Clear the Clutter ~ Making Room for Him

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! We are excited to have you with us today as we encourage one another in the hope we have in Jesus. Today, our “Cleaning House” series continues! Grab your Bible and notebook and jot down anything that God may reveal to you today as we tackle the big topic of clutter! For most of us, clearing out the piles of unused or unneeded things is easier said than done. We can become attached to our “stuff,” and it is hard to let go sometimes. The longer we wait, the higher the pile becomes and the harder it is to get motivated to deal with it. It isn’t a bad thing to keep some items. But when it overflows from our cabinets and storage rooms, it can put our minds into overdrive, causing our senses to focus on what may not be most important. So if you are feeling the weight of “stuff” or “things” that are holding you down, whether it is piles of paper, dishes, collections, decorations, kids’ toys, clothing, or something else, turn to scripture with us to see what God has to say about these things. God has supplied believers with everything required to live a faithful, holy life through a personal relationship with Jesus. Thinking about our spiritual houses — do you have piles of clutter in your mind? Are you clinging to spiraling thoughts, replaying memories, or refusing to let go of things in your heart? King David often asked God to create in him a clean heart and a right spirit. Do we ask God for those things? Often, the cleaner our hearts, the more right our spirits are, the more peace and fulfillment we experience. We have more room to welcome God into the spaces of our lives. It’s the same in the physical spaces of our homes. Friends, we can’t take possessions with us into eternity. Sacrificing temporary, earthly things is a wise choice if it gains eternal, spiritual rewards, such as salvation, a relationship with God, and lasting heavenly rewards. Those things can never be taken from us. Let’s kick some clutter to the curb and make room for Jesus! Rest, Refuel, Repeat

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! Our series, called “Cleaning House,” continues! Today, we’re talking about slowing down and taking care of ourselves. We can’t keep going and doing and giving and serving without taking time to rest, refresh, and refill. Self-care has been a hot topic. Truly, we can’t care for others well if we fail to care for ourselves. Self-care nourishes our physical, emotional, and mental health. The ways we care for ourselves look different for each of us. Most applications will include some equation of rest, nutrition, hydration, exercise, medical appointments, connecting with others, community activities, hobbies, and more. Some may argue that self-care is selfish or self-serving. But tending to our health is scriptural. God promotes and encourages our healthy choices. Our physical bodies are carriers of God’s presence. We are extensions of God’s love, compassion, and action on the earth—His hands and feet! We are His instruments and need to be ready for His use. So we must care well for our physical bodies, so that we will be prepared and able to do what He has purposed for us. We are called to glorify God in our bodies. Self-care requires disciplined choices and deliberate living. Our bodies are for the Lord. This week, we encourage you to spend some time in the Bible and in prayer, and ask God to show you what adjustments you may need to make to support good mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health for you. Reigning in the Right Attitude

Hey, Friends! Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! We continue our series, “Cleaning House.” Looking much deeper than keeping up with all of our household chores or errands, we want to keep our spiritual houses in order, as well. In today’s episode, let’s take a quick diagnostic check of our attitudes. Spotting other people’s negative attitudes can be easier than recognizing our own. Does anyone need help with an attitude adjustment? Our attitude is the mental posture we adopt toward whatever is happening in our lives. Often, we can allow negativity, unhealthy opinions, or un-Christlike viewpoints to seep into our minds. When this happens, our attitudes quickly move to a downward spiral. Improving our attitude changes how we interact with others, which often leads to stronger connections. A positive or resilient attitude helps us notice opportunities, learn lessons, and discover solutions. Our attitudes determine what our mouths speak, our faces reveal, and the actions we take. Jesus is our perfect example. Through Him, we can have a more joyful mental posture. Paul urges us to have the same attitude, outlook, and point of view as our precious Savior. We can adjust our mindset to reflect the attitude of Christ. When we come to Him, willing to receive instruction, God will reveal the places in our lives that might need a new frame of mind. Let your outward demeanor shine brighter for Christ. Pray for the ability to look at others as Jesus did—through His Father’s eyes. Our closing prayer for you comes from Psalm 19:14: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Hope in Hard Times

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! Our series, called “Cleaning House,” continues! Today, we’re talking about “Hidden Costs.” When we think about our homes, we might imagine those deferred maintenance projects, or starting a home improvement project, only to discover something else that needs repair that we didn’t plan for or anticipate at all. Some people allocate a portion of funds monthly for these types of projects. Others may invest in a home warranty. Some have no plan or preparation in place for these hidden costs. And without saving or preparing, panic erupts when these big-ticket items go out. When we think about our spiritual journeys, what happens when we come up against big things that may rattle our faith? Have we prepared for the tests we may face in the future? Do we have a plan in place to build ourselves up and strengthen ourselves now, so we aren’t tossed about in the chaos of the struggles then? Or are we already depleted before those trials even present themselves? In this episode, we’re going to do a bit of preparing today to buffer up against those hidden costs that may tax our faith in the future! Whether saving for those hidden costs in deferred maintenance projects or in our faith journey, let’s commit to being proactive instead of reactive. Deposit a little each month in a savings plan—finances and scriptures. Hold Fast to Hope! Heavenly Minded ~ Evicting the Enemy

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! We are so grateful you have paused to spend some time with us today! We welcome you to this episode as we encourage one another in the hope we have in Jesus. We continue a new series this week called “Cleaning House.” Through this series, we are looking much deeper than household chores, errands, or keeping a nice yard. As Christ followers, the most important tidy up starts inside of us. This week we are asking, “What are you thinking about today?” We might have a different answer to this question every two minutes. With all the things we keep track of, follow through on, schedule, or reschedule, our minds can become a jumbled mess. Even if you are an organized, detailed person, keep your calendar all color coded, you may still experience days you have difficulty remembering everything, with all you have swirling in your head. Let’s examine our thoughts, what we dwell on, where our thoughts go, and why it so very important to be aware of the things that drive the way we think. Colossians 3:2 says: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on Earth. How are you guarding what you allow into your mind? Or are you guarding at all? Are you careful about the information you view or study? Have you set boundaries around the activities you take part in? Eventually, our actions, attitudes, and character will reveal what our thoughts are dwelling upon. Let’s search the scriptures together and find some instruction to help us clean up our thinking and put the enemy on notice. He doesn’t get to manipulate your thoughts anymore. Our prayer for you is that your mind may be filled with beautiful, honorable, life-giving thoughts and that as you set your mind upon the Lord, He will keep you in perfect peace. Progress Over Perfection

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast, where we encourage one another in the Hope we have in Jesus. We began a new series last week called “Cleaning House.” Through this series, we are looking much deeper than household chores, errands, or keeping a nice yard. As Christ followers, the most important tidy up starts inside of us. What does our spiritual house need? What steps are we taking to have organized, healthy minds, bodies, souls, attitudes, or finances? Today, we’re talking about implementing systems and processes to help us work on the big projects—whether that be in our homes or in our hearts—one bite at a time. The big picture of ALL the things is too much for us to successfully apply our attention and effort. Defeat really does lurk at the door of our multiple unrealistic and self-inflicted expectations. When we minimize the focus and identify the smallest of tasks, we realize little intermediate successes. Then, those minor accomplishments fuel our engagement and commitment to the goal and when stacked one upon another, they eventually propel us into mastery! The important thing is that we START, and then focus on one thing at a time! As we commit ourselves to the process—whether in our physical homes or our spiritual houses—we will succeed in the goal, whatever that may be for each of us individually. And as we faithfully accomplish the little things, more will be given or added to us. Bonus: We don’t have to do all of this in our own strength! We would surely fail on our own. But we can look to and rely upon God. It is His strength, His plan, and His purpose in us! Let’s trust Him in the process as we press on, one step at a time. Let’s keeping our eyes on Jesus, believing He has made the way for us as we tackle the to-do list one bite at a time. Clean House, Open Heart

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries podcast! We love spending time with you as we encourage one another in the hope we have in Jesus. Today, we begin a new series called “Cleaning House.” Our homes require a lot of work! We do the chores so that we have not just a clean space but also a calmer, more comfortable place to live. Do you have a favorite or least favorite chore? If your “to-do” or “hope to do list” is a mile long and you are placing unrealistic expectations for yourself to complete everything in a day, maybe it’s time to do a little tidy up on the way you approach your full plate. We all have areas in our homes and lives that stay cleaner than others. Although it is fulfilling to have a tidy house and a completed to-do list—these aren’t all we desire. As Christ followers, the most important clean up starts inside of us—in our hearts. God transforms us from the inside out. We can consume ourselves with getting all the things done and forget to feed our souls, allowing God space to help us, lead us, and really refresh us. Why do we choose the harder way? It’s easy to talk about our physical homes and all the ways we can make is better, more inviting, or comfortable. But if we are connected to Jesus and following Him, we also have a spiritual house. Our bodies are the dwelling place of His Holy Spirit. Do we spend time tending to the needs we have for Jesus? Our renewal, restoration, and refreshment only come as we spend time with Him. Join us as we walk through this series and explore the steps we can take to have organized, healthy minds, bodies, souls, attitudes, and finances, while we seek and serve Christ. This series is not to overwhelm you with MORE to do, but is actually the opposite. God knows our deepest desires, and He wants our desires to align with His. Together, let’s discover ways to be strengthened so that everyday chores, commitments, and schedules will be easier, smoother, and with more peace. Let’s create a space for Jesus in our lives! Leveling Up

Welcome to the My Sister and Me Ministries Podcast! Today is our last episode of our series called “Games People Play.” Living life is not a game—but sometimes it can feel like one. Pressures, ups, downs, and very real obstacles wait for us around every turn. Lessons learned by games we’ve played can help us as we navigate our own spiritual lives. Our “end game” or “game over” as a believer is to spend eternity with our Savior. In Ephesians 2:8-9, Paul reminds us that it is by faith that we are saved. And Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the word of Christ. Jesus has provided us with new life in Him through faith. So it’s more like “game continued” instead of “game over!” In this episode, instead of the rules of a game, we explore seven key objectives for what a LIFE of faith in Jesus looks like. The ultimate objective is that we seek Him, follow Him, love Him, and stand firmly upon Him, for He is our Rock and our Redeemer. Thank you for listening, for leaving a comment, and for encouraging us and others in this community. Above all, thanks for growing in faith with us! We invite you to join us next week as we jump into our new series: “Cleaning House!” As always, hold fast to Hope!
