The debrief starts the next morning.In the final episode of Behind the Games, Jennifer Reoch is joined by James Bulley of Trivandi and Phil Batty of Glasgow 2026, recorded the day after the closing ceremony. It is a debrief rather than a victory lap. They talk about the command centre that dealt with problems before anyone in the stands noticed, what an embedded delivery model changes when decisions have to be made at pace, and why coming on board at 400 days to go was tight enough to be worth changing next time.

    Para sport, access and the athlete experience, with Melanie Woods

    Glasgow 2026 has the largest integrated Para sport programme in Commonwealth Games history: 47 medal events, the same venues and the same schedule as every other athlete. Melanie Woods will be racing in it. In episode five of Behind the Games, Jennifer Reoch is joined by the two-time Paralympian and double World Para Athletics Championships medallist to talk about what integration actually means once you get past the word. Melanie made her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham in 2022 and comes to Glasgow to race the 400m and the 1500m at Scotstoun, a track ten minutes from where she trains. She talks about the 2018 cycling accident that changed her life, walking into a local club as a complete beginner, and the six-day training weeks that got her from there to the start line. She is also clear that the athlete experience is decided long before that start line. The surface between the warm-up area and the call room. Whether the accessible toilets are close enough to be worth using. The half hour in the call room that nobody watching ever sees. Her advice to anyone planning a venue is simple: consult people with disabilities, because a room full of knowledgeable people who do not have one will not always see where the barriers are.
