All shades of Iberibe by Kasimma + Lamothe Parrot Red Wine | Wine & Books Podcast

In this episode of the Wine & Books Podcast, we’re pairing All Shades of Iberibe by Kasimma with a glass of Lamothe Parrot Red Wine, a light, fruity, easygoing red that I personally prefer cold. If you’ve ever asked me to recommend a funny fiction book, there’s a very high chance I’ve recommended All Shades of Iberibe. This book genuinely made me laugh. The first time I read it, I was laughing in public, and honestly, I blame Kasimma for that. All Shades of Iberibe is a collection of 14 short stories exploring family, culture, relationships, death, war, religion, and the wonderfully chaotic things people do, often with a lot of humor and wit. We talk about the meaning of “Iberibe,” why I love seeing Igbo woven naturally into fiction, and why some things simply lose their meaning when translated into English. For this episode, we take a closer look at “Jesus Yard,” where we meet Aunty Nkiru and Chinelo and get thrown into the drama. We talk about the characters, the humor, the domestic conflicts, and the moments that reminded me of Fuji House of Commotion. We also discuss the book’s exploration of reincarnation and the Biafran War, including stories from people who died during the conflict. Finally, we put the book through our reread test: Would I pick it up again? Listen to find out whether All Shades of Iberibe gets the “Read It Again” stamp.  And of course, if you’re currently reading a book, we want to hear from you! You can send us your review through the form on our website. We accept written reviews and voice notes, so tell us what you’re reading and what you think about it. Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng + Moscato D’Asti | Wine & Books Podcast

In this episode of the Wine & Books podcast, we discuss Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, paired with a glass of Conti Buneis Moscato D’Asti, a sweet, lightly sparkling wine that feels soft and inviting, with a gentle, crisp finish… just like this story. Set in 1970s America, this novel begins with the haunting line, “Lydia Lee is dead.” But beyond the mystery, it unravels the quiet tensions within the Lee family, exploring identity, parental expectations, race, and the emotional weight of trying to become who others want you to be. In this episode, we unpack key themes like generational trauma, ambition vs. sacrifice, motherhood, and the impact of silence in families. We ask the big questions: Were James and Marilyn good parents? What does it mean to “put your foot down” in relationships? And how much of ourselves do we lose when we live for others? From Lydia’s quiet struggles to the overlooked presence of Hannah, we explore the cracks in the Lee family and the lasting effects of their choices. We also touch on misogyny, cultural identity, and the pressures that come with being “the chosen one.” If you enjoy deep, thought-provoking conversations about family, identity, and the complexities of human relationships, this episode is definitely for you. Better Never Than Late by Chika Unigwe + Sweet Lips Wine | Wine and Books Podcast

In this episode of the Wine and Books podcast, we discuss Better Never Than Late by the amazing Chika Unigwe, paired with a glass of sweet, fruity Sweet Lips red wine 🍷. This powerful short story collection explores the realities of migration through the lives of Nigerian immigrants in Belgium, people who leave behind careers, identities, and stability in search of “greener pastures,” only to face harsh truths, cultural barriers, and the struggle to rebuild from scratch. In this episode, we unpack key themes like migration vs. reality, grief, identity loss, and the complexities of love, sacrifice, and power in relationships. From stories of women finding their voices and reclaiming control to deeply emotional moments like Oge’s grief and Prosperous’ journey to rediscover herself, we explore both the pain and resilience woven through the book. We also touch on difficult topics like exploitation, cultural differences, religious extremism, and the emotional cost of starting over, while asking important questions about love, loyalty, and self-worth. If you enjoy thought-provoking conversations about books, life, and everything in between, this episode is definitely for you.
