Anchor Points

Devin Almonte

There’s theology hiding in ordinary life — in routines, in distractions, in the moments we rush past. Most of us move too quickly to notice. Anchor Points is a short, story-driven devotional hosted by Devin Almonte. Each episode lingers over something familiar and uncovers what Scripture has been saying about it all along. This isn’t a rushed devotional or a motivational boost. It’s steady formation. Quiet conviction. Truth that anchors.

What If God’s Been Doing More Than You Noticed? | Anchor Points | Ep. 98

There’s something special about being genuinely surprised by someone’s kindness. That feeling of, “I can’t believe you did this for me. I wasn’t expecting it.” It fills you with gratitude because suddenly you’re aware of what someone has done for you. That’s how I want to be with God. It’s not that I intentionally push Him away. Sometimes I’m just moving through life, and He’s not really on my mind. But gratitude has a way of bringing my attention back to Him. It helps me notice His mercy, His love, and the ways He’s been carrying me. And maybe that’s where more joy and peace begin—not by pretending everything is easy, but by remembering that God is with us in the good things and the hard things too. A thankful heart helps us see Him again. Scripture (NIV): 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Reflection Questions: What are some things God has done for me that I may have stopped noticing? How could gratitude help me become more aware of God today? What can I thank Him for right now, even in the middle of something difficult? 👉 Join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/DevinAlmonte/ 🎙️ Enjoying the show? Why Does Time With God Keep Getting Pushed Back? | Anchor Points | Ep. 97

I can start the day with the best intentions. I’m going to read God’s Word. I’m going to do the devotional. I’m going to spend time with Him. Then I check my phone, make breakfast, handle one thing after another, and somehow the whole day gets away from me. I think part of the problem is that I keep telling myself I’ll get through everything else first, and then I’ll make time for God. But maybe I have it backwards. Instead of trying to handle the day on my own and come back to Him later, what if I brought Him into it from the beginning? Following God is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. It takes intention. It means choosing Him when other things are competing for my attention. And maybe today the invitation is simply this: don’t wait until everything else is finished. Bring Him with you into it. Scripture (NIV): Proverbs 3:6 — “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Reflection Questions: What usually pushes my time with God further down the list? Am I waiting to finish everything else before bringing God into my day? What would it look like to include Him in what I’m already doing today? 👉 Join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/DevinAlmonte/ 🎙️ Enjoying the show? Scared God Would Change Everything | Anchor Points | Ep. 96

Title: Why I Kept Holding On to the Rocks | Anchor Points | Ep. [###] Apple Title: Why I Kept Holding On to the Rocks | Anchor Points | Ep. [###] Episode Show Notes There was a time when following Christ honestly scared me. I was curious about God, but I also had parts of my life I wasn’t ready to hand over. They were familiar, even when I knew they were weighing me down. I picture it now like standing in front of God with my arms full of heavy rocks, telling Him I’m not ready to give them up. Not because the rocks are good, but because they’re mine. I know them. Letting go means trusting Him with what comes next. Maybe you have a few rocks too. We don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to Christ. We can simply begin to know Him, trust Him, and discover that what He gives us is so much better than what we were afraid to release. Scripture (NIV): Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Reflection Questions: What am I holding onto because it feels familiar, even if it feels heavy? What makes it difficult for me to trust God with that part of my life? What would taking one small step toward Christ look like today? 👉 Join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/DevinAlmonte/ 🎙️ Enjoying the show? Why We Avoid the Ugly Carrots | Anchor Points | Ep. 94

I can open a bag of baby carrots and somehow still find myself searching for the most perfectly shaped ones. The odd-looking carrots stay behind because, apparently, even my snacks have to meet some strange standard of perfection. But those little carrots got me thinking about how easily we do the same thing with ourselves. We can spend so much energy trying to become a cleaner, prettier, more acceptable version of who we think we should be. God isn’t asking us to manufacture a perfect version of ourselves. Our value isn’t found in looking polished. Maybe there’s some freedom today in remembering that He sees beyond appearances and knows us completely. Scripture (NIV): 1 Samuel 16:7 — “But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’” Reflection Questions: Where am I putting pressure on myself to look or seem perfect? What parts of myself am I tempted to hide or change just to feel more acceptable? How might my day change if I remembered that God looks at the heart? 👉 Join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/DevinAlmonte/ 🎙️ Enjoying the show? Why Your Brain Suddenly Goes Blank | Anchor Points | Ep. 93

You know that feeling when you can picture exactly what you’re trying to say, but the word just won’t come? I’ve stood there trying to describe a laundry basket as “the big thing I use for dirty clothes.” The answer is somewhere in my brain. I just can’t quite reach it. Technology can be helpful when those gaps happen. It can give us the answer almost instantly. But that made me think about something deeper: getting the answer isn’t the same as renewing our minds. The same is true in our faith. Christian books, podcasts, quotes, and even technology can be helpful, but they can’t replace time in God’s Word. Our minds don’t just need more information. They need the truth of Christ taking root in us. Scripture (NIV): Romans 12:2 — “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Reflection Questions: What am I relying on most to shape my thoughts right now? Am I making space for God’s Word or mostly consuming things about God? What is one simple way I can spend time in Scripture today? 👉 Join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/DevinAlmonte/ 🎙️ Enjoying the show?
