Five strongly opinionated friends dive into fantasy and sci-fi novels in a weekly book club where we chat about last week's reading, typically 100-200 page chunks. This is a spoiler filled read-along style podcast. Each episode jumps directly into plot reactions, character analysis, likes/dislikes, and predictions. What started as a fun way to socialize in 2021 has blossomed into a dedicated book club, covering everything from speculating on character romances to debating whether a battle sequence deserved its page count.     This Inevitable Ruin: Ch 18 - 37

    Book club discusses chapters 18 - 37 of the seventh Dungeon Crawler Carl book, This Inevitable Ruin by Matt Dinniman. We only have two members in attendance today and both happen to not enjoy reading about war planning and strategy discussions, so there may be some disappointment shared regarding this reading segment. However - there is redemption within the last 3 or so chapters when all hell breaks loose and we get the AI back as a physical being. We question if there is love the AI feels disguised as obsession; why the AI plays a high-stakes game of blowing up the world as a mind game with Carl; will the AI expansion be truly endless; and the desire to see the AI screw over the entire universe's political system - even if it ends up destroying everything. Oh - and we do mess up quite spectacularly in our understanding for the difference between the orc and the snake alien faction teams... Very minor spoiler for the second Hunger Games book. Full spoilers for DCC though the end of Chapter 37 in This Inevitable Ruin.

    This Inevitable Ruin: Ch 1 - Ch 17

    Bookclub begins the first quarter of the seventh book in Dungeon Crawler Carl, this Inevitable Ruin by Matt Dinniman. Bookclub gets annoyed at the changing POVs with prior cookbook authors, is confused as to the reality behind Louis and Juice Box's wedding, takes final guesses as to what Kiwi and Mongo's offspring will be, attempts to untangle the logistics behind the shared dream/memory Carl and Katia have, and of course makes predictions which include one long shot 'if that were to happen that'd be crazy you called it' theory. Spoilers for all of DCC through the end of Chapter 17 in DCC.

    The Eye of the Bedlam Bride Ch 54 - End

    Book club discusses the highly anticipated Dinnamin-tsunami of a conclusion to the sixth Dungeon Crawler Carl book, The Eye of the Bedlam Bride - 75% to the conclusion ( 54 - end). We learn more about primals (or do we just confuse ourselves more?), one long-shot prediction was proven true, and there are two deaths with very different reader reactions to each. *Spoilers for all of DCC books 1-6.

    Book club discusses 50-76% of the sixth Dungeon Crawler Carl book, chapters 34-53. Is book club part of team Odette? Could we get any more mad at Bea's past behavior that was revealed regarding her relationship with Carl? And an unhinged prediction is made regarding the slugs (or is it unhinged?). Spoilers for all of DCC up through the end of Ch 53 in The Eye of the Bedlam Bride.

    The Eye of the Bedlam Bride: Ch 1 - 16

    Book Club discusses the sixth Dungeon Crawler Carl book by Matt Dinniman. Yugio? Pokemon? Magic the Gathering? It's DCC deck building and book club is not totally sold on the new mechanics at play, but flagging fellow crawlers does open some fun contemplations about morality. Some highlights include: speculating about Samantha (getting eaten whole yet again, her role in the 12th floor, and if she'll ever get a body) and staking bets on what the baby Mongos will be (baby dinos, baby bears, pets, or full-blown NPCs). *Spoilers for the full set of DCC books up through the end of Ch 16 in the Bedlam Bride*

    The Butcher's Masquerade: Ch. 56 - End

    Book club discusses and debates the end (chapters 56-end) of the fifth Dungeon Crawler Carl book, The Butcher's Masquerade, by Matt Dinniman. Did we get excited and start with the epilogue? Possibly. Don't worry, we still talk through the full theories on who Lucia Mar really is (or should we say 'who is in'?). Will Chris ever get more of a moment? Did we care about the unaliving of fellow crawlers at the end of this book? Does Donut truly understand geography? *Spoilers for the full DCC series up to the end of The Butcher's Masquerade*

    Book club discusses and debates Part 3 (chapters 26-55) of the fifth Dungeon Crawler Carl book, The Butcher's Masquerade, by Matt Dinniman. Did we shed any tears for the loss of the vampire? There may be some AI fan-clubbing as it gets more extreme with its repercussions for not following the spirit of the dungeon. Finishing with out predictions for what will actually happen in the Masquerade at the end of this book. *Spoilers for the full DCC series up to the end of Part 3 in The Butcher's Masquerade*
