    You Can’t Out-Tough Addiction | Eric Metcalf’s Journey Through Recovery – Part 1 | Episode 33

You Can’t Out-Tough Addiction | Eric Metcalf’s Journey Through Recovery – Part 1 | Episode 33What happens when the strength and discipline that carried you through life are no longer enough? In Episode 33 of Rebuild & Fulfill, Kelsey Dunbar and Marc Rogala sit down with Army veteran, recovery advocate, author, and NAMI DuPage Director of Peer Workforce Development Eric Metcalf for Part 1 of an incredibly raw conversation about addiction, military service, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, recovery, purpose, and learning to accept help. Eric shares why discipline alone couldn’t overcome addiction, what happened when drinking became intertwined with military brotherhood, and the difficult transition back into civilian life. He also opens up about receiving his PTSD and traumatic brain injury diagnoses and the realization that while he was helping other veterans piece their lives back together, his own life was being pieced back together too. One of the most powerful moments comes as Eric shares the story of Nate, a veteran he tried desperately to help who later died by suicide. The experience forced Eric to confront one of the hardest lessons for anyone who dedicates their life to helping others: You can care deeply. You can show up. You can give someone everything you know how to give. But you cannot control every outcome. And when Marc reveals that Eric later helped him through an eerily similar experience, the conversation takes an unexpected and deeply personal turn. 📖 AVAILABLE TODAY: Beyond the Shadows: A Search for METhe timing of this episode couldn’t be better. Eric’s book is officially published TODAY! Beyond the Shadows: A Search for ME takes readers deeper into a journey inspired by Eric’s experiences with addiction, trauma, loss, recovery, identity, and the search to understand who we are beyond the things that have happened to us. Get Eric’s new book here: Beyond the Shadows: A Search for ME on Amazon This is only Part 1 of Eric’s story. It’s a conversation about recovery, resilience, brotherhood, purpose, and why sometimes real strength isn’t about fighting harder. Sometimes it’s about finally allowing someone else to help carry you. And Eric’s story is far from over. Part 2 coming soon. #RebuildAndFulfill #EricMetcalf #BeyondTheShadows #AddictionRecovery #MentalHealth #Veterans #PTSD #RecoveryJourney #Resilience #NAMI

Learning to Trust Yourself Again | Amy Lenius on Self-Worth, Self-Belief & Growth | Episode 32

What happens when you stop doubting yourself and finally learn to trust your own voice, your own experiences, and your own ability to create change? In Episode 32 of Rebuild & Fulfill, Kelsey Dunbar and Marc Rogala sit down with Amy Lenius, Director of Group Coaching at Next Level University, professional speaker, coach, and event MC, for a powerful conversation about self-worth, self-belief, self-trust, consistency, chronic illness, personal development, identity, and creating lasting change. Amy's journey toward helping others began with her own struggle. After years of living with endometriosis and chronic illness, Amy experienced surgeries, medications, pain, and times when she felt unheard by the medical system. Eventually, she realized she needed to become an active participant in her own health and learn to advocate for herself. Years later, that self-trust was tested again when Amy repeatedly sought medical help for pain she knew was different. After initially being sent home, further investigation ultimately revealed an internal bleed requiring emergency surgery. She knew something wasn't right. Learning to trust herself mattered. That journey helped shape a philosophy Amy now brings to her coaching and personal development work: lasting transformation isn't simply about knowing more. It's about developing the internal foundation that allows you to actually change. Amy shares her Three Gears of Success: Self-Worth. Self-Belief. Consistency. We explore the difference between self-worth and self-belief, why confidence is often built through action rather than waiting to feel ready, and how keeping small promises to yourself can gradually rebuild trust in who you are and what you're capable of becoming. We also discuss: • Rebuilding self-trust after difficult experiences • Self-advocacy and learning to listen to yourself • Self-worth vs. self-belief • Why motivation alone doesn't create lasting change • Building consistency through small, sustainable habits • Breaking the all-or-nothing mindset • Perfectionism and personal growth • Identity and behavior change • Creating success that actually feels fulfilling • Why knowing what to do isn't the same as consistently doing it Amy's message is a powerful reminder that personal growth doesn't require changing everything overnight. Sometimes rebuilding starts much smaller: Trust yourself again. Keep one promise to yourself. Then build from there. If you've ever struggled with self-doubt, confidence, consistency, self-worth, or trusting yourself enough to make a change, this episode of Rebuild & Fulfill is for you. 🎙️ Episode 32: Learning to Trust Yourself Again | Amy Lenius on Self-Worth, Self-Belief & Growth Connect with Amy Lenius: Instagram: @amylenius Facebook: Amy Lenius Next Level University: Group Coaching #SelfWorth #SelfBelief #PersonalGrowth #SelfTrust #RebuildAndFulfill

Amputee Firefighter Battles PTSD & Rebuilds His Life | Darren Richardson | Episode 31

What happens when a firefighter, paramedic, and amputee who spent years helping other people through their worst moments realizes he needs help himself? In Episode 31 of Rebuild & Fulfill, Kelsey Dunbar sits down with former firefighter and paramedic Darren Richardson for a powerful conversation about PTSD, amputation, mental health, resilience, identity, addiction, and rebuilding your life after adversity. Darren's story of resilience began at just 13 years old, when a massive boulder crushed his foot during a hiking accident. Doctors initially believed he might lose his leg. He ultimately lost two toes and was told he may never rock climb or ski again. Three months later, he was rock climbing. By that winter, he was skiing and racing again. That experience helped shape a mindset Darren would need again decades later. Darren went on to spend nearly 20 years as a firefighter and paramedic, a career he loved so deeply that being a firefighter became part of his identity. But years of traumatic calls began taking their toll. PTSD, depression, alcohol, family struggles, and eventually leaving the fire service sent Darren into one of the darkest periods of his life. Despite years of helping other people, Darren didn't initially recognize PTSD in himself. At rock bottom, with his family at risk and his life unraveling, he finally sought professional help. Darren says walking into a therapist's office was harder than running into a burning building. But asking for help became the beginning of his rebuild. Then life tested him again. While training to return to the fire service, complications from his original injury resulted in a transmetatarsal amputation, removing part of his foot. Once again, Darren was told there were things he might never do again, including running, jumping, and surfing. Once again, he challenged those limitations. Just three months after his amputation, Darren was wake surfing with his daughters on Father's Day. Today, he runs, mountain bikes, trains, and uses everything he's experienced to help others overcome their own challenges. Today Darren is the founder of Ashes to Ascent Coaching, where he works as a mindset, resilience, and mental performance coach, with a particular passion for helping first responders, veterans, amputees, and people rebuilding after adversity. In this conversation, we explore PTSD in first responders, losing your identity after leaving a career, alcohol and depression, the courage to ask for help, rebuilding after amputation, resilience and mental performance, changing destructive habits, therapy versus coaching, and why other people don't get to determine the limits of your future. One of Darren's most powerful lessons is also one of the simplest: Don't let somebody else set your limits. Your past may explain your story, but it never has to define your future. The Transformation Gap Summit | Why We’re Building Something Different | Episode 30

What happens when you know what you need to do—but still struggle to actually do it? That's The Transformation Gap: the space between knowing what needs to change and being able to create real, lasting change in your life. And it's the idea behind The Transformation Gap Summit (TTGS). In this special episode of Rebuild & Fulfill, Kelsey Dunbar and Marc Rogala explore why personal transformation can be so difficult—even when we already have the knowledge. From mindset and habits to health, relationships, business, career, identity, recovery, and personal growth, the Transformation Gap can show up almost anywhere. So how do we close it? That's the question behind TTGS. The Transformation Gap Summit will bring together dozens of speakers with different backgrounds, experiences, and approaches to transformation—because sometimes the breakthrough isn't learning something completely new. Sometimes it's hearing the right idea, from the right person, in a way that finally clicks. You'll also get a first look at The Gap, a new series of short Rebuild & Fulfill episodes introducing speakers from The Transformation Gap Summit. These brief conversations will help you meet the speakers, understand why they joined TTGS, hear what the Transformation Gap means through their lens, and discover which Summit sessions you don't want to miss. Because knowing what to do and actually doing it aren't the same thing. Sometimes you already know what needs to change. You just haven't discovered how to make that change stick. And sometimes... that's where transformation starts. #TransformationGap #TransformationGapSummit #PersonalGrowth #PersonalTransformation #LastingChange

The Weight of "If Only": Letting Go of the Regret That Keeps You Stuck

How many times have you replayed a conversation, a decision, or a moment in your life wondering… "If only?" Regret has a way of convincing us that we're responsible for outcomes we could never fully control. Left unchecked, those "if onlys" become emotional weight that keeps us stuck. In this episode of Rebuild & Fulfill, Kelsey Dunbar sits down with attorney, keynote speaker, and creator of the Regret to Resilience Method, Stephanie Renner, for a powerful conversation about overcoming regret, healing after loss, mental health, self-forgiveness, and building resilience. After the devastating loss of her 18-year-old son, Jordan, Stephanie found herself replaying every decision, questioning every choice, and putting herself on trial. Through that journey, she discovered that healing isn't about finding a way back—it's about finding a way forward. Together, Kelsey and Stephanie explore: • Why regret becomes so difficult to let go of • The weight of the "if onlys" and how to release them • Why your worth is not determined by the outcome • The difference between moving on and moving forward • How to stop prosecuting yourself and begin rebuilding your life • The connection between grief, guilt, shame, and personal growth Whether you're navigating the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a career setback, or simply carrying the weight of past decisions, this conversation offers practical tools, hope, and a path toward emotional healing, resilience, and renewed purpose. Why You'll Never Feel Good Enough | The Comparison Trap | Episode 27

Why do so many capable, successful people still struggle with feeling like they're falling behind? In this solo episode of the Rebuild & Fulfill Podcast, Kelsey Dunbar explores a challenge that almost every one of us faces—but few of us recognize until it's already shaping the way we see ourselves. We often assume comparison is the problem. But what if comparison isn't the trap at all? What if the real danger is the story we begin telling ourselves after we compare our lives to someone else's? In this episode, Kelsey introduces The Comparison Trap—a framework for understanding why comparison quietly steals confidence, fuels self-doubt, and keeps us stuck believing we'll never be enough. You'll discover: • Why comparison itself isn't the enemy • How self-worth becomes tied to someone else's success • Why social media can distort our perspective • The difference between healthy comparison and destructive comparison • The one comparison that actually helps you grow • How to stop measuring your life against someone else's timeline This conversation also builds on the ideas introduced in The Transformation Gap, continuing the discussion about why lasting change is often harder than simply knowing what to do. Whether you're rebuilding after burnout, navigating grief, growing a business, improving your health, or simply trying to become a stronger version of yourself, this episode offers a practical mindset shift that can change the way you see your own journey. Because your greatest competition has never been someone else. It's the story you've been believing about yourself.
