The Good Gift Foundation

The Good Gift Podcast features honest conversations with men and women from every walk of life as they share how Jesus Christ changed their story. From business leaders to teachers, former criminals to lifelong churchgoers, each episode explores where they came from, what shaped them, what broke, and how faith transformed their understanding of purpose, generosity, and identity. Rooted in the mission of The Good Gift Foundation, this podcast reflects a simple conviction: that every good gift comes from God, and that a life surrendered to Christ reshapes how we live, give, and love. Whether you’re exploring faith, returning to it, or walking with Christ already, these conversations are an invitation to consider what He may be doing in your own story. We start at Episode 99 as a reminder that God has already been writing the story long before the microphone turned on.

96 - Broken and Sent: One Man’s Journey From Oklahoma to Africa with Jerry Lout

Share Your Story or Prayer Request Here!  Welcome to the Good Gift Podcast!  欢迎来到 Good Gift 播客。   Bienvenidos al podcast Good Gift.   गुड गिफ्ट पॉडकास्ट में आपका स्वागत है।   مرحبًا بكم في بودكاست Good Gift.   Bem-vindos ao podcast Good Gift.   Good Gift ポッドキャストへようこそ。  If your language isn't represented here, please know that you're just as welcome. We're grateful you're here, and we pray the Lord blesses you and keeps you.   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry grew up the youngest child of Dust Bowl migrants, in a family that found faith through grief. By age nine, he was paralyzed from the waist down his second bout with polio, while a small Oklahoma church prayed him back to his feet when doctors had stopped expecting it. But behind the miracle was a quieter story: decades of hidden shame, a teenage rebellion that nearly destroyed everything, and a God who seemed determined to build something out of the wreckage anyway. What followed was a life that reads like it was arranged from the outside: a motorcycle ride to a city he didn’t know, a phone book opened to a random church, and a pastor’s daughter who had told her parents at age nine she wanted to be a missionary to Africa. By 1972, Jerry and his wife Ann were boarding a plane at JFK, Kenya-bound, with Ann seven and a half months pregnant. Jerry talks openly about spiritual warfare in rural Africa, the dangers of theological tribalism, what it costs to stay vulnerable in ministry, and what it actually means to know Christ rather than just know about him. This one is worth settling in for. Prayer, Praise & Confession Prayer: Jerry has a heart catheterization coming up and asks for prayer over the procedure and results. Confession: A tendency to breeze past the Holy Spirit’s promptings, conviction, needed correction, and the pursuit of Jesus himself. Genuine and ongoing. Praise: Gratitude for his wife Ann, for the local body of Christ, and for brothers safe enough to be vulnerable with.

    Believe IN or Believe THAT??

Share Your Story or Prayer Request Here! What does it really mean to believe? In this episode of the Good Gift Podcast, the conversation tackles a critical distinction many overlook: the difference between believing that something is true and believing in it with full trust and surrender. Using a vivid illustration of the 19th-century tightrope walker Charles Blondin, this episode explores how it’s possible to acknowledge truth intellectually while still refusing to trust it personally. That same tension is then examined through Scripture. Walking through passages from James, 1 John, the Gospels, and beyond, this episode unpacks:  Why even demons “believe” — and why that belief doesn’t save  The biblical difference between head knowledge and heart transformation  How faith and works relate without contradicting grace  The role of repentance in genuine faith  Practical ways to examine whether your faith is real This is not a surface-level discussion. It directly addresses cultural Christianity, false assurance, and the danger of reducing faith to mere words or feelings. Whether you’re confident in your faith, struggling with doubt, or questioning what true belief actually looks like, this episode aims to point you back to Scripture and challenge you to examine where you stand. The invitation is simple:  Don’t settle for believing that. Seek to truly believe in.  Scripture quotations are taken from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, copyright © 1996, 2004, 2015 by Tyndale House Foundation.
