Real Estate, Sales & Self-Belief with Former MLB Pro DJ Thielen | Seeding Greatness Podcast

What happens when your talent is bigger than your belief about where you belong? That is where this conversation with DJ Thielen went. DJ is a former professional baseball player, real estate investor, entrepreneur, mentor, and sales leader who has spent more than two decades building businesses and helping people create greater financial freedom through real estate. But this episode is about much more than buying houses. It’s about real estate, sales, and self-belief—and what actually separates people who admire freedom from people who eventually build it. DJ dreamed about becoming a professional baseball player as a kid. Years later, that dream became real. But one of the biggest moments in this conversation came when Darryll asked why DJ never really saw himself reaching the major leagues. DJ’s answer: “I knew that I was talented enough. I just didn’t know my self-worth.” That opened up a much bigger conversation. Because sometimes the problem isn’t talent. Sometimes your ability has already qualified you for a level your identity still doesn’t believe you belong in. From there, Darryll and DJ get into the real work behind building freedom: Mentorship. Coachability. Real estate. Sales. Execution. Faith. Grit. And learning not to pull the ripcord every time something doesn’t go according to plan. DJ shares how he entered real estate without a family background in investing or wealth creation. His mother rented her entire life. His family knew how to save, but they were never taught how to multiply money. Then his first real estate experience included buying a package of houses and discovering that one of the properties had literally been torn down. He could have quit. He didn’t. That mindset eventually became part of how he built a career across thousands of real estate transactions and began helping other people navigate the same game. 6 RICHEST MOMENTS 1. TALENT VS. SELF-WORTH DJ explains why being talented enough for the next level didn’t automatically mean he believed he belonged there. 2. WHY MENTORSHIP MATTERS Both DJ and Darryll talk about the cost of figuring everything out alone and why the right mentor can help you see possibilities you may not yet see for yourself. 3. STOP PULLING THE RIPCORD A bad first deal does not always mean you chose the wrong path. Sometimes resistance is simply where the real education begins. 4. MOST PEOPLE DON’T NEED MORE INFORMATION DJ says: “Most people don’t need more information; they need instruction.” Then they have to be coachable enough to take it and disciplined enough to execute it. 5. SALES IS A SKILL—AND A SERVICE This conversation turns into a real sales masterclass. DJ breaks down rapport, discovery, understanding the customer’s gap, uncovering their emotional why, creating a clear path forward, and delivering on what you sell. His central point: Stop trying to get what you want and start helping people get what they want. 6. SOLICIT THE TRUTH Darryll shares how he used to let prospects walk away at the first objection because he didn’t want to manipulate anyone. Then he realized something: Sometimes “I don’t have the money” really means: I’m afraid. Sometimes “I need more time” is not actually about time. DJ gives language to what great salespeople do instead: Solicit the truth. Not pressure. Not manipulation. Ask better questions until both people understand what is actually driving the decision. I Am Who God Says I Am: Breaking Limiting Beliefs | Dr. Genie Burnett | Seeding Greatness Podcast

What if the behaviors you’ve been trying to change are connected to pain you’ve never fully understood? On this episode of The Seeding Greatness Podcast, Darryll Stinson sits down with Dr. Genie Burnett, a psychologist with decades of experience helping people understand their emotional wounds, family patterns, and path toward healing. Genie shares her personal journey through an eating disorder, the impact of childhood experiences and shame, and the therapeutic breakthrough that helped her understand the pain beneath her behavior. Together, she and Darryll explore why healing requires more than inspiration—and how faith, self-understanding, and doing the deeper work can help us move toward freedom. One of the most powerful reminders in this conversation is simple:“I am who God says I am.” Not who shame says you are. Not who your past says you are. Not who someone who hurt you says you are. In this conversation, you’ll discover: - How childhood experiences can shape the beliefs we carry into adulthood - Why shame can cover up pain instead of helping us heal it - How coping behaviors may be connected to deeper emotional wounds - Why understanding family dynamics matters when breaking unhealthy patterns - How Genie integrates psychological tools and Christian faith in her therapeutic Bible study - Why inspiration alone isn’t enough—and how applying what you learn creates change Genie’s message is a reminder that our struggles do not make us broken beyond understanding. When we begin to understand the roots of our patterns, we can make room for new choices, healthier relationships, and a more grounded sense of identity. ABOUT DR. Faith, Female Entrepreneurs & the Power of Serving Others | Amy Mascali | Seeding Greatness Podcast

What if the life you're working so hard to build for everyone else is keeping you from building the one God put on your heart? Amy Mascali knows what it means to bet on herself. After years in sales, she grew tired of being the face of decisions she didn't believe in. In 2018, she made a bold move: she sold nearly everything she owned and chose to build a life around her own vision. That decision led to entrepreneurship, a business she eventually sold to her first driver, and a growing community of women entrepreneurs in Nashville. But Amy's story is about more than business. It's about integrity, faith, service, and what happens when we stop standing apart and start standing side by side. In this episode of The Seeding Greatness Podcast, I sit down with Amy to talk about the courage to pursue your own calling, the power of genuine relationships, and the kind of leadership that puts people first. IN THIS CONVERSATION - Why Amy chose to leave corporate America and pursue her own vision - The bold decision to sell almost everything and start over - How a practical problem became an entrepreneurial opportunity - Why Amy sold her business to the very first driver she hired - How networking can become a place for real relationships, not just sales - Why serving side by side can break down barriers and create a movement - The challenges women face when pursuing their dreams - What it means to lead with faith, humility, gratitude, and love One of the moments that stayed with me was Amy's vision of people working side by side—becoming partners, equals, and a “we.” It moved me because greatness isn't only about what we build. It's also about who we become and who we bring with us. Amy's reminder is simple: you can make other people's dreams come true, and you can make your own. YOUR TURN: What is one dream, calling, or idea you've been putting on the back burner? And where could you take one step toward it this week? Your Net Worth Doesn’t Determine Your Self-Worth | Suzanne Leydecker | Seeding Greatness Podcast

What if having more money doesn't solve your problems... it just reveals the ones you haven't healed? And what if the greatest freedom you could ever experience isn't financial freedom, but the freedom to stop taking everything personally? Yo! This conversation with Suzanne Leydecker on The Seeding Greatness Podcast went places I did NOT expect. Suzanne is an author, philanthropist, speaker, entrepreneur, and the woman behind A Woman on Top: My Journey of Self-Discovery Through Love and Money. She inherited significant wealth after losing her parents. And while that money gave her the ability to provide for herself and her children, it also exposed some painful lessons about relationships, guilt, generosity, boundaries, and self-worth. We're talking about a woman who had the financial resources to change her life but still had to do the spiritual and emotional work to truly enjoy it. And THAT is what makes this conversation so powerful. Because money can change your bank account without changing your beliefs. Success can give you options without giving you peace. And you can spend your whole life taking care of everybody else while slowly abandoning yourself. In this episode, we get into: - Why money often reveals what's already happening inside us - How inherited wealth changed Suzanne's relationships and sense of responsibility - Why generosity without boundaries can become destructive - Suzanne's three pillars: 1. not taking things personally, 2. taking personal responsibility, and 3. saying no when it's not a "hell yes" - The spiritual gym and how to recognize your emotional triggers - Why women are redefining their relationships with money, power, love, and independence - How to practice emotional self-care instead of waiting for a crisis - Why stewardship matters in money, leadership, relationships, and business - What it really means to become a woman on top of your own life One of my biggest takeaways? Money is a tool. It only makes you more of who you are.So the question isn't just whether you're building wealth. It's whether you're becoming the kind of person who can steward what you've been given without losing yourself in the process. This episode is for the woman learning to reclaim her worth, the leader struggling to set boundaries, the entrepreneur navigating money and relationships, and anybody who knows God has called them to more but doesn't want to sacrifice their peace getting there. High Performance & Coaching for Leaders Who Refuse to Settle | Seeding Greatness w/ Kristin Ericksen

High performance sounds good until it starts costing you your health, your focus, your relationships, or your alignment. That’s why this conversation with Kristin Ericksen matters. Kristin is a peak performance coach, entrepreneur, retreat leader, former elite gymnast, and one of the most intense, results-driven people I know. She was performing from a very young age, building a business around age five, competing nationally in gymnastics, and learning early that if you fall off the beam, you get back up and finish the routine. But this episode is not about grinding harder. It’s about what high performance actually requires when you’re a leader, coach, entrepreneur, or high achiever who refuses to settle. We talk about focus. Mastery. Accountability. Coaching. Rest. Discernment. Truth. Faith. And what it means to keep becoming the person capable of carrying the assignment in front of you. One of the biggest moments for me came when Kristin described competing on a four-inch balance beam in front of thousands of people. You fall. You’re hurt. You’re embarrassed. And the routine is still not over. You get back up. That became a larger conversation about why so many talented people never master their craft. The moment it gets hard, they quit. They stop practicing. They lose focus. They abandon the routine before the routine has had a chance to shape them. Then we went deeper. Kristin talked about working with Linda Hamilton and learning to see what was happening beneath the performance. That hit me because I know what it feels like for people to celebrate the gift while missing the person carrying it. In football, people loved watching me chase down running backs. What they couldn’t see was the limp, the opioid pills, and the pain underneath the performance. That led us into one of the biggest ideas in the episode: High performers don’t just need people who want more from their gift. They need people who can see the person. 6 Richest Moments 1. FINISH THE ROUTINE Kristin shares what gymnastics taught her about resilience, mastery, and why finishing matters even after you fall. 2. FOCUS LIKE YOU’RE ON A BALANCE BEAM We connect the balance beam to leadership, entrepreneurship, and the age of AI—where opportunity and distraction are both moving faster. 3. SEE THE PERSON BENEATH THE PERFORMANCE We talk about what high performers are carrying that nobody sees and why great coaches look beneath the gift. 4. STOP SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRITY Kristin says someone may be losing because you keep delaying the thing you know you’re called to do. I expand that into a bigger leadership question: what happens when our refusal to bring our best affects more than us? 5. TRUTH, COACHING & ACCOUNTABILITY Kristin asks clients, “May I coach you right now?” We wrestle with how to tell people what they need to hear without using truth as a weapon. 6. SOMETIMES HIGH PERFORMANCE LOOKS LIKE REST Kristin explains that before Linda could regain strength and mobility, she needed stability. Sometimes the move is not harder. Sometimes the move is rest. About Kristin Ericksen Kristin Ericksen is a peak performance coach, entrepreneur, TEDx and keynote speaker, and former elite gymnast. Protect Your Executive Edge | Joy St John | Seeding Greatness Podcast

What if the biggest risk to your performance isn't what's happening around you? What if it's what you're neglecting within you? That's one of the things I couldn't un-hear after this conversation with Joy St John. Joy spent more than 20 years working in risk, compliance and enterprise leadership, including major work with organizations like KPMG and HSBC. But what makes her story so powerful isn't just that she knows how to identify risk inside massive organizations. It's that she eventually realized the same principles she used to protect businesses had to be applied to her own life. After a serious car accident, years of health challenges and a season where she realized she had lost touch with who she was, Joy began rebuilding her life around purpose, health, faith and alignment. And now she's helping executives do the same thing. Because here's what I took away from this conversation: - Risk isn't just about compliance. - Risk is about understanding what happens when you make a decision. - And leadership isn't just about protecting the organization. - It's about protecting the person responsible for carrying the mission. THE SIX RICHEST MOMENTS 1. Risk is everywhere. And so is opportunity. Joy helped me see risk differently. It's not about becoming afraid to move. It's about understanding the consequences well enough to make an informed decision. I added one thing that I think matters just as much: opportunity is everywhere too. 2. Stop planning. Start executing. We talked about how leaders can plan, plan, plan and report, report, report until they get stuck. At some point you've got to execute. You learn through the process. You adjust. You grow. You elevate. 3. Count the cost before you build. Joy's EDGE framework immediately reminded me of Scripture: “Who builds a house unless they count the cost?” Before you design the plan, you've got to step back and evaluate what you're actually dealing with. 4. You don't know what you need until you need it. I shared something personal here. I was a high-level athlete, but I didn't have a system of self-care. It didn't seem important until I needed it. That's the problem with waiting for a crisis to build the system that could have protected you beforehand. 5. You can't separate the leader from the person. Joy and I both see this constantly. Your work affects your life. Your life affects your work. Your energy walks into the room before you say a word. You are your brand, and your brand is you. 6. If you lose your joy, you lose your edge. This is the line I can't un-hear. Joy's entire story brings this together. Risk management. Leadership. Health. Purpose. Faith. Self-care. They aren't separate conversations. They're all connected to whether you can continue bringing your best to what you've been called to do. ABOUT JOY ST JOHN Joy St John is a visionary leader and former KPMG Managing Director with more than 20 years of experience in enterprise risk, regulatory compliance and financial services. She has worked across complex public and private-sector environments, helping organizations understand risk, simplify complexity and make better decisions. After her own health scare and personal wake-up call, Joy began applying those same principles to purpose, self-care, leadership and everyday life. Today, she helps executives and teams reduce risk, simplify what feels "un-simplifiable" and bring more joy and alignment into the way they lead. Stop Hiding YOU | Donte Chavers | Seeding Greatness Podcast

How much of yourself have you learned to hide just to survive the rooms you’ve been in? Maybe you changed how you talked. How you dressed. What you listened to. How loud you laughed. What you believed. Or maybe you learned how to walk into a room and immediately calculate:How much of me is safe to show here? That’s what hit me during this conversation with Donte Chavers. On the surface, Donte’s story is about going from banking and federal service to acting, modeling, podcasting, and pursuing a completely different life. But that’s not really what this episode is about. This is about what happens when you STOP HIDING YOU. Donte grew up in Buffalo learning that being fully himself could make him a target. He was picked on for how he dressed, talked, and carried himself, and over time he learned that the safest way to move through the world was to become a shell of himself. He had a small circle where he could be fully Donte. Everywhere else, he became calculated, quiet, and careful. Then one day in high school, he watched other people simply be themselves and realized something: They weren’t more special than him. They had simply given themselves permission to be who they were. From that moment, he decided to stop playing small. Years later, that same journey of identity, faith, and courage would take him from Buffalo to Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York City, and Nashville—from federal banking into modeling, acting, and podcasting. But the deepest transformation wasn’t professional. It was spiritual. Donte said something in this conversation that stopped me:“I got a yes from my Creator. That’s the only yes I’ll ever need.” That hit me because yes changed my life too. For me, yes means surrender. Yes means decision. Yes means cutting off every other option until the only thing left on the table is your purpose, your calling, and your destiny. THE 6 RICHEST MOMENTS FROM THIS EPISODE 1. WHEN HIDING BECOMES SURVIVAL Donte shares how being different made him a target growing up and how he learned to shrink, blend in, and only show certain parts of himself where it felt safe. 2. STOP PLAYING SMALL One classroom moment changed the trajectory of his life. He realized other people weren’t more confident because they were better. They were simply willing to be themselves. 3. THE PEOPLE WHO SAID YES TO YOU Donte kept naming the people who helped open doors in his journey. It became a reminder that nobody becomes who they are alone. Sometimes someone else’s yes helps unlock your next chapter. 4. THE ONLY YES YOU NEED When Donte said, “I got a yes from my Creator,” the whole conversation shifted. Because once your identity is settled with God, outside approval loses its power to determine who you are. 5. FROM ACHIEVEMENT TO EMBODIMENT I asked Donte directly if he still felt like he was holding back. His answer wasn’t about career success. It was about finally feeling unapologetically like himself. 6. SOMETIMES IT’S YOUR TIME, BUT NOT YOUR TURN Near the end, I told Donte that calling still has seasons. You can know what you carry, know where you’re going, and still be in a season of preparation. Like David, sometimes it’s your time, but it’s not your turn. Let's connect Connect with Darryll: darryllstinson.com Connect with Donte on Instagram: @dontechavers Donte's Podcast: The New Standard Podcast After you watch, answer this: What part of YOU are you still hiding because you’re afraid of how people will receive you? The 4 Levels of Money: From Tithing to Dominion | Seeding Greatness Podcast with Tony Bradshaw

What if the biggest limitation to your finances isn’t your income, but the mindset by which you approach it? Most people spend their lives learning how to survive. They learn how to budget, crunch numbers, get out of debt, and make wise financial decisions and those things matter. But few ever learn how to steward money with purpose… and even fewer step into dominion. In this episode of the Seeding Greatness Podcast, Darryll Stinson sits down with entrepreneur, author, former Ramsey Solutions executive, and business strategist Tony Bradshaw for a deep conversation on money, faith, leadership, purpose, and the future of wealth. Tony helped build Dave Ramsey’s organization from 33 employees and approximately $3 million in annual revenue to more than 550 employees and $125 million, serving in executive leadership roles that helped shape one of the most influential personal finance companies in America. After spending more than fifteen years helping millions of people escape debt and build financial discipline, Tony found himself on a different journey — one where God began revealing that financial freedom was only the beginning. Together, we explore what happens after scarcity. What does it look like to move into abundance? What does it mean to give your money purpose? And what does true financial dominion actually look like? This conversation stretches far beyond budgeting and investing. We explore identity, stewardship, leadership development, entrepreneurship, education, legacy, generosity, and the calling God places on our lives. Whether you’re a founder, executive, investor, educator, parent, ministry leader, or someone simply trying to steward what God has entrusted to you, this episode will challenge how you think about money, wealth, and why both exist in the first place. In this episode, we explore: 1. The Four Levels of Money: From Tithing to Dominion Tony introduces a framework that completely reframes how we think about wealth. We unpack why most people stop at financial discipline, while very few discover purpose, and even fewer ever step into dominion. 2. What it was really like helping build Dave Ramsey Tony shares what he learned during fifteen years inside Ramsey Solutions, including how Dave built culture, developed leaders, scaled teams, and grew one of America’s most influential financial education companies. 3. Why financial literacy is failing the next generation Should financial education begin in kindergarten? Tony makes a compelling case for why schools should teach entrepreneurship, investing, stewardship, and wealth creation long before students enter adulthood. 4. Why generosity transforms the heart Tony shares how God continually stretched his faith through generosity, teaching him that stewardship begins when money no longer controls you. 5. Leadership, identity, and lifelong growth We discuss imposter syndrome, developing leaders, continuous learning, and why the greatest investment you’ll ever make is in becoming the person your calling requires. 6. The future of money, AI, entrepreneurship, and wealth Tony shares his perspective on cryptocurrency, AI, digital currencies, investing, and how leaders can prepare for the next decade of opportunity and disruption.
