Part 1: Adventures in Missing the Point of Patristic Universalism

Message by Rev. Wendy Burnfield, Founder of Patristic Universalism. Adventures in Missing the Point: Objections to Patristic Universalism Patristic Universalism is often misunderstood before it is truly examined. In this series, we will explore some of the most common objections and ask: Are we actually understanding what Patristic Universalism teaches? We will look at Scripture, the early Church Fathers, judgment, punishment, salvation, hell, and the restoration of all things—while addressing the objections that often cause people to miss the heart of the message: God’s ultimate purpose is not the abandonment of humanity, but restoration through Christ. The Unforgiveable Sin: A Patristic Universalism View

Message by Rev. Wendy Burnfield (Evangelist, Author and Founder of Patristic Universalism). From a Christian universalist perspective, the “unforgivable sin” is not a sin that God refuses to forgive forever. Jesus’ warning about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit points to a hardened resistance to God’s truth and grace. Even so, universalism understands God’s judgment as ultimately restorative: God continues to heal, correct, and reconcile humanity until all things are restored in Christ. The emphasis is not on a sin greater than God’s mercy, but on God’s ultimate victory over sin and death. Visit our website at www.patristicuniversalism.com

    Mid-Week Devotional: Macrina the Younger

Macrina the Younger was one of the most influential women in early Christianity. Sister of Basil the Great and Gregory of Nyssa, she was not simply a family member—she was their teacher and theological influence. Gregory called her “the Teacher” and recorded her profound conversations about the soul, resurrection, suffering, death, and God's ultimate restoration of humanity. Macrina reminds us that theological leadership was never limited to men. Women were teachers, spiritual leaders, philosophers, and theologians who helped shape early Christian thought. Her life is a powerful reminder that the voices of women belong in the story of Christian theology. Macrina's legacy invites us to recover those voices and recognize something the early Church already knew: God does not limit theological wisdom to men.

Origen on Interpeting Scripture: Body, Soul and Spirit

Origen often interpreted Scripture on three levels, corresponding to the body, soul, and spirit: Body (literal): What the biblical story says on its surface and in its historical context.Soul (moral): What the passage teaches about how we should live and grow spiritually.Spirit (spiritual/allegorical): The deeper mystery pointing to Christ, God’s work of redemption, and spiritual realities. For Origen, Scripture could contain multiple layers of meaning, leading the reader from the literal text toward deeper spiritual understanding. Paul's Gratitude for God's Mercy: 1 Timothy 1:12-17

Join us today for worship and contemplation.Paul’s profound gratitude for the grace and mercy of God. Once a persecutor of the church, Paul became a living testimony to a love that refuses to abandon its enemies. His transformation points toward a larger hope: that the same Christ who overcame Paul’s resistance is at work reconciling all creation to God. Paul’s gratitude invites us to trust in a grace powerful enough not merely to offer salvation to all, but ultimately to restore all things in Christ. visit us at www.patristicuniversalism.com Let us know you joined us!
