On the last Friday of every month, Dr. James Wysong, Dean of Arts and Design at SFCC, and Milton Reiss, Co-Chair of the Film Department at SFCC, discuss everything from how culture impacts film and vice versa to their love of the sci-fi genre. Nazneen Akhtar Rahim is a British American actor. Originally from London, Nazneen studied Law at the University of Westminster, graduating with honors, following which she practiced human rights law.     Lisa Kori

    Lisa Kori is a filmmaker and musician based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her short films have won several awards including Best Experimental Film at the Mindfield Film Festival in Albuquerque, Best Poetic Film at the Madrid Film Festival in Madrid (New Mexico), and Finalist for the Lichter Art Award at Lichter Film Festival in Frankfurt, Germany. Her short film, 'The Four Silences', recently brought home Best Music Video at Austin Shorts Fest in Texas for the combination of documentary and musical performance. As a musician who participates in the thriving Americana music scene in the Southwest, 'The Four Silences' is about her search for early Asian-American music as she tries to understand why her musical roots are not well represented in greater American culture. The next screening of 'The Four Silences' is at the Sovereign Lens Film Festival in Albuquerque on October 15.

    Andy Bui

    Andy Bui is a Vietnamese-Chinese American filmmaker, producer, and creative entrepreneur based in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the son of two immigrants. After years of chasing creative ideas, he found his calling in cinematography while earning a BFA in Interdisciplinary Film and Digital Media at the University of New Mexico, with a summer of study at Dongguk University in Seoul. He started Istoria Productions in 2018 and then moved into New Mexico's booming film industry. He worked in camera departments on productions including Netflix's The Harder They Fall and Blumhouse's Vengeance. Alongside that, he shot narrative shorts such as Dandelion's Promise, Hair Like Snow, and Sundown. Since 2023, Andy has been a producer and director at Sandia National Laboratories. He makes documentary-style series and award-submission films that turn complex science into human stories. Outside the lab, he builds spaces for Albuquerque's Asian American community.     Otgadahe Whitman-Fox

    Otgadahe Whitman-Fox is known for her work in Big Sky, The Clean Lady, Duster, and most recent Marshals on CBS. She has been working  in film since 2015. Contributing her skills behind and in front of the camera. Working her way from production assistant all the way to recurring guest star and everything in between. Directing and producing her own film “We are Still Here" in collaboration with a larger film “Entanglement” produced with Voices of Women of Australia. Her film won “Best Short” in Latino & Native American Film Festival in 2023. She has attended Cannes Film Festival with Women in Film International and has always put her culture at the forefront. Otgadahe comes from the Three Affiliated Tribes, Nueta-Hidatsa-Sah’nish from the Ft. Berthold Reservation in North Dakota. She is proud to represent her First Nations culture and always willing to put the word out that "representation matters” and so do our stories.

    Jeremy ReoNason & Gary Choi

    Jeremy ReoNason is an actor, martial artist, and stunt performer located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He spent his youth and early adulthood growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania cultivating a deep love for film and on screen performances. During his college years attending The University of Pittsburgh he studied Theatre Arts and Film Studies alongside his major of Forensic Investigation and Behavioral Sciences, all of which contributed to his passion for character study and character driven storytelling. At twenty five years old he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to pursue his ambition of becoming a dramatic actor.  Jeremy accelerated his break into the industry by leveraging not only his training as an actor, but his skills as a physical performer as well. Capitalizing on two decades of martial arts training in various styles such as Tang Soo Do, kickboxing, and traditional jujutsu, combined with a high degree of general physical ability, he joined up with Rising Star Stunt Team to become a stunt performer and action actor. Now, nearly two years into his career, Jeremy has worked on over two dozen projects across the southwest as a dramatic actor, action actor, or stunt performer. He continues to push onwards towards a greater range of dramatic roles that fulfill his spirit as an actor. Gary Choi is an fight/stunt coordinator and assistant director, known for Infrared Dreams (2020), Jurassic Thunder (2019) and Curse of the Ark Exitus (2021).A lifelong marital artist in Chinese kung fu has been practicing martial art since he was 7 years old. He has trained and competed in Sanshou, Chinese Kung Fu,and has some training in Karate, boxing, and various other martial arts. He later would have the good fortune on being to work on a several projects and sets for stunt work. Dropping out of film for a bit to focus on martial arts and school. He later was able to work on Lone Ranger as a background and miner for stunts. Gary has been able to train with many amazing stunt professionals such as Mike Chat of XMA and Kisu Stars. Currently Gary has been training a stunt team and martial arts courses and bringing martial arts in movies to life as a choreographer, fight director, and stunt coordinator

    Sheypan Draus

    Sheypan Draus is a character actor born in Poland. He reads, writes and is fluent in English and Polish. Sheypan and his family moved to the U.S. in the early 80's to pursue a better life. He does not come from a theatrical background, but was given the artistic and creative gene from his mother's side. His grandfather was a painter, and although Sheypan enjoys painting, his favorite mediums to use are colored and charcoal pencils. He designed the artwork for his graduating classes, in the San Fernando Valley, CA.Growing up, thoughts of being in the film industry never crossed his mind. He grew up very shy, and didn't come out of his shell until his early twenties. Sheypan first realized he caught the acting bug in 6th grade, when his whole class got to write and create their own educational videos. It was later shared with other surrounding schools, to help teach and promote positivity. It wasn't until years later, that he entertained the idea again.Not knowing where to begin, he figured the best way to break into the industry would be background work, student films, and shorts. His first time on an actual movie set was on The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (as an extra). He soon became a regular featured "mascot" for all the high school scenes on Party Of Five. It was then that he was able to join SAG and got his first agent. From then on, Sheypan started auditioning regularly, and took advantage of looking like he was still in his teens, while in his early 20's. Some small roles in film and television, as well as National Commercials, soon followed. This was during the late 90's when "teen" movie roles were booming.Taking a break from Hollywood, he spent the next decade working in Technology. But as fate would have it, Albuquerque would soon become a hot commodity for the film industry, and the acting bug came back stronger than ever. Over the last few years, Sheypan was lucky to get signed by a SAG franchised agent, and booked his first role since moving out of LA. In 2018 he co-starred opposite Bob Odenkirk as a skeevy low-life on the Emmy nominated Better Call Saul. He continues to train and is dedicated to bringing broken and tore down characters to life. Once again, he found his passion for acting thanks to the NM film community.

    Christian Dalton

    Christian Dalton, better known simply as Dalton nowadays in New Mexico, was born in the heart of London, England. His first professional theater job came as a teenager, where he was cast as the dance captain and lead understudy for a pantomime alongside some of the UK's most loved celebrities in the 90's. That was the moment the acting bug took hold. Shortly after, Christian received a full-scholarship to an acting and musical theater college.  With family ties to Charlie Chaplin, Christian tested the waters in stage plays, musicals, and murder mysteries across the UK and Australia. In 2007, his curiosity began shifting toward film and screen acting. Having worked as a model in his younger years, cameras and lighting were no strangers to him. But he recognized that screen acting was a completely different animal from live theater. In 2015, he was scouted by 'Industry Hollywood,' a networking company that assembles a small group of actors before presenting them with a series of meetings and auditions in and around Hollywood with some of the industry's most seasoned professionals. In 2016, Christian moved to the US, spending much of his first two years based in California and competing with the best of them. As he continued his training, an unexpected second profession emerged: police officer. Today, on top of acting, Christian is an indie film producer and investor, an award-winning screenwriter, and the founder of a brand-new theater production company and film festival. By creating his own acting opportunities, he has carved out his place within the entertainment industry. But he claims he will always be a thespian first.

    Founder of Broken Bicycle Films Sam Quinn

    Sam Quinn is an award-winning actor, filmmaker, casting director, and acting coach from Taos, New Mexico. Raised by visual artists, he developed a love for storytelling at an early age. After studying musical theatre at the Northeast School of the Arts in San Antonio, Texas, Sam earned a BFA in Acting with a minor in Contemporary Music from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Sam began his career in Chicago's vibrant theater community, performing in numerous stage productions while writing and producing two original rock musicals. He later transitioned to film and television, appearing in projects including American Primeval, Better Call Saul, Jane Got a Gun, Only the Brave, Eddington, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Pluribus, among many others. As the founder of Broken Bicycle Films, Sam has written, directed, and produced award-winning short films, a television pilot, music videos, and commercial content. His work has been recognized at film festivals for its blend of humor, heart, and authentic storytelling. In addition to acting and filmmaking, Sam teaches and coaches actors while working as a casting director for non-union commercial campaigns throughout New Mexico, helping connect local talent with opportunities in the state's thriving film industry. Whether directing, acting, teaching, or casting, Sam is passionate about creating stories that celebrate humor, vulnerability, and the beautifully imperfect nature of being human.

    Santa Fe International Film Festival Artistic Director and Founding Member Jacques Paisner

    In this episode, guest host Genevieve Trainor speaks with Santa Fe International Film Festival Artistic Director and Founding Member Jacques Paisner about the festival and his thoughts for independent filmmakers on getting your work seen.   The 18th annual Santa Fe International Film Festival runs October 14–19, 2026. Founded in 2009, the festival is now an Academy Award-qualifying festival for narrative, documentary and animated short films. The full 2026 schedule will be released in September.   Jacques is the former director of programming at the Jean Cocteau Cinema and has served on the Mayor’s Santa Fe Film Commission. He now serves on the advisory board for the California American Indian Film Festival and is executive producer on the upcoming film HEATWAVES. He’s also president of the Santa Fe Film Institute, which supports independent filmmaking and New Mexico filmmakers through grants, fiscal sponsorship, mentorship and other year-round programs.   To learn more and find festival and pass information, visit santafe.film.
