Reel Recovery Testimonials "In 2015, my father, Mike, came home from his Reel Recovery retreat a new man. Uplifted, excited and with new passion for fly fishing, my dad was back and charging full steam ahead. Humor intact, he is alive and positive and active as ever. I know for a fact that had he not participated in Reel Recovery this would not be the case. I owe more that I could repay to the folks that make Reel Recovery a success. The volunteers, donors, facilitators and supporters are fantastic people who serve with a cheerful heart and open arms. This year I had the privilege to be a fishing buddy. Changed forever, I can confidently say that I got as much from the event as the participants, and for that I am truly grateful. I truly have never worked with such a wonderful group such as Reel Recovery. Every single man that we sent came back so excited to share their experience with all. It was so great to see the new hope in their eyes. Cancer has been a very rough road for my family, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to hear others' stories, witness their courage, and talk about things with men who can relate so well. Reel Recovery has given me PEACE and UNDERSTANDING…finally. Each day I am remembering small moments with my wife and kids, as well as creating small moments more often. There is so much to live for and to keep living for! I consider the weekend at Reel Recovery to be the start of my REAL recovery, and their generosity and kindness was what I needed to get on the path to wellness. Since my diagnosis 18 months ago, I’ve been living only in darkness. This Retreat, you guys, have shown me there’s hope, there’s light, and now I’m turning to it. You have saved my life. Reel Recovery staff and volunteers: You give hope where there is hopelessness, You give caring when it seems that no one cares, You give joy when everything may look so sad, You give fun and pleasure when life can be so unpleasant. These retreats bring a deeper understanding and bond to all who participate. It shows us that we are not alone in our disease, that we are in-fact normal. That someone really cares about us and is willing to go out of their way to show compassion and understanding and fellowship to us. It creates a brotherhood between the participants for the rest of their lives and unfortunately some of those lives are cut short by this dreadful and often painful disease. The fishing part gives us the drug of life. It is the miracle drug that stops our pain, eases our anguish, and smothers our fears. Even for just an hour or a day. It makes all the difference to us. I’m afraid that only the participants can really understand this. And it is why that I have become a volunteer and a staunch supporter of RR. Wow---what a great weekend. I can't begin to thank you and all the other buddies enough. It could not have come at a better time, I really needed some uplifting, and you were all there to help. Thank You!!
