The First Day: Waking Up to Who You Actually Are

with Anastasia Gold

The First Day with Anastasia Gold, is a weekly exploration of what it means to live consciously while still being human. This podcast isn’t about fixing yourself, regulating every emotion, or endlessly working on the character. It’s about discovering what has always been there, beneath the roles we play. Through personal stories, deep questions, and conversations that connect psychology, consciousness, and everyday life, Anastasia explores how identity shapes our experience of reality. From heartbreak and financial setbacks to reinvention and personal power, these conversations ask a simple but radical question: What changes when we stop trying to control the story and begin recognising the awareness behind it? This is not philosophy for the sake of philosophy. It’s about living intentionally, understanding our place in the larger intelligence of life, and learning how to move through the world with clarity — even when things hurt. New episodes weekly. Just clarity. For thinkers, seekers, and high-achievers who are ready to stop fixing themselves and start seeing clearly. Ready to move from Stuck to Sovereign? Awareness, Presence & Why You Are Reality, Not Just In It — Anastasia Unfiltered

I spent six years knowing a woman online and three and a half hours finally meeting her properly. Here’s what was actually in that gap. Episode description This episode is the podcast companion to this week’s Substack piece, “i kept leaving myself to go find myself,” but it doesn’t retell the essay. It takes the essay’s core move, that there was never a traveler who needed to arrive at presence, and pushes it one layer further: not that you can get better at being present, but that you aren’t a separate self inside reality at all. You are what reality is. Anastasia tells the story behind it: a trip to Barcelona, an old friend doing her hair, finally meeting a six-year online friend in person (a Dominican bachata teacher she’d only ever watched from a screen), her class that evening, a drink after with both friends, and a three-and-a-half-hour dinner the following Friday that left the other woman with, in her words, aha moment after aha moment. Anastasia uses it to walk through where “reality” actually was during the moments she wasn’t managing herself, why meeting someone in person means killing the story you built of them first, and credits Alexander DeWayne’s awareness-versus-authorship line for the exact distinction between admiring someone from a distance and actually showing up. It closes on the strongest claim of the episode: not that you create your reality, but that there was never a gap between you and it to begin with. No offer in this one. Some episodes are just for saying the true thing out loud.In this episode * 00:00 Cold open * 00:22 Show intro * 00:50 Warm-up: Barcelona, an old friend’s hands and new highlights, a six-year online friendship finally in the same room, and a dinner that ran three and a half hours * 04:24 The hour she forgot to watch: the chair, the hands, where reality actually was * 06:26 Six years online: the person she built before she ever stood in the room * 07:51 Choosing again: watching from a screen versus showing up, and the DeWayne line between noticing and un-choosing * 08:50 You are reality: the dinner, the aha moments, and past the gap entirely * 10:42 The close: no offer, just the reflection * 12:45 What’s coming next Pull quote “I am not in reality. Manifestation, Living in the End & the Identity Behind the Proof

Manifestation, Living in the End & the Identity Behind the Proof I stopped checking my bank account for proof I’d made it. Here’s why the checking was the problem, not the number. Episode description This episode is the podcast companion to this week’s Substack piece, “the trip i already took,” but it doesn’t retell the essay. It picks up where the essay leaves off, with a teaching from Chris “The Wiz” Miller’s YouTube channel that undid years of Anastasia’s own logic about the Dominican Republic move. In this episode I go past the line everyone quotes, “creation is already finished,” into what it actually demands: no more checking the bank account for permission, and a harder distinction between living in the end and simply refusing to look at your life. I extend the amnesia idea in a direction Miller doesn’t take it, makes the case for why awareness (not effort, and not denial) is the actual ground underneath any of this, and shares the one question she now asks herself instead of reaching for the calculator. “The checking is the character auditioning for the part. And the balance was never holding the casting decision. It never was.” Mentioned in this episode ● The essay: the trip i already took — Substack link ● Chris “The Wiz” Miller: youtube.com/@christhewizmiller ● Next week: Episode 32 — Neither Hot Nor Cold Follow & support If this one landed, subscribe and leave a quick rating or review on Apple Podcasts. #30. The Verdict

The Verdict Self-Concept, Manifestation & Why You Keep Checking the 3D I manifested his apology two years before he actually gave it, and when it came, I did not need it. This episode is about what happens the day you stop needing the verdict at all. Episode description This episode is the podcast companion to this week’s Substack piece, The Brace. Anastasia opens with a story from her own week: an old spreadsheet of 2023 manifestations, a phone call that delivered almost the exact apology she had once written down as a wish (tears included), and the one part of it that still is not settled for her. From there she breaks down the bracing pattern from the essay, A Course in Miracles Lesson 170, and the three specific moves that tell you when you are checking the 3D for a verdict instead of deciding who you already are. The episode closes with the booking link for anyone ready to stop asking for the verdict and start authoring instead. “That is me still handing him the pen. Still letting a photograph tell me something about my own security that I am supposed to be the one deciding.” Mentioned in this episode The essay: The Brace, on Substack A Course in Miracles, Lesson 170 Book a conversation Follow and support If this one landed, subscribe and leave a quick rating or review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The Brace

The Brace I can tell how safe I feel by how “ready” I evaluate that I am. Ready is my native state - or so is the story I am counting. I walk into the room already holding the answer. I arrive at the hard conversation having rehearsed the hard part. I love someone and somewhere underneath it I am quietly preparing for the version of the day they leave. I call this being prepared. For most of my life I called it strength and being a realist. It took me a long time to see what it actually was: a brace. The body going stiff a half-second before a blow that has not landed and, most of the time, was never coming. This is what I did not want to know. The brace has one real effect. It goes out and fetches the thing it was built to keep away. “I make real the very thing I defend against.” ACIM LESSON 170 Guard a relationship hard enough and you will feel the hands close around it. Love is not fragile. But guarding is a set of hands, and hands close. Hold someone by the wrist so they cannot leave, and you have already put the leaving in the room. It is there now, named, between you. The irony is you did it to keep it out. I have watched myself do this at a level so subtle it passes for competence. A note reread and trimmed before I send it - the warmth cut because warmth is exposure and exposure is risk - so that what goes out is the smaller version, and the smaller version is what gets answered. And I sit there unmet by a message I shrank on purpose. I prepare for the meeting until I have rehearsed every version where it goes against me, then walk in already wearing the answer on my face. And no wonder, the room meets the wall I brought and answers the wall, cool and measured, the way walls are always answered. A softness withheld to see whether it will be earned, and in the withholding I manufacture the exact distance I was frightened of. The mind that defends is always, quietly, planning. It runs the attack in advance so it can be ready. And a mind rehearsing an attack has already agreed the attack is coming, and stays loyal to that agreement above everything else. This is the lesson A Course in Miracles keeps circling back to: the defence and the attack are one motion. You cannot brace for the blow without, in some small way at least, calling it in. I will be honest about where I stand with this, because I do not trust essays written from the far side of a thing by someone who has already set the weapon down. I have not set it down. Not entirely, and so, not at all. I know the mechanism now. I see it the way you see a word you have only just learned appear everywhere. That does not mean my hands are open. There are rooms I still enter ready. There are people I love with one palm flat against the door. I feel the old logic offer itself: be ready and you cannot be hurt, and often I take the deal anyway. Seeing the trap and standing inside it are two different places. I am writing to you from the second one. What changed is smaller than a cure and larger than an idea. I now see the cost. Because, as you’d expect, the bracing, the preparation for a blow, was never free. Every outcome I armored against, I was also feeding. The leaving I prepared for, I rehearsed into being. The disappointment I expected, I arranged furniture around until there was a chair for it. Some of the losses in my life were losses. Some were invitations I sent, and then grieved when they arrived. “There is no cruelty in God and none in me.” That line is the floor under all of it. If no cruelty is coming, the brace has no work to do. If the ground is not out to get me, the readiness is only tension I mistook for wisdom. The hostility was never out there. It was the shape of my own getting-ready, held so long it went looking for something to prove it right. The hostility derives from my own assumptions. There is no world out there apart from the one observing it. ME. I cannot hand you the unclenching. That is the one thing prose cannot do. I can show you the machine, name every gear, walk you around it in full light, and you will still be standing there holding what you hold. The release lives lower than thought, in the quiet second where you stop getting ready without quite deciding to. No thought reaches down that far. No paragraph reaches that second. Only you do. So I will not tell you to open your hands. I will only ask what you already know. What are you guarding so hard that your grip has become the danger? What outcome have you rehearsed so faithfully it has started to feel like memory? Where, right now, are you keeping the weapon? Name it. Do not fix it. Naming will do for now. Most of what you are braced against is living inside the brace itself. Watch how much of it leaves when the readiness does. Not all of it. But more than you would think. Softly. Slowly. Anyway. #29. The Self-Improvement Industry, Nervous-System Regulation & Why the Fix Never Sticks

The Self-Improvement Industry, Nervous-System Regulation & Why the Fix Never Sticks The self-improvement industry is worth $57 billion and fails 91% of the time. That’s not a broken product. That’s the business model. Here’s the number, and the moment the fix rebranded. This episode runs alongside this week’s Substack essay, Ten Years of Homework Nobody Assigned — but it doesn’t retell it. Monday was the personal invoice. This is the wide lens. Anastasia follows the money: a personal-development industry worth around $57 billion, growing every year, with coaching as its largest slice — and 74% of self-help books in the US bought by women. Then she follows the failure: 23% of resolutions quit in the first week, 80% gone by February, only 9% surviving a year. A product that fails 91% of the time and still grows isn’t broken. The failure is the repeat purchase. And then the part everyone is hushing: as women finally start leaving optimisation culture, the industry has quietly rebranded — biohacking became “nervous-system regulation,” and the same old practices came back in softer, more clinical language. Same treadmill. New carpet. Anastasia closes on the one question that tells you whether you’re caring for yourself or still managing a woman who was never broken. “A product that fails 91% of the time and still grows every year isn’t broken. The failure isn’t the bug. The failure is the repeat purchase.” Mentioned in this episode ● The essay: Ten Years of Homework Nobody Assigned — Substack link ● Book a single session: Call Link ● Anastasia Unfiltered on Substack: Substack home link Follow & support If this one landed, the kindest thing you can do is subscribe and leave a quick rating or review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. #27. Codependency, Identity & Why Awareness Alone Doesn't Change You — Anastasia Unfiltered

Codependency, Identity & Why Awareness Alone Doesn't Change You — Anastasia UnfilteredI I Broke Up With Him So He'd Come Back I built an entire identity around being indispensable. This episode is about what was underneath it — and why the fix wasn’t more awareness. Episode description This episode is the podcast companion to this week’s Substack piece, María Resuelve — but it doesn’t retell the essay. It goes further: into the identity that was actually running the over-giving pattern, what non-duality did (and didn’t) do to change it, and why the answer was never becoming detached from her own life. Anastasia unpacks the difference between noticing a pattern and actually un-choosing the identity underneath it, shares the one-question practice she still uses to catch herself mid-pattern, and draws a hard line between real freedom and spiritual bypassing dressed up as boundaries. No offer in this one. Some episodes are just for saying the true thing out loud. “The difference isn’t whether I show up. The difference is why. I’m not securing my seat anymore. I’m just sitting in it, because I already have one.” Mentioned in this episode — The essay: La Mujer Que Resuelve — Read Here — Next week: Episode 28 — What Happens When You Stop Trying to Fix Yourself (and my first live announcement in The Presence Room) Follow & support If this one landed, subscribe and leave a quick rating or review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify — it’s the biggest lever for new listeners finding the show. #26 Healing Culture, Self-Improvement Burnout & the Cost of Fixing Yourself — Anastasia Unfiltered

Healing Culture, Self-Improvement Burnout & the Cost of Fixing Yourself — Anastasia Unfiltered Anastasia has spent years and thousands of pounds on courses, retreats, and healing modalities — all built on one quiet belief: that she was a problem to be solved. In this episode, she unpacks why the self-improvement industry never actually delivers the fix it promises, why “a seeker always finds” more evidence of what's wrong, and what changed the moment she asked a different question: what if the premise itself — that she was broken — was a lie? This episode is a companion to this week's Substack essay, The Seeker Always Finds, and marks the start of Anastasia Unfiltered's new chapter — no more themed seasons, just an open, ongoing conversation. Episode 26 of many. If you've ever bought the course, the retreat, or the masterclass that was finally going to be the one, this episode is for you.
