Functioning But Not Free: Why Surviving Was Never the Final Destination

What if the strongest person you know is still not free? What if that person is you? You can work, raise children, serve in church, build a business, and be the one everyone calls. And still have parts of your life run by what happened to you years ago. That is functioning. But functioning is not freedom. In this solo episode of Awakened 2 Purpose, survivor empowerment coach and childhood sexual abuse survivor Larissa "Rizzy" Rhone sits in the park and lays the foundation for everything Journey 2 Free stands for. She talks honestly about trauma healing, why survival was never meant to be the final destination, and how to reassign the shame that never belonged to you. In this episode, you'll learn: Why surviving trauma is not the same as healing from itHow trauma leaves meanings, not just memories, and how those meanings become beliefsWhat "Reassign the Shame" really means, and the difference between fault and responsibilityWhy "speak" does not mean telling your story online, and safe ways to tell the truthHow faith and Romans 12:2 help renew the mind after abuseWhy your pain is not your qualification for purposeAn introduction to the S.P.E.A.K. Why Didn’t They Choose Me? How Childhood Betrayal Shapes Adult Relationships

What happens when the adults who were supposed to protect you knew you were being harmed, and still failed to protect you? In this episode, Tammy and I begin by asking how trauma can make someone look like a “bad friend.” But the conversation quickly takes us beneath the behavior and into the childhood experiences that can shape adult relationships. We unpack over-giving, withdrawal, ghosting, difficulty communicating needs, distrust, family betrayal, unsafe adults, forgiveness, faith, disclosure, and the painful question many survivors carry long after childhood: “Why didn’t they choose me? ”Because sometimes the difficulty you experience in adult relationships did not begin in adulthood. If childhood taught you that the people closest to you could not be trusted to protect you, those lessons can follow you into friendships, romantic relationships, boundaries, communication, and the way you interpret other people’s actions. We also confront a difficult faith question: What happens when people who profess to follow God fail to protect children? And we talk about why speaking matters, even when the first person you tell does not respond the way they should. Please don’t stop talking.Keep looking for safe people.Keep telling.Keep giving your truth somewhere safe to land. This conversation went somewhere we did not plan, but somewhere we believe we needed to go. CONTENT NOTE: This episode discusses childhood sexual abuse, rape, family betrayal, and other potentially difficult trauma-related experiences. Bad Friend or Trauma Respond | Awakened 2 Purpose Podcast ft Coach Tammy

Larissa and Tammy get honest about the friendships they’ve lost, the ones they walked away from without explanation, and the moment it took real self awareness to finally say out loud, this made me uncomfortable, and I need you to hear me. They talk about what it looks like to catch yourself mid pattern, apologize, and actually repair instead of retreat. This episode is for the survivor who has ever wondered why closeness feels dangerous. For the one who has isolated so long it started to feel normal and for the one who needs permission to know that friendships done right can be one of the most beautiful things God gives us, and that you were never meant to do this alone. Shift the mindset. Change the narrative. Create new norms. Reassign the shame. If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out. Who Am I When No-one Needs Me?

Have you ever found yourself asking, "Who am I when no one needs me?"When my sons left for vacations with their father, I expected to miss them. What I didn't expect was the painful realization that followed. For the first time in a long time, I was alone, and I discovered that somewhere between surviving childhood trauma, raising children, serving others, building a ministry, and pouring into everyone else, I still had work to do around who I am becoming. In this deeply personal episode of Awakened 2 Purpose, I share the conversation God has been having with me about identity, healing, motherhood, trauma, purpose, and the difference between serving others and finding our worth in being needed. If you've ever struggled with:• Losing yourself in motherhood• Feeling empty when your children grow up or leave home• Trauma and identity• Codependent patterns• Always being the strong one• Living for everyone else while forgetting yourself• Finding your identity in Christ instead of your roles...then this conversation is for you. We'll explore what Scripture teaches about identity, why trauma often causes us to attach our worth to our usefulness, and how healing invites us to rediscover who God created us to be.Featured Scriptures:• Genesis 1• Luke 10:38-42 (Mary & Martha)• Psalm 46:10• Isaiah 43:1Healing isn't just recovering from what happened to you.Sometimes healing is finally discovering who you are when you no longer have to survive.💙 If this episode encouraged you, please Like, Comment, Subscribe, and Share it with someone who may need this reminder today. 🦋 Journey with Me:Website: www.journey2free.comPodcast: Awakened 2 PurposeShop: Books & Merch: https://linktr.ee/Journey2FreeConnect: Speaking/Media Inquiries: larissa@journey2free.com 💛 Let’s Connect:Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/rhone.rizzy/TikTok: @https://www.tiktok.com/@journey2free1?_r=1&_t=ZP-97vmkFcM27KFacebook: facebook.com/journey2freeSubstack: thedefiantdisruptor.substack.comLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/larissarhone🙏🏾 Want to Support the Mission?CashApp: $Journey2FreeZeffy: Your giving helps us support survivors, host retreats, and create life-giving content.💙 Subscribe, share, and stay awhile.Your voice matters, your healing matters.Let’s heal forward, together.

Awakened 2 Purpose Quick Bite ~ What is easier: staying comfortable or choosing freedom? With Dorcas Pittman

In this powerful Awakened 2 Purpose Quick Bite, Larissa Rhone asks guest Dorcas Pittman one simple question that opens the door to a much deeper conversation about trauma healing, familiar pain, faith, identity, and freedom. Dorcas shares how she became comfortable navigating trauma because it was familiar. But when God revealed that she was called to more, she had to make the difficult decision to step beyond what felt comfortable and begin healing toward freedom. For Dorcas, freedom feels like finally being able to breathe. It means no longer allowing shame, pride, pain, or past trauma to control her identity or prevent her from becoming the woman God created her to be.Healing does not always mean that every painful memory, trigger, or difficult day disappears. Sometimes freedom means that what happened to you no longer gets to define you, silence you, or determine the direction of your life. This episode is for survivors of childhood sexual trauma, chronic illness warriors, cycle-breakers, and anyone who knows they were created for more but has struggled to leave familiar patterns behind. What are you choosing in this season: what feels comfortable, or what leads to freedom? Share your answer in the comments. If this conversation encouraged, challenged, or gave language to something you have been carrying, please like, subscribe, and share it with someone who is learning to reassign the shame, reclaim their voice and identity, and awaken to purpose. The Awakened 2 Purpose Podcast is a faith-rooted, trauma-informed space where survivors get honest about healing, transformation, identity, and discovering their God-given purpose. I almost let fear keep me out of the room.

I almost let fear keep me out of the room.I'm fresh off the Podcast Summit in Alabama, and I have to be honest with you, I almost didn't go. My head was already picturing a room with over two thousand people in it and talking myself out of showing up before I even got there. But I went anyway. I traveled alone for the first time in a long time, and I stayed present, stayed regulated, didn't let the old hypervigilance run the show. That's growth I don't take for granted. While I was there I heard stories that reminded me exactly why this work matters. A man rebuilding his life after a motorcycle accident that took him out twice. A man stepping back into the world after twenty years incarcerated. Every story in that room had a place. Every story was needed. And if you've ever wondered whether yours matters too, this one's for you.If this brings something up for you, you are not alone. In the US, call or text the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800 656 4673, or the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Until You Can Say It, You Are Not Free: Call the Thing a Thing - Guest Appearance On: Staci Speaks

I was invited onto Staci Speaks Hope, a podcast dedicated to healing the little girl within, and I left that conversation knowing it needed to live on this platform too. This is one of the most honest conversations I have ever had on record. We talk about what it really means to call a thing a thing. Why so many of us are still bound not because we have not prayed, not because we have not tried, but because we have never been able to say out loud exactly what happened to us. And until you can say it, shame still has an address inside you. I share my own story. The decades of silence. The protection I thought I was giving other people while I was dying inside. The moment I had to choose between my healing and my death. The court case. The family that would rather bury me than face the truth. The journaling, the poetry, the recording myself just to survive. And then the moment that changed everything. 4 o'clock in the morning in a hospital bed. Words flying out of my mouth that I could not take back. And a voice that said say it again. I also talk about what I did not know was blocking me for years. I was performing healing. I was praying, showing up, doing the work, but I was keeping God at arm's length because I did not know I still resented Him. And you cannot heal what you are hiding, even from yourself. This isn’t just a channel ~ It’s a movement ~ A safe space ~ A soul revival ~ A faith-led rebellion against silence. What You’ll Find Here:~ Survivor-centered truths + unspoken conversations~ Scripture-based healing and identity work~ Faith-fueled affirmations, devotionals, and reflections~ Spoken word and original encouragement~ Interviews with survivors and experts~ Conversations around trauma, identity, and healing~ Safe, sacred content to stir your soul and remind you: you are not alone🦋 Journey with Me:Website: www.journey2free.comPodcast: Awakened 2 PurposeShop: Books & Merch: https://linktr.ee/Journey2FreeConnect: Speaking/Media Inquiries: larissa@journey2free.com💛 Let’s Connect:Instagram: @journey2freeTikTok: @journey2freeFacebook: facebook.com/journey2freeSubstack: thedefiantdisruptor.substack.comLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/larissarhone🙏🏾 Want to Support the Mission?CashApp: $Journey2FreeZeffy: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/give-the-gift-of-healing-help-a-child-survivor-thriveYour giving helps us support survivors, host retreats, and create life-giving content.💙 Subscribe, share, and stay awhile.Your voice matters, your healing matters.Let’s heal forward, together.**DISCLAIMER: Episodes may contain graphic details. ***Please be advised - Maybe triggering to trauma survivors ~ If triggered, please call your local sexual assault hotline.***
