Border Security Is Not the Finish Line: What Comes Next?

In this short edition of Common Sense for America, Bruce Rutherford revisits his immigration proposal: secure the border, restore cooperation with local law enforcement, deport criminals, and create a path to legal residency and citizenship for immigrants who meet strict requirements. Bruce argues that border security was the first step, and the next challenge is deciding what should happen to people already living in the United States without legal status. His proposal includes two years to legal residency and five years to citizenship for eligible immigrants with clean records. The central question is: **Now that border security has improved, how should America finish its immigration policy?** Watch and share your thoughts in the comments. #Immigration #BorderSecurity #ImmigrationReform #ICE #USPolitics #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford

Character vs. Policy: How Should You Vote for a Candidate You Dislike?

In this episode of Common Sense for America, Bruce Rutherford explores a difficult question facing voters: **Should character or policy matter more when choosing a president?** Bruce presents both sides of the debate. Critics argue that a leader’s temperament can directly affect national policy, while supporters argue that a president’s decisions on taxes, immigration, and government spending matter more than personality. Using historical examples from Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill to Abraham Lincoln and Edwin Stanton, Bruce explains why political disagreement should not mean personal hatred or blind loyalty. He also outlines his three key policy priorities: tax reform, immigration reform, and tackling America’s national debt. The central message is simple: **Vote for the policies you believe in, judge a leader’s conduct, and hold elected officials accountable for their promises.** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. Greenland Deal: Did America Need to Threaten an Ally?

In this episode of Common Sense for America, Bruce Rutherford examines the new U.S. agreement on Greenland and the debate over whether pressure on Denmark was necessary to strengthen America’s Arctic security. Bruce presents both sides of the argument. Critics question whether the agreement delivered enough to justify the damage to trust with a NATO ally. Supporters point to expanded U.S. defense access, restrictions on non-NATO military presence, and growing concerns about Russia, China, and Arctic security. He then looks at the history of the U.S.-Denmark defense agreement and asks a bigger question: **Could America have achieved the same goals through negotiation instead of threats?** Bruce also discusses Greenland’s rare-earth minerals and why securing access to these resources could be the next major challenge. The central question is: **How can America protect its national interests while maintaining trust with its allies?** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. #Greenland #USForeignPolicy #ArcticSecurity #Denmark #NATO #RareEarthMinerals #NationalSecurity #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford

Iran War What Does Winning Actually Look Like

In this episode of *Common Sense for America*, Bruce Rutherford examines the growing debate over the Iran war and the question Washington still needs to answer: **What does winning look like?** Bruce explores the case for winding down the war, including concerns about an undefined objective, the cost of prolonged conflict, and the risk of another forever war. He also presents the case for pressing forward, looking at Iran’s decades-long conflict with the United States, attacks by Iran and its proxies, failed ceasefires, the Strait of Hormuz, and the unresolved nuclear threat. Bruce argues that the real problem is **half-in, half-out warfare** fighting without clearly defining the outcome. He lays out his proposed definition of victory: regime change, the removal of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the mullahs from power, the destruction of Iran’s nuclear threat, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while allowing the Iranian people to determine their own future. The central question is simple: **Can America afford to fight a war without clearly defining what victory means?** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. #IranWar #Iran #USForeignPolicy #MiddleEast #NationalSecurity #StraitOfHormuz #Geopolitics #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford

The Corporate Tax: Who Really Pays It?

In this episode of Common Sense for America, Bruce Rutherford examines America’s corporate income tax and asks a simple question: Who actually pays the corporate tax? Bruce uses the story of Maria, a small-business owner in Baytown, Texas, to explain how the tax code can influence business decisions from when to buy equipment to how companies invest and hire. He presents both sides of the debate. Progressives argue that corporations benefit from public services and should contribute their share. Conservatives argue that corporations don't ultimately pay taxes the cost is passed on through lower wages, higher prices, and lower returns for shareholders. Bruce also explores Estonia’s approach to corporate taxation, the OECD global minimum tax, corporate subsidies, and the connection between corporate taxes, productivity, investment, and job creation. His proposed solution is straightforward: eliminate the corporate income tax and tax income when it reaches individuals instead. The bigger question is: Would removing the corporate tax encourage more investment and job creation, or simply shift the tax burden elsewhere? The Voluntary Tax A Tax You Can Choose to Avoid

In this episode of *Common Sense for America*, Bruce Rutherford introduces a different approach to taxation: a voluntary luxury consumption tax designed to raise revenue without taxing work, wages, or productivity. Bruce compares the progressive and conservative arguments around consumption taxes and explains why the 1990 luxury tax failed. He then presents his proposed **1% tax on luxury purchases above defined thresholds**, gradually increasing to 10% over 10 years. The key principle is simple: **If you cannot afford it, you can avoid it.** From groceries and frozen pizza to a $160,000 Mercedes, Bruce explains how the proposed system would distinguish between necessities and discretionary purchases while allowing Americans to keep more of what they earn. He also discusses how the approach could generate additional revenue while reducing reliance on taxes that discourage work and productivity. The question is: **Would you rather pay a small tax on things you choose to buy or pay higher taxes on the income you work to earn?** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. #TaxReform #ConsumptionTax #LuxuryTax #TaxPolicy #Economy #GovernmentSpending #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford

Social Security Is Running Out of Time: Who Will Pay the Price?

In this episode of *Common Sense for America*, Bruce Rutherford examines the growing Social Security crisis and what could happen when the Retirement Trust Fund is projected to run dry in 2032. Bruce uses the story of Margaret, a 71-year-old former school nurse who spent 40 years paying into Social Security, to explain what the looming benefit cuts could mean for millions of Americans who depend on the program. He presents both the progressive and conservative arguments — from protecting benefits and asking higher earners to contribute more, to modernizing the system as the number of workers supporting each retiree continues to fall. Bruce then explores the biggest proposed fix: **removing the cap on wages subject to Social Security taxes**. He also discusses raising the retirement age gradually, eligibility for non-citizens, and professionally managing Social Security funds. The central question is simple: **Will Washington fix Social Security now, or wait until the automatic cuts arrive in 2032?** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. #SocialSecurity #SocialSecurityCrisis #Retirement #RetirementPlanning #GovernmentSpending #TaxReform #Economy #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford

America’s $40 Trillion Debt Who Will Pay the Bill

America’s $40 Trillion Debt: Who Will Pay the Bill? In this episode of *Common Sense for America*, Bruce Rutherford breaks down America’s growing national debt, the rising cost of interest, and why Washington continues to borrow even while collecting record amounts of revenue. Bruce presents both the progressive and conservative arguments on the debt crisis before examining the bigger problem: **America is spending faster than its economy is growing.** He explains why simply cutting government waste will not solve the problem, why Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and interest payments are driving long-term spending, and how economic growth and spending reductions must work together. Bruce also looks at America’s post-World War II experience with debt and explains why today’s demographic and economic realities make the current challenge different. The common-sense question is simple: **How do we reduce the debt without crushing working families or abandoning the programs Americans depend on?** Watch the full episode and share your thoughts in the comments. #NationalDebt #USDebt #DebtCrisis #Economy #SocialSecurity #GovernmentSpending #TaxReform #FiscalPolicy #CommonSenseForAmerica #BruceRutherford
