An introduction

Hi, welcome! This Is the what are you reading? podcast by me, Samira El Omari. As a writer and curious person I often wonder what people are reading. For instance when I was on a solo walking trip in Portugal. I arrived tiredly in a gorgeous and crowded barista place, and as I looked around I wondered what that one person sitting by themselves was reading. And why did they choose to spend their time with this book on a Sunday afternoon. I look at the readers of this time with a sense of wonder and excitement and if I dig deeper I think this is to do with hope. Isn't wanting to relate to what writers think and feel, wanting to read about ideas a sign of hope? A way to relate to yourself in a world overflowing with distraction? I intend for these interviews to be at least as much about the reader as the book they're reading and any book whether it's fiction, non fiction, poetry or none of these will be worth a conversation on this podcast. One of the first persons I've interviewed, Tinca Leahw, asked why I was doing these interviews and it might be interesting to share the response I gave. Here goes..
