    What Tears are Really Saying

I've been in my feelings lately and I'm finally listening. It started with a night at the movies, watching the new Michael Jackson biopic with my family. The tears that came weren't where I expected them and not in the obvious emotional moments, but in the ones that felt like knowing. That distinction became the thread for this episode: what if tears aren't weakness, sadness, or a loss of control? What if they're data? In this episode, I unpack the many languages of tears from grief that surfaces unexpectedly to overwhelm that arrives with purpose, and the quiet and full-body recognition that something is true. I trace my own complicated relationship with emotion, from growing up as the oldest daughter in an alcoholic household, to mastering the art of suppression in the corporate world, to slowly learning through somatic therapy, meditation, Reiki, and two years of deep personal unraveling to trust what my body is trying to say. This one is for any woman who has ever apologized for crying, stifled it back, or called herself "too sensitive." Those tears aren't the problem. They might actually be the point. In this episode: Why I cried watching MJ and what it had to do with my sonBeing a triple water sign who learned to run dryThe Valentine's Day grief I didn't see comingTears of sadness vs. tears of knowing and how to tell the differenceWhat it could mean for our teams, our culture, and our world if women were encouraged to feel instead of told to toughen upFind me on Substack at unchartedleadership.substack.com for more conversations on burnout, alignment, and leading from the inside out.

    Stop. Regulate. And Listen.

In this episode of Uncharted, I’m getting real about something that’s changed my life: regulation. I spent years living in a state of total overwhelm, disconnected from my heart and soul while trying to juggle a high-pressure job and being a mom to young kids. I’m sharing what I’ve learned about shifting that "unregulated" energy and finding a way back to myself. What Regulation Actually Is: To me, being regulated isn't about being "perfect" or always happy; it’s about having the awareness to feel my emotions like anger or stress and move through them without losing my cool. My "Unregulated" Highlights: I look back at some of my toughest moments, like a total meltdown during my son's kindergarten admissions and a cake-related crisis at a 2nd birthday party. Energy is a Broadcast: I talk about how our internal "frequency" acts like a broadcast that our kids, partners, and even pets pick up on. I even dive into how our stress as moms can impact our babies before they’re even born. Healing for the Kids: One of the biggest reasons I did this work was for my boys. I’ve noticed that as I’ve learned to regulate, the energy in our whole house has shifted for the better. The Quick Fixes: When I'm feeling the heat, I use things like splashing cold water on my face, box breathing, or the $5-7$ vagal nerve breath to get back into my body. The Long Game: I’ve found that a daily meditation practice (even just 10 minutes) plus real rest and "play" time are what keep me from hitting a level 10 meltdown. Body Cues: I share how listening to those random aches and pains in my back or hips actually helped me realize where I was storing emotional stress. "When we regulate and get quiet, we clear the clutter and finally start to hear what we actually need."
