The Love Hypothesis: Victoria Reads the Book for the First Time + Our Review of the Movie Adaptation!

Welcome to Feed The Fangirl! We’re Ella and Victoria - longtime friends, pop culture obsessives and eternal fangirls. Whether it’s TV, movies, music, books or celebrity - we talk about all the things on our pop culture menu. Food for thought - it feeds the inner fangirl! In today’s episode we discuss The Love Hypothesis, a movie from Amazon Prime, based on the popular BookTok book and STEM romance by Ali Hazelwood. But before we watched the movie, we of course wanted to do our due diligence and read the source material. So Victoria shares her thoughts after reading the book for the very first time and Ella reflects on her experience of re-reading it! We have some thoughts to share on the way Ali Hazelwood writes smut. Then we share our thoughts on the movie adaptation and discuss why we thought some of the changes to the timeline made sense for the story and how it brought back the ‘com’ in ‘rom-com’. We also explore whether the film captured the nuances of Olive and Adam’s romance and Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman’s chemistry. Of course we also discuss the famous Chapter 16 scene and how the smut was translated on screen!  In todays episode we referenced: Netflix Lands Ali Hazelwood’s Hot New Adult Romance Novel ‘Deep End’; Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps, Alex Cooper’s Unwell Productions Producing Feature Adaptation from Deadline. Whether it’s TV, movies, music, books or celebrity - we talk about all the things on our pop culture menu. Food for thought - it feeds the inner fangirl! We also chat about how debut comedies can feel stunted in their growth and are often not given the chance to find their footing due to early cancellation. Plus, we discuss the interesting choice Adults made to create a new pilot episode in an attempt to find a new audience. (Also we need to talk about the flight that emergency landed in Albuquerque! We kinda wish we were there.)
