we need more practice or more proof before we are “allowed” to begin, and why that mindset can keep us stuck. She reflects on what it means to take one brave step before you feel fully ready, and how even one uncomfortable moment can become evidence that you are more capable than you thought. If you’ve ever delayed posting, speaking, showing up, launching, going live, or trying something new because you didn’t feel experienced enough, confident enough, or ready enough, this episode is for you. This is your reminder that experience comes from beginning, not from waiting. Your first step does not have to be perfect to count. It just has to be real. This episode is part of Lynne’s The VOICE MethodTM series inside Season 1 of Still Finding My Voice, a podcast for people navigating change, reinvention, courage, grief, joy, and the messy beauty of becoming more fully themselves. With warmth, honesty, and a little humor, Lynne invites listeners to stop overthinking every step and start trusting that growth can happen in real time.In this episode: The “C” in VOICE: CourageGoing live for the first timeWhy courage usually comes before confidenceHow overthinking keeps us stuckLearning to stop disqualifying yourself for being newTaking brave steps before you feel readyTrusting yourself through discomfort and growthIf this episode encouraged you, share it with a friend, follow the show, and keep finding your voice — one honest thought at a time Come join us on our Facebook Group called Still Finding My Voice Community.
