Scripture Matters Podcast — S2E13 — Heaven Matters

What makes Heaven…Heaven? For many of us, Heaven has been described in terms of what it looks like—streets of gold, gates of pearl, beauty beyond imagination. Others think first about the people they hope to see again. But when Jesus spoke about what was waiting for His people, He pointed to something even greater: “I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3). Heaven is ultimately about being with Him. In the Season 2 finale of Scripture Matters, Jonathan and Cliff bring the entire season full circle. We have talked about freedom, marriage, forgiveness, unity, truth, the church, prayer, worship, peace, providence, faithfulness, and hope—but where is a life of trusting Christ actually leading? Through passages including John 14, John 17, Revelation 21–22, 1 Corinthians 15, and Philippians 3, we consider the promise of resurrection, the defeat of death, the end of mourning and pain, and the incredible assurance that a life faithfully given to Christ is never wasted. But Heaven is not merely something Christians wait for someday. If this really is where we are going—if we really will see His face—then that promise ought to shape the way we forgive, serve, worship, endure, love one another, and live right now. After an entire season of asking why these things matter, we arrive at the destination toward which every one of them has been pointing. Scripture Matters Podcast — S2E12 — Hope Matters

What does Christian hope look like when life does not unfold the way we expected? In Season 2, Episode 12 of the Scripture Matters Podcast, Jonathan Sanford and Cliff Thompson explore the difference between ordinary wishful thinking and the kind of hope Scripture gives the Christian—a hope anchored in God Himself, His promises, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Beginning with a family emerging from a storm shelter to find their home devastated, the conversation asks what hope means when life is shaken, when suffering continues, when we are waiting for answers, or when something lost cannot simply be rebuilt the way it was before. Jonathan and Cliff discuss how biblical hope affects the way we live today, why hope and obedience belong together, how Christians can have confidence after failure, and why waiting does not mean God has forgotten us. Christian hope does not require us to pretend pain is small. It gives us something strong enough to hold onto while the pain is still real. And ultimately, our hope is not that every circumstance in this life will work out exactly the way we want. Our hope has an empty tomb behind it. Jesus Christ walked out of the grave—and because He lives, even death does not get to write the final sentence. Scripture Matters Podcast — S2E10 — Providence Matters

Scripture Matters Podcast — S2E10: “Providence Matters” Was that God—or was it simply coincidence? Sometimes a door closes that we desperately wanted open. A plan falls apart. Someone enters our life at exactly the right moment. A prayer seems to be answered in a way we never expected. Looking back, the pieces can appear to fit together almost perfectly—but how confidently can we say, “God did that”? In this week’s episode of the Scripture Matters Podcast, Jonathan Sanford and Cliff Thompson take a thoughtful, practical look at the providence of God and what Scripture actually allows us to say about His working in our lives. Through Esther’s “Who knows?”, Paul’s “Perhaps” in Philemon, Joseph’s suffering and redemption, and the promise of Romans 8:28, Jonathan and Cliff explore the difference between trusting God’s unseen hand and claiming knowledge He has never revealed. Along the way, they discuss the difference between providence and miracles, human responsibility, “open doors,” answered prayer, suffering, and why “God caused it” and “God used it” are not always the same statement. Perhaps one of the most important lessons is this: Providence should increase our trust without increasing our arrogance. We may not always know why one door opened or another one closed. We may never receive an explanation for every painful circumstance. But faith does not require us to invent an explanation in order to trust God. God’s providence doesn’t mean we can always see His hand—it means we can trust His hand even when we cannot see it. Join the conversation for S2E10 — “Providence Matters.” Support the show
