A Crotchety Podcast

Chris Fordham/David Luck

Welcome to A Crotchety Podcast! Isn't music a nice thing? We (Chris Fordham and David Luck) certainly think so: as well as playing in a band together, we wanted to share our great love of music with all of you. Truth is, there's FAR too much that doesn't get the love it deserves, so as well as the stuff that everyone's heard of, we'll be introducing you (and each other!) to a ton of tracks we're certain you'll never have heard before! When we say underrated, some of this stuff is so obscure, you can't even listen to it online!! There'll be regular guests and no limits on decade or genre! We hope you'll join us on this journey of discovery with a splash of sense of humour and general chat thrown in!

Episode 35 - My Career to Date Has Not Involved Any Groupies

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Music fans, if any episode of A Crotchety Podcast turns you onto a new kind of music that you've never really explored, it might just be this one! Chris and David are joined once again by comedian Lizzy Lenco and this week, the question we're asking is what songs might you show to people who aren't normally fans of your favourite areas of music? Whether you would play something less hardcore to slowly ease people into what you listen to or whether there are songs you know that are just so brilliant you think one listen would be enough to convert them, we explore both paths here! Tune in here for reactions to songs by Parkway Drive, Whitesnake, Model Actress and more! If that's not enough, there's a cool crowd surfing story too! Episode 33 - I Feel My Pulse Oscillating

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Great news music fans: not only are Chris and David back with more great songs, but they have a new guest accompanying them! Joining them for this outing is a mate of David's from the comedy circuit: it's acclaimed comedian and writer Lizzy Lenco! In this episode, Lizzy introduces the boys to something that has been a part of her own life: the concept of 'torch songs'. These are pieces of music that are used to try and bring people out of their darkest moments and back to a better place, whether that's playing them to someone in a coma, using them to help people with brain injuries or dementia, someone listening when they are suffering from depression, or something else entirely. Torch songs are testament to the power that music really wields. Everyone has chosen examples of tracks they could consider to be personal torch songs and these range from acts such as The Sisters of Mercy, Slash and Primal Scream to many others, including a very obscure band called V8 Pack! There's also an anecdote about attacking Jason Momoa, which apparently was accidental...... On a serious note, please do look out for each other and take care of yourselves. We hope our show has been able to bring you some kind of joy but if you are ever in need of help, please talk to someone. It might sound like a cliché, but that's because it works. Remember, there's always someone who's willing to listen and you deserve the best. Episode 29 - Seven Hours at Glastonbury Looking for His Teeth

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Welcome music fans! Not only do Chris and David have some more fantastic tunes to share with you, but they are joined by a brand new guest! This man is a comedy promoter who gave David his first ever stand-up gig (for better or worse) as well as a huge music fan, DJ and very regular concert-goer: it's Nottingham-based entertainer Mike Bottomley A.K.A. Spiky Mike! This show is also guaranteed to bring you some stellar song choices because the guys have picked songs from what they consider to be non-skip albums. Amongst the offerings on display are ones from Sex Pistols, Boston, The Prodigy and The Flaming Lips! Oh, and the episode title doesn't refer to anyone featured, honestly.
